Enjoy the moment.....with the funds available to most of the Clubs in the Championship next season, it will take considerably more than the £21m that the Venkys have injected over the last 14 months for you to mount any sort of realistic challenge !!

Great to see the Roverrrrrrs fans have called off their "protests" and are now staunchly pro-Venkys. Wouldn't have thought they could be bought with something as cheap as a third division runners-up medal...actually, to be fair, I would have.

Although it’s impossible to win the Prem without spending a shed loads (apart from freak Leicester), teams often achieve things in the championship on a shoe string.
Millwall are a prime example this year. We have been twice before. Finances are important but not everything. I think Wigan will do well next season however I can see rovers losing a few early on and the feel good factor will return to its toxic norm

Mowbray has done a good job considering the circumstances and the general apathy towards the club from its supporters. They had a poor start, but been strong for the majority of the season.

Rovers financially is still a mess though, losing more than it makes and reliant heavily on the Venkys.Raya4espania. wrote:Football can be a funny thing and throw up surprises. Still possible you'll be handed an embargo for next season.
Re: Rovers so close now..
Tony Mowbray was a very good appointment after some spectacularly poor ones. A lot of good teams and big budgets in the Champ next year. I dont expect Rovers to challenge ( unless they are signing Ronaldo of course).

Amazing.
You don't hear anything for six years and suddenly......
I think its fair to say that the fact that Rovers fans have proved to be completely unable to handle having the **** taken out of them is even funnier than their actual decline.

I for one think it's great that Lancashire's less illustrious clubs do well, so bravo to Accrington and now, hopefully Blackburn Rovers.
Mowbray to Ipswich more likely, but I still think they have a realistic chance of survival in the Big League.

I really don’t care. I’m sure loads of people on here don’t care. I’m sure thousands of people in Blackburn don’t care. I’m sure millions of people in Lancashire don’t care.
Now Burnley so close to Europe..... that’s a different matter.

Has the boycott ended now?
Re: Rovers so close now..
I remember seeing in the pre-season predictions that B'burn were favourites to go up, and in reading further discovered this was due to investments made on the playing field. The link below is a random non-local one (for as little bias as possible), and it resoundingly suggests you should go up. Indeed anything less should be seen as a failure. Interestingly it looks as though Shrewsbury have defied expectations this season. The season isn't over yet - still time to fail! But congratulations are in order if you meet general expectations. Perhaps I should start calling you "the mighty B'stards" now.

Next season will all depend on what happens over the summer. The players you brought in are all described as "solid League 1" in the linked article. Will they be good enough to make the step up - even as backup? Will you buy a new team instead? You have good fortune in having wealthy owners, willing and able to make the required investments.

Re: Rovers so close now..
It's a big step up when teams find themselves promoted to the Championship, mixing it with the nearly big boys. Great to see the minnows from the lower leagues having a crack at it. Failure shouldn't be frowned upon, it's a hard league, especially for the newcomers.

But Rovers are still 7pts behind Macclesfield with 3 to play. Very much looking like play offs. Only one automatic promotion place doesn’t help.

Its in exactly the same sort of financial position as Bolton Wanderers were.
Promotion to the championship does not solve that.

I was out the other day with a couple of Rovers supporters and neither of them think they will get out of the bottom 6 next season, neither thought the Venkys would gave Mowbray sufficient funds and both thought some of their better players would leave.

Re: Rovers so close now..
I said last year that with the money in the PL now the knock-on effect will be in the Championship, possibly starting next season. There are going to be some very wealthy clubs coming down from the PL over the next few years and I can see a point where there will be a hardcore of 'yo-yo' clubs and it will be very difficult for other clubs to break into that 'elite' few. Of course relegation brings it's own problems such as over paid players on long contracts and much lower revenue streams, but the money coming into clubs at PL level now will overcome a lot of that plus I think many clubs, not just us, will be insisting on wage reduction clauses in the event of relegation so that might not be such a problem. I personally think (and I'm saying this with as little bias as possible) that Rovers will struggle next season unless Venkys put in the kind of money that I doubt they will want to. And then there is FFP (whatever is going on with that anyway, is it still going?). I think there are few really bad sides in the Championship these days and that quality is going to get better and better over the coming years to the point where there will be the PL, the top third of the Championship, the rest of the Championship, with the two lower divisions miles behind. If this scenario does arrive then Rovers have done well to get promoted this season (as they surely must now) as I believe very soon teams coming up from League One will be lucky to survive.
Incidentally I really hope I am wrong with this prediction as it will kill a lot of clubs but it is just the way I see it.

I work with a couple of bstard fans who have always watched other Lancs teams when bstards are away and they reckon league 1 is the worst it has been in years hence Wigan and bstards cleaning up.
Re: Rovers so close now..
Such a pity they wont be playing Accrington Stanley in the league next season. That would have been awesome

Re: Rovers so close now..
Having watched a couple of League One games on streams this season, the quality is shocking, even at the top end.
Rovers, with their owners allowing them the wage budget they’ve got, were always going to be challenging for promotion. They should really be walking it, but Wigan have been very consistent.

It will be a tough championship next season. Some well organised established clubs being relegated who shall all be wanting and have the capabilities, of bouncing straight back.

Danny Graham has consistently failed in the Championship with much better teams than you, Mulgrew will be sold and Bradly Dack........
You'll do exactly what Wigan do (and Bolton)
That's of course unless the Venkys give Mowbray 40 million to spend. A championship striker is gonna cost you 10+ million now.........good luck with that

I’d expect a bottom half Championship, top league one to be the rightful place for them.
There will be a few teams excited about their goal rally’s next season.
