2018 World Snooker Championship

Post by FactualFrank » Sat Apr 21, 2018 9:42 am

It kicks off from 10am on BBC1. 17 days of wonderful snooker to chill out to and watch.

Ronnie is the favourite but he'll have to play better than he did in the China open.

I’d like to see Kyren Wilson win it after coming so close in the masters.

i'll stick my neck out and say ding will be the best player never to win the world title.

i reckon this will be the year trump will finally realise his potential and be world champion.

I think you'll find that whether Ding wins it or not, the greatest player never to win it will be this fella right here...

Joe Perry is no pushover and didn't think this would be a walk in the park for Selby, but 8-2! Wow.
And with Ronnie not looking great, it could be the two favourites both out in the first round. I don't recollect that happening before.

I remember It happened in 1982.

Knowles beat 1st seed & favourite Steve Davis 10-1
White beat 2nd seed & 2nd favourite Thorburn 10-4

3rd seed Griffiths also lost in 1st round to Willie Thorne,10-6.

Well done Joe Perry. Fully deserved, and with Ronnie on the edge of going out, this could be one of the most surprising Championships in recent years.

Ronnie vs Ali Carter on this morning and a good match so far. Chess-like first frame, sublime second from Ronnie and now in the third at 1-1.

I don't think they're exactly the best of friends either.

That screw back by Ronnie with opposite sizzle on it to come off the cush, when he'd got on the wrong side of the black was just a Homer Simpson salivating moment.

I'm watching this whilst listening to Burnley.

O'Sullivan and Carter nearly came to blows. Never seen that before.

As Ronnie went to sit down after his shot, they banged into eachother and Ronnie said something like, "Stop being angry", then a few words were spoken to eachother and the referee basically asked them to focus on the game.

Carter now 12-9 up, with 1 remaining to go through and beat Ronnie for the very first time.

Ali Carter wins 13-9 and is through and very much deserved too, especially after what he's had to go through over the last few years with his health. I'm normally a Ronnie fan, but wanted Carter to win this one.

i would never tire of punching ronnie o'sullivan.

i reckon a couple of weeks in a real job would have that mummy's boy in tears.

carter is also a knob but at least he's not a bully.

i'm glad he won.

I turned it over about 20 minutes ago as I've been out all day, to find myself saying, "What the..." - all the reds in the bottom right hand corner of the table in the Trump match. I don't remember the last time it looked anything like that! An agreed re-rack, as expected.

As you say, Ding could go all the way, but I think Higgins is currently in the best form.

I was thinking the same thing when Higgins was down against Trump. But he's come back very well and it could be a cracking final session this evening.

Higgins goes 12-11 up been a great couple of frames from him. Trump in the balls but nothing easy at this stage, hoping for a decider.

Absolutely awesome performance from Higgins tonight. 11-9 down after a decider on the black...immediately wiped from the memory and goes on to win 4 out of last five to go through 13-12.

The romantic in me would love to see a Williams - Higgins final.

The way Higgins played in that deciding frame was awesome - I csn’t think of a player who could have beat him when he’s playing like that

Awesome from Higgins got a bit of the old strongjaw he has.The 4 left are all really likeable fellas so it will be a popular winner regardless. You would think on form it be Higgins v hawkins final but be a twist yet I reckon.Tournament really starts now looking forward to the weekend.

Higgins was impressive last night, must be one of the mentally strongest sportsmen. The higher the pressure, the better his game gets which seems unnatural.

Higgins should never been allowed to play competitive snooker again after cheating.
