Such a shame he picked up that bad injury. Is he likely to make the bench tomorrow?

I really don’t get all the negativity towards Walters on this board. He has been unfortunate with injury, but is a proven player at this level and still not too old to do a good job. I hope he recovers and really proves the doubters wrong next season. We are going to need a deeper squad if we make it into Europe and he could be a key player in that respect when it comes to squad rotation.

It's baffling - all players get injuries

Would be nice if he did - especially if we could get a good lead and bring him on for the last few minutes. Stoke fans point at the sales of Whelan, Walters and, to an extent, Bardsley as the main reason for the poor season.

There is a lot a negativity out there and it has to go somewhere! It's the reverse of when we used to think someone who wasn't playing and we'd never seen was the answer to all our problems.

Getting rid of 3 experienced professionsal is always going to leave a big hole to fill.

You may replace them physically, but every team needs a balanced mix to be successful.

Whelan had been there since 08 and Walters from 10. Apart from knowing the club inside out they would be massive in the dressing room. This could be what they have lost this year.

Jon Walters is a proven good prem player. A super addition to the squad, when fit.

The only time I have seen him for any length of time in a Burnley shirt was the friendly v PNE in July and he was the best player on the pitch by some considerable distance that night.

That’s what I was referring too (admittedly badly)
I was meaning experience of club as well as playing

Good player Walters his record speaks for itself.

Stoke in general haven't recycled their squad quick enough, they still have Crouch and Adam after they moved on the 3 experienced players mentioned.

They are now paying the price.

I think the problem is that, when a new player gets a serious injury early on, he is labelled a waste of money. Its as if he deliberately got injured, or SD should have seen this coming
It's not just this board or our supporters, it's common throughout

I wonder if Stoke might come calling to ask Walters to help lead the charge from the Championship next season?

Could be what we've gained despite Bardsley being really poor on the pitch for us. I mocked the Reid signing at the time, looking back it made sense. Dyche likes his older experienced heads around the place, I wonder how Burnley fans would react if Dyche was England boss and went with Hart over Pope in the WC squad for Hart's experience around the place. The fans on here wouldn't question anything, everybody is quick to slag Southgate though for potentially assembling a WC squad with experience in it (experience that means nothing according to fans on here but actually one core attribute to a successful Dyche side).

It’s all very well and good picking players because of their experience, but when that experience is littered with mistakes the experience becomes irrelevant.

I think that is a bit harsh on Bardsley and Walters as although they havent been great on the pitch their performances have hardly been littered with mistakes. Plus if Dyche thinks their have value to the squad despite their limitations on the pitch then who are we to question it

Really? experience in failure is just as important..... not that I think Hart has personally failed in his career. If Nick Pope has even half the career Joe Hart has had he'll be deemed a success.

Not when you keep on failing it isn’t , Hart was an embarrassment at the Euros and World Cup . He doesn’t learn by his mistakes as he’s proved time and time again this season.

or maybe Hart just isn't the keeper he once was..... experience is knowledge, it's possible Hart knows it all his body just can't perform it to the same standard. I guess people will define Hart's career on the bad spell towards the end and chose to ignore him at his peak. Think of this, is a retired world class boxer like Mike Tyson not able to pass on experience because his body can't perform to that standard any more? Is his input deemed useless because he's past his peak?

On that basis might as well take Gordon Banks

Why when they can take Hart who's been around the modern game and is still able to train. Should we have signed Maradona instead of Walters then? same logic...

A fit Walters would have been in our 18 almost every week.

It amuses me that a player who has played 7 seasons for a PL club who never finished lower that 14th place is not good enough to play for Burnley.

And in those 7 yrs he became Stoke's all time record goal scorer in the Premier league,Crouch has took that record off him this week though if he's good enough for Stoke in seven successful years in the Premier league he's more than good enough for us, some people eh? They just don't get it!

The only negativity I can think of on here is the understandable frustration that he has been of no use to us as a member of the first team squad this season. I don't think anyone has questioned his ability.

I remember someone calling Walters a 'clogger'when we signed him and before he had played a game for us.

Following his interview regrading the effect that his mum's death had upon him then I won't hear a bad word against him.

If he fails to make a positive appearance for Burnley then so be it, he'll always be a good bloke in my eyes.

To me it is no coincidence that Barnes has shown such improvement this season, there is a lot of Walters in what he does, and he has improved in all areas including his own discipline, he so much less of a liability and much more effective tactical player
