As excellent as Chelsea were, we were equally as poor. Too direct and too static which was food and drink for the Chelsea defenders. Thought Hendrick was missed and could have been brought on.

I must have been at a different match.

We were playing Chelsea FFS!

Freak own goal and we were out-muscled by some very good players. Cahill played very well and neutralised most of what we had to offer up front.

Let's hope Chelsea outplay Sarfampton on Sunday.

Pope 6
Lowton 7
Long 6
Tarkowski 6
Ward 6
JBG 7
Cork 7
Westwood 7 *
Lennon 5
Wood 6
Barnes 6

Pope 5
Lowton 6 (second thoughts I’ve upped him to a 6)
Tarks 4
Long 4
Ward 4
Lennon 4
JBG 7 MoM
Cork 7
Westwood 6
Barnes 4
Wood 4

Disappointed in our performance and so many being off it. Felt we were very uncomfortable and un Burnley like today. But we are still 7th and that keeps me smiling.

RV Clarets nails it.
A bad night at the office.
Fair play Chelsea but too many players not really at it.
Pope - 6 Poor for first and kicking back to a bit crap
Lowton - 7 Best defender tonight
Tarks - 5 Starting to believe his own publicity for me
Long - 6 Unlucky for goal and better than Tarky
Ward - 5 Not his best game
Lennon - 5 V poor
Westwood - 6 Battled manfully
Cork - 6 Same as Westwood
JBG - 7 Just edges Lowton for our MOM
Barnes - 6 Not at his best
Wood - 5 Not at it at all today.

Vokes - 6

Think Vokes should have been brought on earlier with Hendrick to win the second ball, Wood had a tough time up against their defence.

Poorest we've defended in a while.

HOWEVER let's be objective here, Chelsea just came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 and seem in better spirits.

Regroup and on we march

Amazing how different people see different games.
Lowton was awful tonight - epitomised by that ridiculous pass when he was the last man which ended up in Morata being through.

Only players who played well tonight were Cork and JBG

Let’s not overreact though - we got beat by a single goal by last years Champions. We could not get going tonight and they were up for it from first whistle. We could not cope with that French ponce Girlyroud and the likes of Pedro and Hazard were brilliant.

Silver lining is that if they play like that they’ll stuff Saints in semi final

Cork and JBG put in their usual shifts. I thought Lennon was so ineffective that he should have been taken off at halftime. Chelsea were playing their neat little triangles, and we couldn't put 2 passes together, except if they were back passes, which we seem to specialize in.

Ward 5 - tried.
JBG 6 - average
Cork 6 - involved, but nothing serious

Bad day at the office for all except the fans who never gave up. Even Sean had a bad day. How Lennon stayed on beyond 15 mins was amazing.

Pope 5 Poor for both goals
Lowton 5
Tarks 5
Long 6 Battled hard against 2 quality strikers
Ward 4 Possibly his worst game. Very out of character for him.
JBG. 5 Never in the game first half but much better in second
Cork 7 MOM was over run but worked so hard
Westwood 6
Lennon 3 A Shocker from kick off to going off
Wood 4 Never in the game
Barnes 5 Usual hard work but easily held by Cahill

We looked tired and were against a very good Chelsea.

Ha ha ha - a fantastic opportunity for all the naysayers to jump back out of their boxes. Well done guys. :(
Chelsea were the better side and underlined the difference between the top 6 and the rest.
We had some below par performances, but nothing like the mass hysteria of throwing around ratings of 3 and 4.

As poor as we've been all season IMO. We offered absolutely nothing in the first half, did well for 15 minutes in the second and then there was nothing again. However, a lot of credit goes to Chelsea for that. They were excellent and nulified us all over the pitch. They were bigger, quicker, stronger and just better in all areas. Giroud played a masterclass up front. I don't think Long or Tarky got anywhere near him all night.

I didn't think we were awful tonight. I thought we looked slightly sloppy in places and a few of our passes were sluggish. A few occasions, players were just out of sync with each other. These things happen; especially when up against quality opposition who score early.

Pope 6 - Was OK. Possibly an outstanding tip to deny the lad who ran miles clear. A little tentative for the first. 2nd goes in at his near post.
Lowton 6 - OK
Long 6 - OK
Tarkowski 6 -OK
Ward 5 - Had a hard time. When Hazard came on, it made it even tougher.
JBG 7 - Decent. Direct at times.
Cork 7 - Lovely to watch. Glides around. Didn't quite come off tonight but played well.
Westwood 7 - Nothing major but steady and worked hard.
Lennon 5 - Didn't come off tonight.
Wood 6 - A couple of nice touches. I'd love to see if he was pulled down by the black CD when he was about to lay it off for Barnes in 1st half.
Barnes 6 - Hard work. Lucky with the goal. Not much change given but I'd still have hated to mark him tonight.

Vokes 6 - A couple of good headers from difficult positions. Reasonable 20 mins.

Again, we weren't horrendous. 2 poor goals given away. Could easily have still got a draw despite so many posters on here claiming we were awful. If that is an example of how awful we can be, it shows how far we have come. Disappointing but we're allowed to be disappointed occasionally.

Pope 6- I need to see the first goal again but his handling didn't seem as good today.
Lowton 6- Wasn't utilised properly today, Lennon offered him nothing first half.
Long 5- Found out by decent players today, can't help but think the back four looks dodgy when he plays.
Tarka 5- One of his worst games for us. Hopefully a one off.
Ward 5- Normally think Ward is terrific but I thought he was poor today, hopefully another one off.
JBG 7- Good shift and wanted to attack, most of our decent play came through him.
Cork 7- Cork was man of the match for me, broke up play, moved us forwards and kept the ball moving. A very good display considering the opponents and the general team preformance.
Westwood 6- I was surprised at the high ratings for him, I have to admit I thought he was a bit meh. Cork seemed like he was running a one man midfield at times. Tidy player but didn't really affect the game for me today.
Lennon 5- it was quite clear it just wasn't working for him today. He didn't offer Lowton anything up the line in the first half, his lost the ball constantly and he struggled tracking back, especially in the second half on the left.
Wood 5- I'm just not convinced he fits the framework. Seems to struggle with the pressing game and it's crucial to how we play. When he's not scoring he's being carried.
Barnes 6- Not the usual Barnes today but the Chelsea defenders did do well with him. Presses much better than Wood.

Generally speaking a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea isn't a bad result, especially considering I only really thought Cork and JGB played well. Despite that I'm a little dissaponted because I didn't think Chelsea offered that much considering how poor we were. We miss Ben Mee.

On a side note Mee left the ground before the game finished today and didn't seem to be struggling with an injury....

Pope 4 - dropped a clanger for the first
Lowton 5 - rarely got forward
Tark 5 - shaky and struggled with the excellent Chelsea duo
Long 4 - unlucky with the first, was great against Leicester went into his shell tonight and didn't fill me with much confidence.
Ward 4 - probably his worst ever game for us which says it all about how great he's been, it happens.
JBG 6 - I don't think he played badly but we created nothing.
Cork 8 - we lost most 2nd balls, Cork won the majority of his in midfield.
Westwood 7 - had an almost impossible task against the Chelsea 3 with Pedro finding gaps behind him, Kante's non stop pressure and Bakayoko's physicality. Coped very very well again, been a consistent performer since Defour got injured.
Lennon 4 - poor tonight, Lowton rarely joined him in attack and became completely ineffective on the left hand side but it suited JBG.
Barnes 5 - battled non stop the ball just didn't stick.
Wood 4 - up against a pretty dominant Chelsea 3, isolated a lot and given little service.

Overall a tough night, I thought Chelsea were excellent and we were just not at it. It's impossible to maintain the level we play at, off games happen, unfortunately we had an off day and ran into Chelsea playing like Chelsea from last year. The good news is, Chelsea playing like that will walk through Southampton.

Some of the low marks on here seem to ignore just how good Chelsea were - we got away with a 2-1 defeat purely because everyone stuck to their job and gave maximum effort throughout.

Chelsea had more quality in every department - no disgrace in losing that (narrowly). We've won five in a row against four very average sides and Leicester, where we rode our luck. That was a very strong Chelsea side who brought Hazard off the bench. Sean's 'different animal' observation sums it up perfectly.

I thought that most of them were "2"s, and that we should have said "no mas" at halftime.

Pope - 5 one very good save with his feet, no idea what he was doing for either of their goals

Lowton - 6

Long - 6 v unlucky with the og but he was the better of our two centre halves and he won everything against morata in the air

Tarkowski- 5 stupid booking which meant he was on a tightrope and far too many casual passes

Ward - 6

Lennon - 5 other yard of pace he's lost was more evident tonight

Cork - 7 our best player on the night

Westwood - 6

Gudmundsson - 6

Barnes - 4 nullified, as was

Wood - 4

Have to say I thought Chelsea were excellent, albeit with little cutting edge. Kante, Cahill and Giroud all outstanding. Interesting they went with two big lumps up front like us but the interplay between their two was in stark contrast to ours, who were dealt with easily by Cahill and co.

It wasn't even that we played badly, more we just ran out of steam against a very good side. Bizarrely it was a really good game to watch, despite there not being much in the way of decent chances and three absolutely crap goals.

And I agree with the assessment of Ward. He lacked his usual creativity. And did you notice how long it took to make our throw-ins? There simply wasn't anybody open.

Pope 5 2nd questionable, distribution poor
Lowton 5 gave ball away
Tarky 5 as above
Long 5 quality showed
Ward 6
Lennon 5 anonymous
Cork 6
Westwood 6
JBG 7
Barnes 6
Wood 6

Kante 10

Chelsea were a class above. 2 of the slopiest goals they'll score to win a game, but could have had 4 and we couldn't have argued.
We were far from our Best, but were always in the game.

Stoke will be tough Sunday, we looked spent tonight.

The biggy was Leicester, and the job was done then, so can afford an off day, let's hope there's no hangover.

We were playing Chelsea FFS!

How long is the pathetic excuse of "WHO" we are playing going to last?

Or do we shout

"STOP PRESS: WE ARE PLAYING THOSE 2 LEAGUE POSITIONS ABOVE US!"

When we played at home to Swansea this season who on that showing was probably the worst Premier League team ive seen us play against I didn't see you questioning high ratings based on the fact we were up against a hopeless team. So with that in mind why should we mark players up because we played against a good side. We are a good Premier league team on merit and should judge them on how they preformed in themselves whilst understanding some sides will make us look good and some will make us look poor

I thought we were Ok but came across a tactical masterclass. The defence would get 5s from me, the rest 6s. JBG would have been a 7 if he had shown up first half.

In hindsight a pleasure to watch players of the class of Kante, made it worth the long journey (made longer on the way home by the inexplicable resurfacing at this time of the Westway roundabout, but hey ho). Leicester did us a favour by easing off tonight, and thanks to Ramsey’s dive we haven’t a cat in hells chance of overtaking Arsenal, so no damage was really done.

Indeed - so 3s and 4s playing against last season's champions who when they turn up (as they did tonight) are arguably the second or third best team in the country. The point is the same levels of organisation and endeavor were there like they always are. Chelsea had extra quality in critical areas. With one or two exceptions tonight the levels and consistency were similar to what we have delivered in a recent 5 game winning run - when we've not come up against anyone anywhere near as good as Chelsea.

I don't give player ratings, too much of what appears on this type of thread is agenda driven however it seems some people think we lost tonight because we didn't play well and so individual scores are low. The fact is we came up against a quality team who made us look ordinary. One or two mistakes we might usually get away with were punished and all of sudden half the team are 'poor' or 'below average' or whatever the numbers equate to.

It seems some people are showing the same false sense of superiority Leicester fans were ridiculed for after Saturday.

Can't comment on the Swansea game I wasn't there.

Second best throughout, more or less.
Chelsea were very good defensively. Snuffed us out early on and, we'd just no idea how to get at them.
Could, probably should, have lost by more.

We need most, if not all our 11 firing on all cylinders when playing the big money teams, or we struggle.
Too many today weren't.
Not that they played particularly badly.
Just Chelsea made it look that way.

That's not true, nobody is saying our players are poor or below average, the ratings indicate we think they played below average/poor. This isn't player ratings based on the season to date this is player ratings on a 90 minute game where IMO we were below par against a quality side. That isn't knocking the team or being negative for the sake of it, these things happen in football, we can't play well and win every single week. I do think Chelsea were good but how much of that was down to us being poor? No matter who you're playing against, the first goal was a real calamity. Is that not an individual mistake because Chelsea were the opponents? That's probably Pope's first ever mistake for us, is anybody slagging the lad off? or saying he's been crap the entire time? No, I think he was below par because quite frankly he gifted them a goal which is completely unlike him.

Pope 5 not his best
Lowton 7 mom for me
Long 5 was ok and partly at fault for their 1st
Tarkowski 4 quote poor from Tarks
Ward 5 off night for Ward and exposed a couple of times
JBG 6 did his best but limited by excellent defence
Cork 6 grafted but given little
Westwood 6 again stood strong but little time on ball
Lennon 4 no lack of effort or tracking back but no service
Wood 4 see Lennon his touch was off too
Barnes 5 nothing to feed off and spent a lot of game on his arse trying for a foul

Vokes 6 mixed it a bit

Beaten by a high class side packed with world class players and a bench to die for. 2 freak goals but we were always 2nd best and let’s be realistic here if a side like Chelsea turn it on most will be in trouble
