Avicii

Post by cricketfieldclarets » Fri Apr 20, 2018 6:43 pm

Popular dj Avicii has been found dead at 28 in Oman.

He retired from live events 2 years ago due to pressure etc. Quite shocked to hear this.

Just seen this, how sad...and only 28.

A very talented person, who had already accomplished plenty.

RIP.

I didnt either. Must be a sign of the terrible stress and pressure on people these days. Especially the younger generation. Its never been more difficult imo.

As a big EDM fan I have to admit to never really liking his music that much, but there's no denying he was a massive part of the scene and hugely influential. 28 is far far too young to die, especially if it's connected to the pressure to be a success he said he felt like he was under, it's not a price worth paying.

A lot of his problems were brought on by alcohol I believe, and probably drugs as well with the circles he'd be moving in. Personally couldn't stand his music or any of that EDM rubbish but 28 is way too young, such a waste of a young life.

Is it harder for young people now than it was a hundred years ago, when they left school at 12 years old to work 60 hours in the mill before joining the army and being shot at on the Somme? Who knows?

What are you a fan of by stating “as a big EDM fan”?

As far as I’ve ever been able to tell, EDM is just an Americanism and doesn’t actually identify a style of dance music. Calvin Harris would presumably be EDM but in the same bracket would be Sasha and Digweed (by American categorisation) which is like comparing Wigfield to Oasis.

World war is an extreme example.

But I dont think the psychological pressure and expectations on modern society and the youth in general can be underestimated. I think this sort of thing, especially with social media, mobile phones etc is going to see a huge increase in mental health issues.

Its keeping up with the joneses on steroids!

You mean when all they had was ricketts, starvation, and no old age pension, there was no pressure because everyone was starving at the same time? Well, maybe. I doubt it.

World War was an extreme example, but leaving school at 12 to work full time in the mill was the norm. Do you think we'd all be happier if we abolished mobile phones, computers, internet, TV, radio, holidays, school, social security, antibiotics, and free healthcare? No, we wouldn't.

DJ who produced music loved by millions dies at age 28, but yeah, wait a minute while I bend over backwards and stick my head up my arse, pigeonhole his music and..er...contemplate Victorian Britain and the Great War. I'm not exactly a fan of Avicii's music, but what absolute knobheads.

If I had to pick a style I’d say House and DnB mainly, but I like some of the old UK Garage stuff as well. Not massively wedded to one particular genre though, and like bits of everything. Some favourites include High Contrast, Deadmau5, Skream, Justice, Daft Punk, Booka Shade. Even went through a phase of listening to some Scandinavian synth stuff like Casiokids and Familjen. I don’t mind the umbrella term EDM.

Dsr - the problem with your mills/ rickets/ war example is that the burden of choice or competition did not fall on the young.

If I was to categorise his style of music, I would put it under absolute sh!te.

I got to know his music through my daughter more than his singles due to her love of that genre. I must admit that if I was young I would be into that as well, it's better than your standard 'pop' music by far. She's becoming a bit of a veteran of Creamfields now and she saw him live about 18 months ago, she's gutted. From the point of view of his music and more importantly his age I think it's all very sad really.

Yes, really stressful being a superstar DJ earning what he earned. Poor lad. So the alleged drug use was because of stress and not a lifestyle choice?

Mental health issues are indiscriminate of your job, lifestyle, love life - just as anyone can break a leg, a crude comparison perhaps but worthwhile in response to your ignorance. Burnley have two players in the squad - internationals, millionaires - who have publically spoken about their mental health and emotional problems. For too long archaic, traditional gender roles have created expectations, stigmas and an ingrained culture of bottling things up leading to emotionally stunted men. Take one glance at the suicide rates for men, it cannot be a coincidence. And it is to all our detriment and shame if we continue to dismiss it.

Some pretty poor comments on here from Clarinetclaret about a [much loved] bloke who has sadly and unexpectedly died early, in his twenties.

Your name suggests a] you play the clarinet for fun... b] you play the clarinet for a living. Which is it, or is it both..?

Either way because of a] and b] you enjoy making music for personal enjoyment/fulfilment or you are making a career out of your music.

- just like the late DJ/music producer then.

Your life/career paths have been pretty different but you are/were doing pretty much the same thing....you want your music to be listened to, enjoyed and respected.

Pretty much like Avicii then..?....whatever it was that he did, a lot of people enjoyed it [see link].

I really don't get your harsh comments...they completely lack any empathy for a bloke who was obviously in a dark place.

So that's the problem with Burnley's smackheads, they're all stressed out so they turn to drugs. I bet they don't get your sympathy like Avicci.

Well money or not he was just a druggie! And on a serious note when are you going to get a life? All day every day hanging around on here. You really are a sad case! Do you not get embarrassed about your lack of a real life? What a pathetic and pitiful existence you lead.

This from someone who decided to bump a thread that no one had posted in for nearly two weeks just to make himself look like a tit.

As was suggested, stay off the beer. And I mean that from the bottom of my lefty-liberal compassion-filled heart.
