If this is true I think Ben may be looking at it all pragmatically thinking he has reached the peak in regards to the level he could play at in his career. If there was ever a time he would play for England it would be now. Therefore since he has now already reached his 'peak' he may aswell make as much money as he can with the time he has left.

If he does not sign then I would be completely fine with selling him.

Why would anyone want to sell Ben Mee?......The very embodiment of BFC.

I'm sure that the club and Dyche would wish to keep Mee.
Whether they feel he's worth offering another 10k or so a week is another matter.
It might not be money.
Bit if it is then there's probably a few clubs who might fancy him and be willing to
pay him more than we could.

Because we can't make him sign a contract.

As romantic as having favourite players is, we are still a business and players are assets.

Off to Everton to show Keane where to play?

Let's hope not.

Must be honest I was surprised to see this although nothing in football should. Ben will know his worth after seeing his partner move last summer and I can imagine big six clubs being interested in him as they will in a few of our players. That said the grass isn't always greener and I still feel Dyche will be very instrumental in encouraging him to sign a new deal. For me, Ben has his best years in front of him and I hope there with us.

Opening shots by his agent for more money at a guess.

But if he wants to move, then we sell him and no hard feelings on either side as he's been great for us.

Big loss though, there is no doubt about that.

I’d give Ben Mee whatever he wanted(within reason, of course). He’s a cornerstone of who we are and how we play.

Personally I think Burnley have brought the best out of Ben and he would not be a regular starter with the majority of PL teams. He is not the quickest and prone to make a mistake. BFC is the perfect club -captain, adored by fans for his no nonsense defending. If he wont sign, he wont sign. Nothing to do with us. Maybe that's why the rumours are doing the rounds re Craig Dawson

Be a great shame to see him go but nothing lasts forever and if we got a good fee and he gets a 2/3 yr deal somewhere all is good. Can’t see any top 6 wanting him but he’d be a great asset to a newly promoted next season or a Brighton/hudds/Bournemouth type club.

While he’s been a real braveheart for us and SD framework he’s not a natural for many clubs with his lack of pace and average distribution .I hope he stays

Time for the board to go the extra mile on this. Probably the most important player at the club right now, and besides, he deserves it.

Ben wont command anything like the money suggested here...for that kind of brass you want a footballer, not a warrior....if he wants Prem football he will need to stay here.....if its about wonga then he may move on to a flush promotion chasing Champ club.

Hes better off with us..and we are better off with him around.

Great injury record and goals conceded record so I would be very happy to keep him.

Daft not to think we could do better though, as we build. If he goes, he goes.

Not surprised to see Nixon rear his head around Easter he’s a mate of Judas after all!

I've said many times, its cheaper to pay the wages than pay for a replacement. Ben isnt the greatest footballer, but he is a great defender and essential to our team.
Rather the way SD fits this club, so does Ben. He would be a massive miss for us, and he might well struggle to slot into another team or system.
Hes earned a good pay rise, give him what he deserves.

Gets more things right about Burnley than wrong, and is certainly on the ball more than any of our local reporters

Would get massively exposed without our framework to protect him. With the fashion seemingly to be for ball playing centre half's not sure how many other Premiership sides would realistically be interested anyway.

I imagine that most of this is just agent talk. Ben is currently playing the best football of his career, at the very top level. If he signs a new deal with Burnley, then as long as his demands are in keeping with Some of the other players in the squad, then I would say that it's well and truly deserved and the best for all parties.

Mee is the very heartbeat of this Burnley side. He epitomises the town itself. He would be an enormous loss. I do though, strongly believe that he'll sign a new deal with Burnley.

He may be looking at how well Trippier has done since he left for Spurs to get international recognition that has not transpired at Burnley. Really hope he stays because he is one of the best out and out defenders in the league.

Yes who on earth would be interested in statistically one of the better centre half’s in this league!?

Probably realises he'll never get an England call-up no matter how well he plays. He's probably think he might aswell try and get top dollar somewhere else.

I'd be very sorry to see him go - has been a mainstay for us in our recent successes and made over 200 appearances in the process. If we can, I'd like us to keep him on.

If he goes it would be a massive shame but we move on. Dawson in from a relegated West Brom and it will soon be Ben who?? Dawson in and Ben signing new deal would be perfect outcome..

Dawson does not play on the left hand side of defence so no replacement for Mee
If we can persuade Tarks to sign a new 4 year deal then I would hope for something similar in this situation

Not a player I would want to lose. Represents everything good about us and a typical Burnley player. I trust the club will make the right decision though. Ultimately if a player wants to go that's the way it is and the club has to cash in. One of my favourite players but club first always.

Even a suggestion of him leaving has my head in bits.

If Mee does leave and returns playing for another club, I'd want to see a claret ovation that leaves him with tears in his eyes.

No coincidence that whoever plays next to him looks very tidy - he does the dirty stuff and is in place to cover the more fashionable players. Without him, Keane and Tark would have been very exposed as would the discipline of our back line.

Would be mad to let him go.

I'd be devastated if he left. A great player for us and anyone who who doesn't feel that way and would be happy for him to go has not been watching us for the last few seasons. He may not be the most stylish of defenders but wow is he effective.
Please stay Sir Benjamin :(

Everton will be looking for better than Williams and Jagielka. That would be my main concern but an improved contract(deserved btw) and the captaincy should be enough to keep him.
Tom has done nothing wrong as captain but I don't like keeper skippers.

Epitomises the town itself! What a load of over the top guff. He's a footballer earning multiple grand a week. Fair play to him like. Just trying to squeeze a few more quid, he'll sign
