Winster (near Windemere) suggestions
Me and the soon to be Mrs Pies are staying at The Brown Horse Inn this coming Friday & Saturday. Looks nice so we're having a meal in the hotel on the Saturday evening but other than that we haven't made any plans. Will have the car and can have a drive out but probably go for a walk and a light lunch somewhere on the Saturday and maybe do something on Sunday before a stop off to see family on the way home. Anybody visited the Winster area and have any advice? Equally happy for any suggestions which may require a drive out from there if there's any gems to explore. Cheers.

If you like beer, Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley is worth a visit.
Re: Winster (near Windemere) suggestions
I think there is a brewery at that pub. Anyway it's Lyth Valley so Bowness/ Windermere to the north. Ate in the Flying Pig in November, was pretty good and had a couple in the Angel in February.
There is also the Hare and Hounds (Levens) , Wheatsheaf Brigsteer and the Sun Inn Crook to the south.
Probably not too far from Cartmel where Unsworth's yard is worth a visit.
Walks, Scout Scar near Kendal or round Cockshot Point Bowness.

Hare and Hounds at Levens does fabulous food and the head chef is a Claret.... Say hi to Allan for me if you go. Brown Horse can be a bit hit and miss... My brother had his wedding reception there. Also try out the Damson Dene.

If a nice day take the lake road towards Newby Bridge. Check a map but, about 3/4 mile before Newby Bridge roundabout there is a left turn up a steep hill. Parking available just before top, then cross the road to walk up Gummer's How. Fantastic views on a belting day, and a decent hike to summit. Enjoy

Don’t know if you will be up towards Keswick but the Kings Head at Thirlspot does great food and is in a lovely location.
Several good pubs in Hawkshead as well.

Red Lion in Hawkshead was quality when we ate there the other year. Flat iron steak. Really friendly place.
Depends how far you want to drive, Coniston is decent. Walk on lake shore and back into village or get boat to Torver and walk back. 2 pubs in Torver, only ate at Wilsons.
