The return of ABBA

Post by jdrobbo » Fri Apr 27, 2018 4:48 pm

No, not the penalty shootout system, the return of ABBA, one of the most successful groups of all time.

Fantastic to hear that they've already recorded two new songs and even though things will never be what they were, this reunion just fees right and good for music in general.

So, to a thread of ABBA favourites....

I seem to remember Alan Shearer trying to squeeze in as many ABBA song titles as he could into an interview once.

Edit - It was perhaps this that I was thinking of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI__iH8AIKE" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (England's World Cup 98 squad)

ABBA took the idea of naming their band after the initial of each members Christian names from a mid 70's Swedish punk band starring Curt, Ulrika, Noleen and Tomas.

Fantastic news, been a fan of theirs for as long I remember.

'Fernando' was played at my mum's funeral, so it's a bit of good/bad whenever I hear it. Super Trouper and The Winner Takes it All (written by Bjorn after he split with Agnetha), two of my faves.

settting aside the blow up doll imagery, ABBA are s***, no doubting the catchy tune elements, but nowadays they are in the realm of fat middle aged women and gay culture.
Berks like gary barlow grovel in the slime to associate himself with these ageing icons.
The horrendous musical was the stuff of vomit production.
as an act, they relied heavily on gigantic orchestration, not just 4 swedes, but a massive musical production number.
The two blokes were amaterurish at best, i personally detest them, but always fancied the blonde woman.

Once after watching/overdosing on the Eurovision Song Contest and whilst in a deep sleep I dreamt I made passionate love to the blond one out of ABBA

Why oh why couldn't it have been his wife Anni-Frid who was the subject of the dream :D

Benny and Björn were Claret's fans, once attended the Turf in the 70's apparently. (cannot back up this fact but was told this by a mate).

No seriously they were great, my eldest son listens to them a lot - should I be worried?
