Anywhere warm!
Anyway...
I can't decide how we're going to qualify for the Champions League the next season.
Top four or winning the Europa League?

Somewhere in the Netherlands would be good. It appears we have a very vocal fan base over there, so it would be ideal.
We’ve got the small matter of finishing 7th first, and Southampton not winning the FA Cup.
Beat Leicester next weekend and I think we’ll almost be there.

When Everton drew the Cypriot team away in December, a lot of Everton fans had a cheap week away in Paphos and hired coaches to take them to the colder side of the Island for the game.

Somewhere hot for a long weekend, Cyprus, Greece or Spain for me.
Save the likes of Serbia, Romania and Russia for the group stage when I’ll already be in a winter mindset.

I'd love to get Ajax (or anyone in NL really), now living back in Amsterdam it would be awesome to see the clarets play (win?) in the Johan Cruijff Arena against my modernday home town club (although it looks like they might be busy qualifying for the Champions League...).

I still think we are getting a little too far ahead of ourselves.
Leave it for a week or two yet as 7th may not be guaranteed a spot even if we do finish up there.

I know what you're saying but it's hard to not get carried away isn't it? Playing in Europe or winning a cup is realistically as good as it gets for us. Still have this horrible feeling that we'll finish 7th and Southampton will go and win the FA cup.JohnMac wrote:I still think we are getting a little too far ahead of ourselves.

Sack that. It's brilliant that we can even talk about the possibility. Most people still seem to be thinking if not when.JohnMac wrote:I still think we are getting a little too far ahead of ourselves.

I'm thinking of hitching a ride via Freepost, if we get TNS.

I like Jedi's thoughts that Romania will be a winter destination - they get very warm summers.

Wonder if anyone here attended any of the away Fairs Cup games at Stuttgart, Lausanne, Napoli or Eintracht Frankfurt in 66/7? Or even the European Cup ties in Reims or Hamburg in 60/1? A friend's dad went to Napoli but it would be interesting to hear any tales of past European tours.

Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
I would travel to 75% of places, and with us entering at the 3rd qualification round stage (or group stage if Arsenal win the Europa) that would only affect the latter part of the school hols.
Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
I've only just logged onto this but 1963claret had me laughing out loud with your reply about Blackburn, (maybe three glasses of wine had something to do with it). This end of the season is every bit as tense as the last two promotion seasons and again it's between us and Leicester. a point on Saturday will be good enough I think.

I'd travel with or without tickets. With quite a few others I imagine

Would have thought you'd be able to get in most grounds if you travelled without a ticket. Where there's a will there's a way. Obviously some places you'd have to take more care, wouldn't want to find yourself sat in the middle of a load of Russian Ultra's!
Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
It is crazy, insane that we might be playing in a European competition again.
And I really don't think our manager would field a weakened team.
Just how lucky we are to have him at our club?

Re: Europe Daw/Dates 2018/2019
I don't think you have. I'm told that this year they've changed the rules so we only get 4 places max in the Champions League, so if Arsenal win the Europa Cup they get in the CL but 4th place (Probably Spurs) get in the Europa Cup.BurnleyIsWonderful wrote:I, for one, was completely baffled about the qualification process of the Europa League, so I thought I’d create a handy little table with all the possible scenarios, should we hang on to 7th place:
Assumptions:
1. League standings for the top 7 stay the same until the end of the season
2. I have interpreted the complexities of UEFA’s qualification system correctly!

How the hell are we going to fit the games in and can we play a weakened side without fines?
Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
A 4 day trip to Napa and a €150 return taxi to Limassol would be a great do. Went there last year the day after they played Everton and there were a few of them on the plane back.

Re: Europe Daw/Dates 2018/2019
Happy to be corrected, but it does state in the first link, which explains the changes for the 2018/19 season, that "an association may have a maximum of five teams in the group stage" in the Champions League.dsr wrote:I don't think you have. Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
Is anyone able to clear this up? If Arsenal win the Europa League, will England have 4 or 5 representatives in the Champions League next season?
Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
I can't find anything where it is officially confirmed in actual written words but I think that scenario chart you posted is correct.BurnleyIsWonderful wrote:Is anyone able to clear this up? Assume it will be same as this season where we had the top 4 - Chelsea, Man City, Spurs & Liverpool plus last year's Europa League winners Man UnitedBurnleyIsWonderful wrote:Is anyone able to clear this up? Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
Having looked into this further, I think there was a mistake in my original table.
If Arsenal win the Europa League, then my current understanding is that this place in the group stage of the Europa League is ‘lost’. This is based on what happened last year with Manchester United winning the Europa League, which can be found here. My interpretation of this scenario is shown below, with Arsenal's place going to cup winners of the Netherlands.
In this scenario, the team in 7th place in the Premier League would enter Europa League at the second qualifying round.
Therefore, it looks like the League Cup has been devalued even further, as the winners will now only enter the Europa League at the second qualifying round, instead of the third qualifying round as happened previously.
Updated table below – also changed to position numbers rather than team names:
To qualify for the group stage of the Europa League, Burnley would need to finish 6th, Arsenal not to win the Europa League and Southampton not to win the FA Cup. Come on Clarets!
Any feedback welcome!

Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
If we go into qualifiers i reckon we would take around 5-10k away as it could potentially be the only away game in Europe we ever get to see us play.
If we go straight into the groups and have a guarantee of 3 games i think it will spread the support out as people will pick and choose their matches to fit in with other stuff in their life so maybe 3-5k for the first game (unless its a real plum tie in a great sunny location)

Judging by how many people were singing about going on a European tour repeatedly yesterday, it could be a case of last man out of Burnley switch the lights out.

We'll all meet in the middle of Norway, and watch us continue the good away form, against Rosenborg.. Time for another visit to the land up north, about 45 years since we lost a summergame v Vaalerenga.. UTC!
Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
All these beautiful cities & magnificent stadiums we're going to visit...
Sumgayit - capacity 1,500..Or maybe Jonova - capacity 1,000
Perhaps Vestmanneyjaz,capacity 2,300
Good luck with the tickets

TBH if we take over 5k fans and get anything less than 1500 tickets id far rather by in the town centre all day drinking and singing and having fun with the thousands of other Clarets and locals and just watch it on a screenDazzler wrote:All these beautiful cities & magnificent stadiums we're going to visit...

Understand to some people its all about watching the game and the result but for most it will be the whole experience of going abroad with your mates and family and having one big party

noone mentioned big screen. Some little TV in a bar will do and as said for a lot it will be one big party with the actual match taking second place. Might not be your view and that of others but they will be thousands who are more than happy with that.Dazzler wrote:Big screen in the backwaters of Europe??

Reckon we’d easily take 3000
Re: Big If "Europe" How many would travel ?
I'm sure some small eastern European club wouldn't turn away hundreds of Burnley fans wanting to pay in the home end. Would be their biggest payday of the year.
