Good watch. Saw the second half live at the time but good to see Jimmy Robson's goal again as it always seems to be Connelly's that's highlighted.

Amazing find. Just started watching it, trying to pick out the players - Pointer's an easy one, Connelly is with his gait, and I've just seen Elder thump it upfield.

Just watched it all the way through. It brought back some wonderful memories of the team I watched throughout the late fifties and sixties. What joy to watch those great players in action again. Thanks for posting on the forum.

Still not bothered about watching highlights of a match where we've got beat.

But we won over the two legs. That Reims side included the likes of Piantoni, Juste Fontaine, Vincent and not to mention,Raymond Kopa in their forward line alone. An astonishing effort from us considering the intimidation we were subjected to in that 2nd leg.

Remember travelling through Reims as a kid. Stopped off on a coach. And being reminded this was the place we played a great team in our heyday and beat them. Wish i could see such days. Maybe we will next year?

Them were the days, both teams in Grey & Grey!

What a narrow looking pitch, seemed hardly any space between the box and the touchline.

That was the team in the first three European Cup ties but Gordon Harris came in for Brian Pilkington for the second leg in Hamburg because Pilky had been sold to Bolton.

Talking of Kopa, (who died last year) wasn't it Pilkington who marked him out of the
game? But I can't remember which leg, or even if both played in both legs.

I do remember glowing praise for Pilky, because Kopa was probably not far
off being considered the Messi of his era. A wonderful player.

Raymond Kopa played on the Turf but not in France and Juste Fontaine played in just the second leg in Paris.

Think Walter Joyce was often used as a 'man marker' in that era. Nice little cameo from Mc late in the game, socks down, taking the ball to the corner. 5 yard burst of pace, drop of his shoulder all leaving the defender kicking at thin air.

Walter only came into the side that season in effect for the departed Bobby Seith - not a bad way to start your first team career, straight into a European Cup team.

Not quite correct.
We played the team who are called Stade de Reims, but the game was actually played at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

It may well have been Walter Joyce who was the one marking Kopa, Silky, on reading that.

I was 15 and gullible. That's how I ended up on a coach with my geography for what seemed like 3 months through france! :?

Actually, I only stumbled on this fact quite recently. I am just slightly too young to remember the game Reims v Burnley, and had always assumed that it was played in Reims. ( I knew - of course that the Parc des Princes was in Paris, but just assumed that the Reims Stadium shared the same name, - like St James Park [Exeter]).
I've been to watch a game at the Stade de Reims, though it's now a new stadium anyway. (Excellent design).
