Re: Newcastle v Arsenal
Apparently Arsenal are the only PL team without an away point in 2018.

We only need to beat Arsenal by 8 goals to go ahead of them on goal difference - assuming parity in all our other games.IanMcL wrote:Excellent! Here come the Clarets.

No...we are only 2 points behind. A win = 1 ahead. Goals irrelevant!Paul Waine wrote:We only need to beat Arsenal by 8 goals to go ahead of them on goal difference - assuming parity in all our other games.

Re: Newcastle v Arsenal
? Arsenal played 33, points 55, GD +18; Burnley played 33, points 52, GD +4.Tall Paul wrote:Goal difference won't matter, we'll have more points than them.
If we achieve the same results ("parity") as Arsenal do in the other 4 games we've both got to play, then we've got to get ahead of them on GD.
Or am I missing something?
Arsenal to focus on Europa semi - and final if they can beat Athletico.
Let's see where we are after Chelsea game.

EDIT: BBC table showing the wrong number of points for Arsenal. Not updated since 14:32 - over an hour ago. Yes, I've got this wrong - which is very good.

If you're looking at the BBC's table, they have got it wrong.

Yep, I saw the same and was lost for a second, Paul. You probably need to refresh table or look at another one

Re: Newcastle v Arsenal
A great result for us and the Toon, but let's get back to one game at a time. It's stood us well for so long, and Chelski won't be easy. Get a result against them and it MIGHT be in our own hands, but still too early to celebrate. We could do with 6th, because knowing us Saints will probably win the bleeding cup.

If it wasn't for Lee Mason we'd be 6th now as we'd have 1 point more and Arsenal 2 points less.

Re: Newcastle v Arsenal
Just watched the Newcastle vs Arsenal game live on TV here, with Lee Dixon summarizing and really slating Arsenal's attitude and performance, while firmly pointing out and praising the magnitude of our achievement in being just 2 pts behind Arsenal at this stage.
Re: Newcastle v Arsenal
No it’s not. I want to finish the season knowing our fate so (if it happens) we can celebrate it. In your scenario we’d have to wait until after, what would be for us, a very tense Europa Cup final. Besides, Arsenal are playing the best team left in it in the semi. If they get through I’d expect them to win it.Down_Rover wrote:Dreamland scenario.
