Leeds tour of Myanmar
But of a fuss about this one and quite right too. Sport should be above politics but there are some people who are so abhorrent that no-one should have any dealings with them. Even by association, your name is dragged into the gutter.
Myanmar, what were you thinking?

Having worked with guys who lost family in the 'ethnic cleansing' I can not condone this on any level!

Can't imagine they'll get much value out of a tour of Burma.

Seems like his business interests take priority over the "ethnic cleansing" ..The club is an absolute disgrace if they are going to go on a tour of Myanmar..ClaretDiver wrote:Having worked with guys who lost family in the 'ethnic cleansing' I can not condone this on any level!

If you were told that a British club was doing this, everyone knows who it would be.

The problem is that, throughout SE Asia English football is big business....the owner is obviously playing on this....strange decision given the Foreign Office have travel warnings for the area.Rowls wrote:Can't imagine they'll get much value out of a tour of Burma.
We used to do Visa runs to the Myanmar border, never truly felt safe. Given Aung Sun Suu Kyi was under house arrest for so long and then does what she did give ZERO credibility to her as a leader.
My best mate in Thailand, Saan, lost his mother and 2 brothers to this regime!
Re: Leeds tour of Myanmar
An unfortunate tour. Demonstrates that these foreign owners just see our clubs are business vehicles. Whatever happened to British football?

Hope they take Norman Hunter so that he can "do a job" on somebody (hopefully inbounds).

Football is about money and nothing else. Just look at the salves who are building the World Cup in Qatar. Doesn’t matter how many lives are lost in the eyes of the people that run the game if they make money out of it it’s all worth it.

Re: Leeds tour of Myanmar
The Shadow Sports Minister has written to them about it (letter below). I can’t believe they would be so stupid to arrange this.

If the second paragraph of the letter is true, bearing in mind the outrages in Syria, how on earth is it not getting more attention?

It certainly is true! Living in Thailand we had a lot of Burmese staff working for us...I have witnessed pictures of the atrocities first hand from my friends.Bordeauxclaret wrote:If the second paragraph of the letter is true, bearing in mind the outrages in Syria, how on earth is it not getting more attention?

I wasn't aware of the specific event she mentions, but the news has been pretty widespread regarding Aung Sun Suu Kyi's regime over the last year or so.Bordeauxclaret wrote:If the second paragraph of the letter is true, bearing in mind the outrages in Syria, how on earth is it not getting more attention?

Yes she was under house arrest for many years, when her party won the election she could not take power as she was married to a foreigner so she put a puppet in! She is aligned with the military....randomclaret2 wrote:Aung Sun Suy Kyi...isnt she the woman we were all supposed to fawn over not so long ago ?

The climate is terrible. Extremely hot and humid. Overnight "lows" of 30C. with 90% humidity. Now that's a "repressive" regime.

Andrea Radrizzani says Leeds will "share the famous values and ethos of Leeds United" in Myanmar.
DL have "famous values and ethos"? Have I missed a trick here?

Dropped the missus off at Manchester airport today and there were about 20 Leeds fans seemingly getting ready to board a flight to Myanmar!

The situation in Myanmar is very complex, evidently beyond the comprehension of the shadow sports minister.
The democratic forces have been very naive in their response to the crisis in Rakhine province, but failure to support the democrats will certainly lead to resumption of power by the kleptocratic military which would be a disaster for the majority of people in Myanmar including the Rohingya.
I despise DD Leeds, not least for knobbling Frank Casper, but I support their pre-season trip.
I’d like to expand the Clarets fan base in Myanmar.
