World Class IF
Does this describe most of our players?
Pope would be world world class if he could kick the ball.
Barnes would be world class if he didn't give away petty fouls.
Westwood would be world class if doing the boring work was appreciated.
No complaints mind, they're little weaknesses ensure they're playing for Burnley and not Real Madrid.

Re: World Class IF
Our players would be world class if they were significantly better! To suggest Barnes would be world class if he didn’t give away fouls is stretching it a lot!!

Re: World Class IF
Willie Irvine would be world class if he wasn't 74 years old.
Re: World Class IF
Would wood be world class if he scored in every half of football he played.
Barnes would be would be world class if he was 7 foot tall, could do 50 metres in 5 seconds and scored with every header he won.
Mee would be world class if all centre backs had to have at least 50% of their surname containing vowels.

....but at 66.66% Mee's a winner!

Our players are a long long way from world class BUT the same could be said about plenty of players from the top 6 teams, there are only a handful of such players in the world

Dyche...... world class for Burnley and any other club that is prepared to give our beloved maestro the time to become so, hopefully none of the “top six” will deign to do so!

I think most Prem players fall into this bracket. Which is why they aren't World Class.

Re: World Class IF
There is international quality, then there is World Class... you don’t get too see many world class players at Turf Moor.
Case in point being Eden Hazard. He came off the bench and ran us ragged. There isnt a player in Burnley’s squad even close to lacing his boots

Problem is defining what World Class actually means.
Iran qualified for the World Cup and I dare say any of our players would get into Iran's side...

This.
World class is a title dished out far to often to a number of players, certainly by some on here, despite them not being so when compared to actual world class players.
Re: World Class IF
I reckon if you want a definition then 'world class' has to mean they'd get into any squad in the world, so like the top 18 (11 plus subs) in the world essentially. People say 'world class' a lot but in the PL this year I'd say the only world class players would be De Gea, De Bruyne, Kane, possibly Hazard, maybe Hazard, probably Kante?

Re: World Class IF
World Class to me means they would make the World 11. They would make the best team possible if you could select any player. Now that doesn't mean only 11, because some positions are so close that a handful of players could make it, and it's too close to call. But that's my definition.

Hazard if he likes his manager, if he doesn't like him then he's not going to make the cut.lucs86 wrote:I reckon if you want a definition then 'world class' has to mean they'd get into any squad in the world, so like the top 18 (11 plus subs) in the world essentially. Re: World Class IF
Mo Salah would make the World 11. You're currently talking a front 3 of Ronaldo, Messi, Salah. But like I've mentioned, there are some players who would be on the brink and so I'd also class them in the same bracket. Harry Kane for instance. But he's the only English player I'd put anywhere near the world 11.
Re: World Class IF
I'm not sure if Salah isn't a bit of a flash in the pan. It seems like anything remotely near him ends up in the net at the moment, everything he tries comes off. I'm thinking next season he hits the post a bit more, loses his flow a bit and he settles into being a top PL player, but not bothering the world class bracket. Need to see if he can sustain it a bit longer.

Re: World Class IF
He was absolutely superb at Roma and I remember watching him thinking I'd like to see him given a chance in the Prem, which didn't really happen at Chelsea. Certainly no flash in the pan if you watch football outside the Premier League.lucs86 wrote:I'm not sure if Salah isn't a bit of a flash in the pan. Re: World Class IF
I know he impressed at Roma, but it was Roma. Serie A is improving but it's a level down from the PL (last season especially). I need to see him do it for another half season minimum before I'm chucking him in with Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, Kane. He's on the maybe list for now with M'Bappe, Hazard, Sane, Suarez, Mertens, Lewandowski, JBG and many others.DustyBawls wrote:He was absolutely superb at Roma and I remember watching him thinking I'd like to see him given a chance in the Prem, which didn't really happen at Chelsea. Re: World Class IF
If he remains at Liverpool next season, he'll do it again. I can assure you of that. And he doesn't even play a striker, he's a winger. The goals to game ratio is amazing given he's not actually a striker.lucs86 wrote:I know he impressed at Roma, but it was Roma.
