Ampadu tribunal result
Chelsea signed Ethan Ampadu from Exeter last summer. He was still short of his 17th birthday at the time but Exeter felt they should get more money for him than Chelsea offered so it went to a tribunal.
The player has already gone on to make his Premier League debut, albeit for under a quarter of an hour in one game, and has also played in three FA Cup ties for Chelsea. He'd previously made 8 League Two appearances for Exeter.
The tribunal said Chelsea must pay
£850,000 - initial compensation feel
Plus
£450,000 - based on having played five games for Chelsea and winning a full international cap
Plus
£250,000 - when he's played 10,20,30, 40, 50 games for Chelsea
Plus
20% sell on clause
So, all in all, Exeter will get no more than £2,300,000 and that's if he becomes an international and plays over 50 games for Chelsea.

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
Not a lot of money for Chelsea but a bit of a windfall for Exeter I would imagine.

Good result for Exeter I'm assuming?
I don't know what they were offered originally.

At the age he moved, they would not be able to demonstrate that they 'created a super footballer. Development at 17 is embryonic.

He's far to injury prone to hit those.

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
If chelsea sold him for 25 million theyd get another 5m. So its not strictly true they will only get 2.5m
Its wrong how clubs can just poach kids but I dont know what the solution is. Theirs a kid derby released who cant play for another pro club because the minute he does said club even if league 2 will have to pay derby an enourmous sum of money (relatively speaking) so nobody will take a chance on him.
The FA need to do something to stop instances like that. But clubs dont care once theyve deemed a kid not good enough.
Perhaps their should be a limit on number of players. Or centralised contracts for young english kids with an nba system of drafting kids in, i dont know.

Firstly, I was incorrect in suggesting it was dealt with over two years ago - it will be two years next Saturday.Sidney1st wrote:I'm guessing some of those payments were appearance based...

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
The kid from Derby keeps moving clubs every other year from what I've read, Derby paid a fee for him I think?
Yet the club is apparently at fault for protecting themselves.

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
It works both ways doesn’t it?
Clubs can happily bin players off yet cry when bigger clubs take them.
Potentially £2m for someone who’s played 8 times in League 2 is fantastic surely?

The kid who's stuck in limbo after Derby, here's the article about him.
Derby were his 4th club.

As i say its a didficult one. Not sure how youd best manage that. But at the end of the day hes a kid and should be able to move on freely.Sidney1st wrote:The kid from Derby keeps moving clubs every other year from what I've read, Derby paid a fee for him I think?

He was at Derby two years and binned them off, like he did his previous 3 clubs.
He's been at some good academies but he's possibly getting bad advice from his family or someone else.
All Derby are doing is protecting their outlay, which at just over £100k doesn't sound like much really.

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
I understand that. But the lads a kid. Or was. Regardless of what the club have invested (and perhaps they shouldve known after 3 previous moves) hes a kid. He should be allowed to go where he wants. Personally think it stinks that they can effectiveky end his future career. While i understand theyve spent money on him you win some you lose some.

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
Maybe they thought he'd settle down, he must have something about him.
Maybe his parents need to stop moving him around, because Villa and Derby have a rep for giving young players a chance yet he's stated he didn't feel his career was progressing at the rate he wanted it.
Whilst I do feel some sympathy for him, it's a situation that he's helped make.

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
You can’t really say it’s a good or bad deal for Exeter until Chelsea sell him. But I would say a few million quid for somebody unproven who may or may not make it with a 20% protection if he does in an ever inflating market is a pretty good deal. The only pitfall if he is any good is he plays his entire career at Chelsea but how often does that happen?

Re: Ampadu tribunal result
I think the truth of it might be in why he wasn't able to just keep plugging away at Derby after a move failed

Not really. He was 14 when he went to United. He turned out to have very bad injuries that have damaged his career.KRBFC wrote:Similar to the John Cofie deal? we got £1M for him didn't we? turned out to be a bag of crap and now plays in Ireland for Derry

Where did we actually get him from? Wikipedia says he arrived in 2007 but joined United in 2007. 11 career goals in 8 years for him, I wonder how good he actually looked for us to persuade all the big boys to take interest.ClaretTony wrote:Not really. Re: Ampadu tribunal result
He was spotted in Germany, his dad was on an army base there. Once he was at Burnley, we didn't persuade the big boys to take an interest. We fought tooth and nail to keep him but his dad was pushing him towards Liverpool mainly although it was United he finished up. But for the back injury, who knows how good he might have been.KRBFC wrote:Where did we actually get him from? Yeah I think it's bad punctuation because I type like I'd say it. It should read.....ClaretTony wrote:You said: "I wonder how good he actually looked for us to persuade all the big boys to take interest."

What with poor maths and lack of punctuation, is it any wonder the Country is in a mess.
