Re: Andre Gray
I know a good number of Watford fans down here and , to a man and woman, they all think Andre is absolutely useless. He also burned his bridges with the fans when he scored a tap in at Newcastle and gave them the cupped ears...which they took umbrage with. Remember him doing the same to us at Palace last season..an odd thing to do.
There really isn't any doubt that we had Watford's trousers down with that transfer fee.

One good season and he’s remembered on here like he was shearer or summat.
I remember the promotion season well enough, but I don’t remember a ‘one man team’.

Re: Andre Gray
Had more success for us in his short time than Ings or Rodriguez. Scored more goals in a season than either ever have or will. Actually scorrd more goals for Burnley in 2 seasons than Jay did in his time with us. Yet like Austin he will get jeered whenever he plays us where Ings and Jay will have their name sung during a match!
Burnley fans are a strange bunch at times.

I wouldn’t chant or sing for any opposition player, but the reason a lot of people would jeer Gray, I suspect, is because he’s a tosser.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Had more success for us in his short time than Ings or Rodriguez. Watford will do well to get back anything like their outlay on him. Daft decision for him t join Watford but we all know what his motivation was. Great signing by Marco Silva - another reason I wouldn't want him as manager !

I was happy that we signed him, I think he did well for us and scored some crucial goals, had to content with a difficult period with his ban, don't think he is a top-flight-level player, hope he finds somewhere he can play on a regular basis but that is likely to be a division down.

Andre was brilliant for us, without his goals we would not have won promotion.
I thought his game improved last season and he should have stayed another year or two under Dyche

I don't get the aggro towards Gray. He wasn't in the team, so instructed his agent to get him a move. Every player does that.

Re: Andre Gray
I really dont get the ill feeling towards him. He worked pretty hard as far as i can see, and obviously turned his life around significantly to progress as he has.
He played a big part in our promotion season, and as far as i can see, didnt leave under a cloud or cause any problems..
If dyche wanted to buy him back (i dont think he will want to or pay the wages), I'd support him like i would any signing.

Re: Andre Gray
If we didn't sign him then we would have never been promoted - there's no two ways about that.
He was fit all season and scored match winning, point earning goals.
When he returned with Watford two cretins sat behind me were giving him some grief, told them to pack it in.
It's not like he left half way through a season, we had plenty of time to get a replacement and we got a handsome fee, absolutely no hard feelings.
As cricketfield says, we can be an odd bunch at times.

frig me lads - come on... if you could treble your wages somewhere - you'd be off.
Take the claret tinted specs off.
He did a tremendous job - we've moved on, he is only 26 and is taking some money. He'll end up getting another Championship team up when his contract ends at Watford.. i say fair play to the lad.

Re: Andre Gray
His goals fired us to promotion (where he was Championship top scorer AND Player Of The Year) and his goals last season contributed to our survival. We then made almost ten million profit on him, buying an upgrade in Wood for less money.
Who cares about him now? I personally couldn't give two shiny shites about his career moving forward much less abuse someone who pretty much excelled in his tenure here.

Re: Andre Gray
Seemed to take his eye off the ball when he got mixed up with that foxy-looking bird of his. That and the attraction of bright lights, big city.
Re: Andre Gray
Strange thread this one. Gray scored shed loads in our promotion season and was a big part in our return to the PL which I am more than happy about. In the Pl when he wasn't scoring shed loads being offside so often annoyed me, his poor first touch annoyed me and I wished he would score more goals. Then his attitude when he didn't start games became very noticeable, add to that the ban for his tweets and turning down our contract offer and well we mugged Watford for more £'s than he is worth. I am happy he is not at our club and we still have a squad who clearly support each other, I couldn't give three flying figs about Andre now, although I do know 2 season ticket holders at Watford and it is a pleasure to listen to them whining and moaning when we occasionally meet up.

Anyone think we would have won the championship and got promoted without Andre Gray?
No?
Then accept that he was a very good player for us, and that he moved on to another club because he wanted too. Lots of players do it.

Right move for both parties at the time. File under Robbie Earnshaw as class in the Championship, average in the Prem. Lives offside too.

Rileybobs - nobody is condoning (except maybe some of those on the surrogacy thread !!) the homophobic comments Gray made a few years ago.
But these aside your reaction seems a bit over the top. Lots of players have left Burnley for financial reasons. Do you have the same feelings about Ings, JayRod, Austin etc ? The way Ings and Austin left the club was arguably less dignified than Gray.

Re: Andre Gray
Andre Gray's offside record isn't bad in the slightest
This season he's offside 0.6 times per 90 minutes.
Chris Wood is 1.6 times.
It was similar when he was here. As usual once the Burnley faithful have a boo boy they'll exaggerate everything about it - with Gray it was him being offside.
He wasn't offside more than average.

Depends how you measure 'success' but I don't think it's right to say Gray had more success with us than Ings. They both had one good season of scoring in the Championship (Gray 25, Ings 22) and one where they did pretty well in the Prem (Gray 10 Ings 11). That's 2 goals difference over 2 seasons. In Ings' Championship season his partnership with Vokes saw Vokes have the best season of his career too.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Had more success for us in his short time than Ings or Rodriguez. They had very similar levels of success for us I'd say. In my opinion Ings is head and shoulders above Gray and was a better player for us, kind of supported by the places they ended up after us (Watford's bench - no injuries, Liverpool's bench - several injuries).

Both great players for us in the Championship. Ings looked more comfortable in the PL. Both thought they could do better elsewhere; both were right financially but wrong in football terms...although we’ll never know what impact Danny’s injury had on his career

He scored the winner against bastards for the first home win against them in my lifetime. Many thanks for that Andre.
Did loads of other good stuff for us too.
Hope he can find a club where he's the regular forward and has success.
Hope he doesn't have a good game against us and if he does ever play against us I hope we make him look hopeless.

Fair points. I'd say as a team we were further along when Gray was here, higher wages, better players, better chance of winning the league and staying up, so I don't think you can give that to Gray on a 1 to 1 comparison. Gray himself was £9M and on a decent wage whilst Ings was £1M and not, that makes Ings's record more impressive IMO. I'd also say Ings was more of a key player, Gray spent spells on the bench in the Prem, Ings didn't.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Gray was the leagues top scorer. (Ings was 4th).

35 apps, 11 league goals.
Gray - PL
32 apps, 9 league goals.
Wasn't much in it really appearance wise in the PL.

I don't have any ill-will towards Gray because he left us - I'm quite ambivalent about most former Clarets to be honest. I'm also not under-estimating his contribution to the club because he was fantastic in our promotion season. I just don't find him to be a likeable fellow, his behaviour towards the fans and his homophobic comments have led me to that opinion of him.TVC15 wrote:Rileybobs - nobody is condoning (except maybe some of those on the surrogacy thread !!) the homophobic comments Gray made a few years ago.
