The thread title is missing a question mark.
Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Give Ben whatever he wants, within reason and assuming he does want to stay of course.
He’d be the biggest single loss to us after Dyche.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
I run a business and have to pay over the odds to get average emplyees compared to my existing staff. Because of this wevhave stopped employing average tradesmen and are training our own. If a good one came along he wouldnt come in and be paid more than my top lads who have worked hard and been loyal to the company.
Ben Mee should not have to go cap in hand for big bucks, they should make sure he is not paid less than all the new signings. Of course he may just want a new challenge but I doubt it personally.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Of all our players I think Ben is the one I would least like to see leave (and I like them all).
I think he has been hurt seeing Michael Keane and then Tarky called up by Southgate. I'm not saying Ben deserves to be called up or not. He's also seen Tom and Jack play for England. It's hard on the lad.
Unless he asks for ridiculous money I hope the Board will reward him. He wears the captain's armband with pride.

It's not a coincidence that Keane and Tarks received recognition while playing alongside him. Not a coincidence that Keane playing alongside Williams has lost his way. Think there me be something to these rumours. Been Mee is obviously the glue that holds our defence together. Think he'll extend with us but not surprised his name is being mentioned.

Deserves to be one of, if not our top, earner.
Hopefully just an agent squeezing the club for a bit more money and he'll sign eventually.
He's been an integral part of Dyche's team and he's got a good few years left. He endears himself massively to the fans with his committed style and leadership ability. Can't believe any Burnley fan would be happy to see him leave, regardless of fee.

He's flown under the radar for too long and I think teams are starting to notice him a bit more.
There's one recurring consistency in our defence and thats him, it would be an absolute travesty to lose him.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
No nonsense defender is Mee, really come on under Dyche and since being moved to his best position. Full back really highlighted that he struggles in possession.
He is brave, great in the air and we've seen that playing alongside him brings the best out of his partner. I always saw him staying with us as long as Dyche does (hopefully a long time).

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
It makes me laugh to read that he struggles in possession.
He's comfortable on the ball, calm under pressure, can see a pass and usually executes it well too.
His reading of the game, positional play and bravery are exceptional.
The only thing he lacks is genuine pace.

I'm a big fan of Mee but his passing is laughable at times. Fair to suggest the England manager thinks so too given he's said what kind of defenders he wants and keeps overlooking Mee despite his many qualities.Willy wrote:It makes me laugh to read that he struggles in possession.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
In my opinion Ben Mee should be one of the top earners at the club. He is our stand in captain of the season and the glue of our defence.

I’d have Mee as Captain and hope that he’s here for the remainder of his career. Mee and Burnley go together like fish and chips.
I don’t think it’d be good for either Mee or Burnley if he were to move on.

Ben's a legend and he makes the defenders alongside him look good. I can't imagine many Premier League coaches haven't worked out who is the most important member of our defence.
Defenders who can pick a pass are becoming ten a penny, but Ben is a rarer breed.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a four year deal with us and get an England call-up in Autumn. I hope I'm right.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Don't know if there's any truth in the article, but the bit about Burnley chasing £20m must be pure fiction. If the rest was true, Burnley wouldn't have set a fee at this stage.
So I'm going to assume that as part of the story is fiction, then the whole of it is probably fiction too. Makes no difference to the eventual outcome, and it makes me happier!

Not sure the links to Spurs and Arsenal ring true - I doubt he's refined enough as a defender for either. That makes me think (and hope) its a bit of posturing, possibly not unlike the Barnes story in the window.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
The Times, today: Ben Mee stalling on new deal at Burnley
Ben Mee’s future at Burnley is looking increasingly uncertain, with Sean Dyche indicating that the defender is continuing to stall over a new contract.
Mee has just over a year to run on his present deal and if he does not agree an extension by the summer, the club will consider selling him.
The centre back has been an important figure in Burnley’s rise this season, standing in as captain while Tom Heaton, the goalkeeper, has been recovering from shoulder surgery.
Dyche, the manager of a Burnley team who visit West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League today, is relaxed about Mee’s situation, having sold key players before without it affecting the club’s progress. Michael Keane left for Everton for an initial £25 million last July, followed a month later by Andre Gray, who joined Watford for £18 million. Burnley are not under pressure to sell, having announced a £22.2 million profit in their latest accounts.
“I’m not concerned,” Dyche said. “We’ve had it before. ”

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
I'm sure there's some truth in it but will be wildly exaggerated by the press. He's probably in the middle of negotiating a new contract.
Mee is my favourite player but if he puts money before the club then so be it. He can go with my best wishes. I'm confident SD can replace him.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
What Sean said is bob on. In our system, no player is irreplaceable. Mee has been a hugely important component of the defensive unit...perhaps the most important...but I think we could buy someone to fulfil the same role for less than we would get for him. I suspect the fans of any top six club would be hugely underwhelmed, because it is very unlikely that Ben would fit into their styles of play.
Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Wasn't Sean assessing Charlie Taylor as a CB as well as using him at LB?
Also Kevin Long has not let us down when he has played has he?
Interesting if Ben were to go to Spurs, renewing his relationship with Tripps, but we had better get more than £3million for him

Question is, is Mee good enough for Spurs when he'd be competing with Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen who are far better defenders?

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Everton wouldn't be a poor shout; sign Ben Mee and start getting good value out of Michael Keane at the same time.
Ben has served the Clarets very well - and I'd be very pleased if he extends his stay - but, it's what Burnley does, turn undervalued players into great players and move them up to the next level. Maybe Ben thinks he needs a move to get his England cap? Maybe he knows what his ex-team mates are earning elsewhere and knows there's no reason why he can't also earn beyond Burnley's "team framework salary cap."
Even though the accounts to 30-Jun-2017 tell us that wages (incl social security) cost £61 million for season 2016/17 - and is probably closer to £80 million (my estimate, no personal insights) this season, I'm sure Ben could bank a significant step up at a club with deeper financial foundations.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Spurs signed Davidson Sanchez for £25m plus.
Eric Dier can play there aswell.
They have done fine without Alderweireld this season. As much as I love Ben Mee I think a team like Spurs who are looking to keep their manager and the likes of Harry Kane at the club will be looking to sign a world class centre back in the £40m plus type category. Ben Mee would be a step backwards for a club like Spurs. Tarks does actually fit their style of play better.

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
Been a great player for the club.
But, given where we are at now with Europa League to look forward to next season, if he feels he can do better elsewhere then let it be
There must be some creedence in this story as we have been offering a new contract for some months now (as we did with Tarks) so he would appear not that keen to sign on the dotted line
We have not done badly since losing Keane and that could easily be said of Mee next season
Sad to see him go if that is the case but, we can't afford to give anyone too much time on the basis that pre season is going to be starting earlier next season and I would hope most of our summer business is therefore done very quickly after this season finishes

Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
If he won't sign a new contract and someone comes in with 35 million we would be mad to turn it down. Ben is a good player, although prone to throw one in occasionally, if he did this at Spurs the crowd would soon be on his back.
Spurs would obviously be a good move for him financially but not for his football
Spurs would obviously be a good move for him financially but not for his football
Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
A bit of cat and mouse in my opinion. By stalling on a new contract (Agent) it lets other clubs know the players position, with a view to a bid, in that interim period the player has the option to sign a new deal, see his contract out or move if the bid is agreeable to all parties. The Club (Dyche) is not stupid and he'll know if and when we should consider selling him. The Club is far bigger than any player. I hope he signs a new deal but if not we move on.
Re: ARTICLE: Money for Mee
If this is true and Ben does move on, I am comfortable that we have the right manager to rule over a possible replacement at the CB position over any other manager out there.
