Matt Ryan
From the 7th minute went for a drink from his bottle every time the ball went out for a goal kick. This is the referees responsibility and he should have clamped down on it early.

Re: Matt Ryan
Refs only add meaningful time on in the second half.
We do similar only less obvious.

I’d say it’s a bit rich to complain about time wasting by goalkeepers, Pope is terrible and not even subtle about it.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Refs only add meaningful time on in the second half.

No he's not. it just takes him longer than others to get up, position a ball and kick the mud out of his boots!!!!1fatclaret wrote:I’d say it’s a bit rich to complain about time wasting by goalkeepers, Pope is terrible and not even subtle about it.
Honeslty, some people just have it in for our players!

Re: Matt Ryan
No argument about Pope time wasting but the way he strolled to the right side of his goal and then went off to get the ball before taking his kick on the left side proper ticked me off.

He’s an Aussie and won’t be used to balmy spring English afternoons like today so I think he can be excused for remaining hydrated.

Re: Matt Ryan
If we had another 90 mins yesterday we still would not have scored. Both wingers were MIA along with Wood & Vokes. Will prob be the same type of result against Eddies team.
Re: Matt Ryan
We had this guy on trial years ago I think
Re: Matt Ryan
I don’t blame Matt Ryan. It’s the refs that have no control over the players and just let them get away with it.
It’s never talked about in the media because people watching on tv you don’t notice it with replays being shown. It’s only the fans at stadiums who loose out.

Re: Matt Ryan
Your nearly right, he actually had 2 bottles and had a drink from both before he managed to get the game going.piston broke wrote:From the 7th minute went for a drink from his bottle every time the ball went out for a goal kick. Re: Matt Ryan
I think we've nailed time wasting to the same level as our fellow premier league teams if we are being fair.
Its annoying, but as we do it as well its not really something that I feel we can complain about.

Edited post as it wasn't supposed to encourage moaning at our players.

Three times - at Liverpool, Manchester United and West Brom.Juan Tanamera wrote:Pope's already been booked for time wasting hasn't he?
To be honest, didn't spot anything from Mat Ryan yesterday but we are very much in the glass house when it comes to time wasting.
Very disappointing if anyone is moaning about our tactics or players given what we've achieved.Quickenthetempo wrote:Nearly 100 minutes of football is plenty of time to score a goal.
It's our tactics and players you should moan about.
Re: Matt Ryan
Have you noticed how far Pope leaves his drink and towel from the goal? This seems to be so he can waste more time when needed.1fatclaret wrote:I’d say it’s a bit rich to complain about time wasting by goalkeepers, Pope is terrible and not even subtle about it.
Re: Matt Ryan
But - seriously - when you look at the effort that goes in to VAR - why, oh, why do we not see some simple steps taken to sort the time wasting out. It would be so easy.
But, as a poster above suggests - tv likes it so they can show replays and inane shots of managers.

Re: Matt Ryan
Take the team names names away from the game and put the same instances for Burnley away at Man C, Liverpool , Chelsea etc and is put my mortgage on the visiting GK getting booked.
Because it's Brighton at Burnley the normal procedures go out of the window

Re: Matt Ryan
I haven't seen a Burnley keeper waste as much time as Pope.
Other than one incident, where it was the outfield players messing about before leaving it for him, I didn't even notice Ryan doing it yesterday.
Got to mention his claw away in the goalmouth scramble though, that was top goalkeeping.

Re: Matt Ryan
You’re not old enough to remember the time wasting master Alan Stevenson. We used to joke that he could waste 15 out of the last 10 minutes if we were in front.Walton wrote:I haven't seen a Burnley keeper waste as much time as Pope.

Re: Matt Ryan
Not sure there’s any moral high ground to seek here. Pope is a terrible time waster !

Maybe he was thirsty

Am I correct that we had Mat Ryan on trial 10 years ago? any reason we didn't sign him?ClaretTony wrote:Three times - at Liverpool, Manchester United and West Brom.

Re: Matt Ryan
That was the strange summer for goalkeepers. We agreed deals for both Dan Nizic & Nick Liversedge but they didn’t come into effect for a year.Pearcey wrote:https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/eng ... 217zf.html
