Re: The Duck
Good read - although I thought it was an old article at first as it talks about visiting Turf Moor so much, I thought it was from the home game earlier in season

Re: The Duck
An excellent testimony of the club, its staff and, yes, even the town.

Re: The Duck
Enjoyed that, there are massive similarities between the 2 towns and clubs, which is a good lesson in how it COULD go wrong in the future. I hated Pullis football, yet the Stoke fans I know still love him, and hated Hughes.

Well written piece with a great if slightly starry eyed view of our great club.

Re: The Duck
What a nice chap and very knowledgeable and fair. I suggest he moves away from The Falcon and strolls to the New Brewm next time he's in town and he can re engage with a proper pub.

Re: The Duck
The last paragraph sums it up for me. As an exiled Claret, I feel as if some of those still in Burnley don't truly appreciate how lucky they are to have a Premier League club (could be any division for that matter) on their doorstep, that represents their town.

Re: The Duck
We had to be nearly extinct as a club before a large portion of Burnley people realised what they were going to lose. The time I was in the military coincided with the dark years of pre 1987. I attended games home and away when I could, unlike some people I knew who lived within a couple of miles of Turf Moor. It's not unusual to take things for granted when they're on your doorstep.Foshiznik wrote:The last paragraph sums it up for me. Re: The Duck
True. It just resonates with me as I have never lived in Burnley. I would love to live a couple of miles from the club I support.ten bellies wrote:We had to be nearly extinct as a club before a large portion of Burnley people realised what they were going to lose. Wonder if he knows Dave Burnley? He's from that way isn't he? He may even give him a lift for Burnley v Stoke games!

This quote says it all about our team and their approach: “ But unlike so many teams who come to ST4, there was no-one pretending to be on their mobile, no refusal of a photo or autograph at all”.

Re: The Duck
Yeah, agree about the similarities and I have often wondered in the past if Stoke are gambling too much --> Having established themselves for a couple of seasons in the Prem they seemed to sign bigger players on bigger wages and I always wondered if they would have major problems financially if they got relegated, I suppose now we will find out.Colburn_Claret wrote:Enjoyed that, there are massive similarities between the 2 towns and clubs, which is a good lesson in how it COULD go wrong in the future. On Pulis, I didn't mind him, thought that he received far too much unfair criticism. Their style wasn't so bad when they first came up but there was so much attention to Rory Delap's long throw! They moved on from that under Pulis when they had the resources but he has a been stuck with a reputation ever since.
Good article, though, very nice.
Re: The Duck
Great article and I agree with his observation about the half hearted "going down" chants. I'd much rather be playing Stoke next season than Swansea or Southampton particularly since it is no longer anything like as threatening as it was pre premier league and we have such a great record at the Bet365.

I would have agreed with you, had Pulis not been so negative in his tactics at WBA.the_fat_shearer wrote:Yeah, agree about the similarities and I have often wondered in the past if Stoke are gambling too much --> Having established themselves for a couple of seasons in the Prem they seemed to sign bigger players on bigger wages and I always wondered if they would have major problems financially if they got relegated, I suppose now we will find out.
