Here is the CORRECT answer
5th and 6th come in at group stage
7th comes in at 2nd qualifying round
Doesn't matter what Arsenal do in this year's tournament. If their spot in the group stage is vacated it goes to the next country down on the coefficients that doesn't already have a 2nd team in the group stage, which means a Dutch side.

So we're finally agreed that if we qualify we'll enter in the 2nd qualifying round
Not a problem with those dates but I'll seriously be struggling to get time off work for the 3rd qualifying round and playoff. On another note looking at the dates we could potentially only have a week between knowing our opponents and playing the away leg. Would be interesting booking travel and our ticket office having to work out a plan for ticket sales with their track record

What happens if Southampton win The FA Cup if they get put back in after the claims in the press today about Chelsea fielding two ineligible players?

We can still finish 6th, then this becomes moot.

Then we drown our sorrows in lashings of beer.
Or we secure 6th spot.

After tonight it looks like we need to finish above Arsenal to go straight into the group stages. And it’s possible - they have to play Man U away and we have 2 home games as well as Arsenal away. Win all 3 and we will likely come 6th.

If only it was that simple. A bit like Aston Villa fans holding on to the notion of automatic promotion still.

Feyenoord will be upset with the Arsenal defending because they would have been the beneficiaries if Arsenal win the Europa, it was never to be us, and it would seem highly unlikely for us to catch Arsenal who are 4 points ahead with a game in hand, with us having only three to go.
It’s July football for us, but we’d have grabbed that with both hands if offered it back in August.

How about this possibility?
Something our fans would likely cry over but probably the least they deserve for singing about Europe since Everton(A).
We don't make enough points? Shock horror. What will we do?

Think we enter in Round 3 instead of Round 2 when all other PL teams enter ( except those qualifying for Europe) Nice bonus

If we qualify for the Europa League I think I am correct in saying that we will not enter the ECL until Round 3 All other PL teams ( except those playing in Europe ) will enter in Round 2. Nice little bonus of European Qualification and certainly puts us in an elite group.

Marvellous. Our second string can get knocked out of the Carabao Cup in an away tie against an unglamorous lower league side a round later than normal.

I think it does matter.
If they don’t win it and we beat them to 6th in the league I think I’m right to say they would have to qualify...?

Of course. This was covered in my full length post. But I cut that bit out for clarity. My full post was:
Here is the CORRECT answer
5th and 6th come in at group stage
7th comes in at 2nd qualifying round

But I think you mis-understood KeighleyClaret's post. He was referring to whether we had a chance of finishing 6th, not the Europa League, that's why he mentioned the likes of Man U. in his post.

I understood it to mean that 'after tonight' being that he didn't think Arsenal were going to win the Europa after their disappointing first leg, but in theory he had the belief that their winning the tournament would benefit us somehow.

So if we finish 6th we go in at the group stage then, and Arsenal would finish 7th and need to go to the 2nd qualifying round, unless they win the Cup and go into the champions league - is that right?

Indeed. If we get 6th place we get the group stage spot. Arsenal are irrelevant to that.

It's all been very confusing but Falcon is correct - if we finish 7th we will play in the 2nd qualifying round in July regardless of what Arsenal do in this season's Europa League.

Please excuse my extreme lack of Europa league knowledge .....but,
I promised my lads that if we made the europa league - i'd take them away to watch a game becuase the initial qualifier fall within the summer holidays.
I've no idea how it works - what are the chances of getting drawn against someone abroad (and not too difficult to fly to) in the early rounds?
Am I flying somewhere to Europe of driving down to Wales!?

DIESEL baby to be honest we only have Cork Dundalk and someone else who i can't think of . So the chances of you wanting to stay in Galway are slim . But if it did happen i guess we would have at least 20 kipping in our place hey and that' just close friends .

Southampton and West Ham have failed to qualify for it quite recently, Soton crashed out to Hapoel Be'er Sheva (Israel) and West Ham got beat off Astra Giurgiu (I think they're Romanian). I think some of these minnow leagues play competitive fixtures while we'll be in pre-season, qualification should be pretty simple on paper but I wouldn't get over excited just yet.

Agreed, this is the reason I’m gonna make damn sure I’m at that qualifier away tie in case it’s my one and only chance to see Burnley away in Europe (competitively).
