Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Is it perhaps time to recall Tom.Grezza in his match comments thought Nick was at fault for both goals
Personally I am unsure.A lot of players didnt turn up last night

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Depends whether Long got a shout for the first one although it wasn't great for either of them. I'd have to see the second one again but it looked to me like Moses had sliced it a bit and it would have been blocked/saved if he'd caught it a bit cleaner. Either way, after the season he's had, you can't drop him for one bad game.
Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Absolutely no chance should Pope be dropped, he had one bad game off the back of many great performances. He's won us way more points than the three we dropped last night. He shouldn't lose his place this season.

We dropping Tarks and Long whilst we're at it, because neither looked that outstanding last night?....

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Is that a serious question?
Drop Ward and Tark too for having absolute shockers, they won 5 in a row they’re gonna have a bad game at some stage.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
No. Even if he was at fault last night for either goal, he also made one good and one excellent save (he didn't get credit for it as we all thought Morata had just put it past the post). Anyway, I don't know what the case is that Tom's a better keeper. I don't see much difference between them but Nick's ability to kick straight and willingness to let the ball go quickly when he can give him the edge.

Start with the same team. At least they all got a bad game out of their system on the same night.

to be fair, if victor moses scores against you, you should probably be sold.

Wow - so one perceived disappointing game and you want him out of the side. As for players not turning up, no way is that the case, we were just beaten by a better team last night. Another game like last night -yes, but deserves another chance. Ward, Lennon and Wood all looked candidates for replacement last night, as well as Tarky, but for him there is no alternative option.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
No
First goal he saved it but it hit long who was trying to clear & it went in.
Second goal Moses caught the ground at the same time as the ball so it didn't go straight.
Not at fault for either goal & again made important saves.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Nick was at fault for both goals in my opinion. For the first, Long would have easily cleared the ball on his own but Pope comes and touches the ball toward Long who could do nothing. If a keeper goes for a ball, he needs to 100% claim it. Longs positioning was fine and in front of his man as he should be.
The second, I wouldn't of thought Heaton would of got beat at his near post, even if he didn't have a clear view of it. Pope definitely should of done better by his own high standards.
Having said that, Pope has kept us in games and should not be dropped this season.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
What would that do for Popes confidence? Not a chance. Dyche doesn't work like that.

No not at fault for either goal.
First is an OG.
Second he was unsighted by Ward.
Did drop a few balls but all at his feet where he collected them.
He’s owed a poor game anyway.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
2nd goal was Ward being nowhere near Moses, and being far too slow to close him down.
Very un-ward like to be fair, but still an error.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Overall Pope wasn't much different to previous games.
His distribution was no better - no worse (IMO).
He certainly made a number of good saves,(one excellent) and interceptions, and kept us in the game.
Questions could be asked about both goals, but neither were howlers.
I'm not certain Heaton would have done any better with 2nd goal. There were a few things that made it difficult for a keeper.
The first goal was just one of those things that happens to every team from time to time. We were due a bit of a cock up like that.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Keep Pope in for Stoke then transition to our number 1 for Brighton, Arsenal and Bournemouth. Heaton deserves a chance to stake a claim for England.
Pope's had his chance, give Heaton the opportunity now.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
There's a sudden rush to drop the GK who's consistently performed well all season and kept us in 7th, so Heaton can get a couple of games.
If it was the other way round there would be no demands for Heaton to be dropped to allow Pope some games, there wasn't last season.

Even though it was Long's own goal he couldn't do anything about it.CFS wrote:Sorry but I thought Kevin long played fantastic.
Ward slid in as he was anticipating a low cross.
Pope came out because he thought he could get the ball away, it was a marginal misjudgement.
Ward, Tarks and Lennon were all poor on the passing front.
Ward was slow at getting across to block Moses shot and then left Pope unsighted.

Surely we’ll be writing to the league asking to be relegated after last night’s performance.

No,definitely not. Even if he was at fault for both goals, it's just one game and it would be incredibly harsh after so many positive performances this season. The whole back line was poor yesterday.

Absolutely no way should Pope be dropped after last night. Fortunately, SD has a pretty good idea of how to pick a team
I was unfortunate enough to see The ****'s back page headline today being shared on Twitter. They used the headline of "Oh no, it's Nick Dope". They must have been waiting for any excuse to use that. They are such clever writers.
Edit: Seriously, "s c u m" isn't allowed on here?!

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
You can't be as poor as Pope was last night when there's an international on the bench.
Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
1 mistake, his first ever mistake for us and we drop him to the bench for it?? Really? talk about an ott reaction.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
He's made clangers against Man City on 2 separate occasions. Came charging out of goal for no apparent reason for one, and gave away a penalty with a reckless challenge for another.
Can't whitewash those, as people appear to try and do.

His kick to gift possession back to Chelsea, from which Moses scored, was something you'd expect to see from the kids playing at half time.

Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
If Jensen or Kiraly, or even Lee Grant, made the mistakes leading to goals which Pope made last night then this board would go into meltdown.
Re: Heaton back in goal v Stoke?
Most people have voted Pope for player of the season yet some call for him to be dropped. Tom Heaton is one of my favourite players and will always be highly regarded at Burnley.
However I do not think Pope should be dropped after 1 bad game (or even if there is several).
I do think next season, it's a clean slate and Sean should pick the best keeper, regardless of what has happened this season. Wether that's Nick or Tom.
