Chromecast Advice

Post by basil6345789 » Thu Apr 12, 2018 10:30 pm

Daughter has bt landline and bt wi-fi and has just got btsports for grandson on Android (Samsung) phone.
It works but I believe I need a Chromecast dongle in order to cast stream to watch on big TV.
Anyone know which Chromecast dongles to consider or not bother with in terms of price/reliability, etc, please?

It's a bloody big thing, 3D and about 9 years old. She's using a universal remote handset as lad got first one wet.

I just invested in the Chromecast pro, or whatever it's called. All I know is my phone is now my remote. Migrated to it 3 days ago. the 17 year-old came in from school, took her usual position in front of the TV, and didn't know what to do, so huffed, puffed, and complained... "Great.... you've changed the TV. Now I'll have to do something else." 3 days later she still hasn't had the gumption to ask of me nicely "ooh, this looks great, how do I make it work?"

Assuming your tv has HDMI sockets (I assume it would) then just a bog standard Chromecast for £30 (although you do get deals on them at times) looking like this should do the job:

Ive a CC and its really good, particularly for casting from my tablet.
Anything you can see on the tablet you can cast to the telly.

So it would be a case of getting the BT and Sky apps onto the tablet, i would think.
Cant see a reason they wouldnt cast, though dont have Sky or BT myself.
However, the quality of the picture can suffer in the act of casting.

You can't mirror Sky app onto TV via apple TV so I would check before you buy one.

You can't (legitimately) cast Sky even from their app regardless of what you plug into your TV. They just don't let you do it.

BT Sport can be cast from it's app though, as can BBC. Other channels are a bit hit & miss (ITV won't let you cast live tv, for instance, but will let you cast the shows in their library.)

If you use Netflix then a Chromecast is well worth the money. If you use Amazon Prime I think you'll need a firestick instead.

I have an LG smart, not android, and it won't accept modbro casts.
