When will we start being a direct team?
Chelsea last night were smashing the ball up for large parts of the night and trying to get flick ons. Yet they are playing "direct football".
In the 2nd half there were Chelsea fans shouting "hoof" at us doing the same thing as the clock ticked down which seemed a little ironic.
When does a team stop playing hoof/longball and instead are known as a "direct"?
Is it when you buy players worth x million or have a manager from abroad or is it how big a club you are?

Top 6 or media darlings play direct, the rest hoof it.
I remember a goal by Utd that was from a long ball from the GK and the media were sat there chatting about the direct style of play.
Same when City do something similar.

Not a whinge - if "longball" gets us points then I'm happy. I'm more confused as to what the difference is between "longball" and "direct".Chobulous wrote:When will we stop whinging about anything and everything?

When our fans stop overreacting after a defeat against last seasons champions.

I remember that year Liverpool came close in the league with Suarez, Sterling and sturidge up top. Gerrard getting rave reviews every week for sitting deep and hitting it long. Anyone else does it its hoof ball.
Teams get reputations of it. Bolton is a prime example. Long ball fat sam. Which just isnt the case. Especially with Okocha and Djokaeaf(?) in the middle.

I have no problem with long crosses or long targeted passes but for me hoofball is when it's just kicked and its a 50:50 as to which team/player will get it.

A long pass has to go within 5 yards of it's target (player), according to the stat men.
