I kind of agree that someone doing blatant monkey chants would be called out by someone, if not at the actual game then certainly on here or other social media platforms.

But it two different phone callers to two different radio stations (and those are the two that got through)

When did the "town full of racists" chants start? It was such a forgettable game that I can't remember if it was straight after the booing started or after a while.

If it was after a while, that would suggest that more than one Brighton fan heard something (and possibly misheard as well, like most of us think Bong did).

But it does seem pretty unlikely to be honest, as those of us that have been around long enough haven't heard anything like that since the 4th Division days.

I am in the JHU Block 3 and the BHA fans in response to booing sung "Town full of racists", the CFS responded by singing Town full of homosexuals or words to that effect. From then on every time BHA fans sang town full of racists the responding song was sung.

It was right at the beginning of the game wihtinnfirst 5mins

Some of us booed Bong followed by “He’s one of our own” for Jay
Some of the BHA fans chanted “You’re just a town full of racists”
Some of our fans chanted “You’re just a town full of benders”

Then other than the ongoing booing of Bong, that was about it

I can honestly say I haven't heard monkey chants at the Turf since about 1989 and I've not missed many games.

If anyone is stuck in the past, it's Brighton's stereotypes of people from working class northern towns.

Late in the 2nd half, AS CLEAR AS DAY on the TV, you could hear some troglodyte (presumably in the Longside) shouting out "you smelly b*stard!" No racist, just moronic and embarrassing as was the booing.

The ‘We are Brighton’ website are even making up chants sung. The ‘no one likes us’ apparently sounds like ‘we are racist’ to southern ears.

I shouldn't be surprised at the response to me hearing a racist word. A lengthy thread on this messageboard showed that a majority of people loved gollywogs and couldn't see how they were racist, and if you report racist words you hear you get booed by thousands

If you heard it, then you need to report it.

I'm sure that one thing we all want on here is no racists at the turf giving our town bad publicity just when we should be reveling in everyone thinking we are ace.

By not reporting what you heard makes you just as culpable as those who utter the word. You must report it as it will provide our club to investigate the incident and have it on record.

I don't see what reporting it now will gain.

The person who said it was in the back block of the CFS (I'm near the back of the middle block).

If anyone else heard it and could identify who said it, post here and at least then there is someone to corroborate it.

Yes, behind me, I'd say the first 5 rows of the back block, rows AA-EE say.

The group I suspect has got form for shouting distasteful things, and always rush to the away fans whenever we score. One of them looks like a ratboy.

I don't think you didn't hear it UTB, because its perfectly possible.

And I get that you don't want to report it if you are not sure where it came from.

Quite a lot of posters on here sit in the CF so it's very probable that someone else heard it as well.

Considering you heard it from 5 rows away then i'm quite sure there will be others who can attest to hearing it also. As LC says, a lot of people on here sit in the CFS, myself included so if anyone else heard it please do speak up.

I don't think racist words are tolerated anymore and anyone who said anything would soon be pulled up certainly where I sit. Chanting ' a town full of racists' and ' town full of benders' is just as bad as each other when clearly neither is true. The sooner it blows over the better.
