Wasn't much in it really appearance wise in the PL.
Which includes a 4 game ban.

Not even close to average in the Premier. God only knows what made Watford pay 18 million for him. Great in the championship though. No doubt some simpleton will say "well he got 9 goals in the premier league for us".
I don't care, if you think he's an average to good premier league striker then you just don't know football.

What's average in the PL then?

Shane Long is highly fancied by many on here and he's pretty toss in regards to his goal scoring record...

As for not knowing football, based on a solitary season for us you can't declare if he's average or not.

It's called using your eyes. He is not a top league striker. If you think he is then you're either stupid or blind.

Goals are only part of the story...it really depends on the level of service...I certainly would say he was not proven at EPL level before his move...

we paid not a lot less for a striker who was not proven at this level as well..Wood.

Wood may have had this season a more promising start than Gray however i would also say the service to the strikers is better this season than last year...so nine goals, in context, is respectable yet far from stunning for a first season EPL striker.

I have expressed my feelings on him on previous threads.

I don't even consider him to be a footballer. Once he loses his pace, he'll be
less than useless.

For what it's worth, that's my opinion.

So back to my comment, what is Shane Long then?
19 league goals in 115 games for Saints yet people on here suggest we sign him on a regular basis for some really bizarre reason that I've never worked out.

Gray did a job for us, you can carry on grinding your axe, but he's no worse than Ings when it comes to the top flight.
It isn't about being stupid, it's looking at facts.

There are several strikers in the PL who many would say aren't a top league striker, but here they are ploughing away.

Put Gray in a system that plays to his strengths and he will score, he's proven it time and again.
You can call as many people stupid as you like if it makes you feel warm at night, but that's generally how it works for all strikers.

Chris Wood, given enough game time will bag us 20+ goals a season. Doing the maths, Gray would get us around 15.

We seem to be superb on selling players and bringing in better.

Which one of those is Sean Dyche, who wanted to keep him in the summer?

There were plenty of fans who would have happily let Barnes go last summer because he wasn't a PL striker either. Look what happened there. Better service and better quality in the squad had suddenly made Barnes look like a PL striker. Gray was good for us, very good in the Championship. I know they were useless but the Gray we saw versus Sunderland last season was very much a PL striker. He gave them a torrid time from the first minute. He's limited, like most of our players, but he's useful in the right system. Would i have him back? No, we moved on. Did he do a job for us? Yes, absolutely. He scored goals and we made a tidy profit. Those are the facts and they don't read too bad.

The content of his Historical Tweets and the subsequent injustice of our punishment for them left a bad taste in my mouth, but Gray's overall contribution to Burnley's Cause is beyond refute. Re-write history as much as you'd like, but Gray was a Success in almost every way you could look at it for us.

Gray was indeed a success for us. His involvement with us worked a treat and he made a massive contribution to our promotion and a significant, albeit lesser, contribution to our survival. We got a lot of money for him, he made a lot of money from his move. We have developed/evolved now into a far better side and we need players who are comfortable receiving the ball in tight situations, which Gray patently isn't. Barnes is a much better all round footballer, despite his reputation as a battering ram.

You can argue all you like but to try and claim Andre Gray is a top level striker means you're deluded. I'm not bothered about Long or anyone else, Andre Gray will never be a success at this level. He's a good championship striker, that's all. Bump this thread in 5 years and let's see if you're right.

Sean Dyche also signed Lukas Jutkiewicz, was he an average Premier league striker? Dyche is human, he makes mistakes.
So would you say that Gray is a better than average Premier league striker? Oh I forgot, he's banging in goal after goal at Watford!

If Gray was playing in a system that suited him he'd score goals.

He wouldn't be a top striker, he'd be an average one.

Meanwhile we're all stupid, including Dyche for thinking that

Gray playing in a system that suited him wouldn't even be average in the premier league, he's not premier league standard at all. Should have gone to Specsavers Sidney.

He scored 9 goals last year, missed a part of the season and didn't start every game when fit either, goal to minute ratio was good and that was his first PL season. To say he isn't even an average PL player off the back of a 9 goal season is stupidity at it's finest.

If the strikers have had better service this season then the end product is not much different, we have 31 goals from 32 games and had 39 from 38 last season and after 32 games 32 scored and Barnes and Wood have 15 of them to 19 from Gray and Vokes last season and our 3 strikers last season bagged
25 and the 3 so far have 19. So the 3 have scored 59% of our goals and last season they scored 64%. The interesting point from the CM stats is that in 32 games our 3 strikers have played about 4000 minutes but last season in 38 matches they played 6000 minutes, so maybe we are better in goals per minutes played by the 3 strikers compared with last season but those stats suggest we are pretty similar to last season apart from the results. The defence have fared better with 1.45 goals per game last season 0.88 per game this season thus far. All that suggests it is our defence that has pushed us up the table.

I'm not sure why people's opinion of Gray is that he is terrible.
He was arguably too good for the Championship, we didn't miss Ings when he came in and he made a name for himself in his first season.

Yes, losing him for £18m is hardly upsetting, and he touch is pretty poor... but Lukaku has a poor first touch. I'm not comparing the 2, just saying he got himself £9m and £18m moves despite his lack of touch.
A lot mentioned about service too. Granted he didn't get fantastic service, but Wood has scored goals because his movement has created an opportunity to get service to him.

We got a great deal. Both in buying him for £9m and selling him on.
Not really much else to think about, he just hasn't grown as a player.

Ings's all round game was far better than Gray's. Gray did a good job for us even though he divided opinion in the stands. The club made good profit on him so no complaints. Would we have him back ? No we've moved on.
