Long growing in confidence

Post by Always a fan » Tue May 01, 2018 5:41 pm

Just reading the following link and just goes to show how patience pays off and can't help but agree when long says he is growing in confidence with the more games he plays. Really has improved game by game and again with a MOM performance at the weekend. Great to see the lad doing well at last. God knows how frustrating it must be.

Has more than answered his critics this season. Many were demanding we sign a CB last summer, me included. That loan spell a few years ago at Barnsley obviously did him good and has not looked out of place as a PL defender. Another of the nice surprises of the season.

Carries a goal threat also, close to another on Saturday. Great back up to have.

One of my favourite players this year, he's been so patient and virtually everyone had written him off. Dyche however has long maintained he had faith in him and he has shown why in the latter part of this brilliant season

It is almost like Dyche knew a bit more about him having worked with him every day than those he seem to be unable to mention his name without saying he isn't good enough even to be back up.

Was going to use this line and to be fair to me, I'm only what? 15 hours behind you.

as with any player, its all about games.

i always thought he was a decent centre half but he had so few runs in the team he never really had a chance to settle down and a few mistakes led to him being roundly criticised.

really pleased for him that he's showing what a good player he is. that said, its slightly to the detriment of tarkowski who's game suffers from being on the left side.

Long really has progressed under Dyche and his Coaching staff. If Mee goes like I expect, I would expect him to start along side Tarks next season no matter who we bring in

Still would be 3rd or 4th choice for me .

Go back and watch the spurs game again to see why.

A very pleasant surprise and wonderful for player and club. However we absolutely need a minimum of 4 proper cbs.

I'd be disappointed if that was the case. He's surprised me in his ability to fill in this season and he is solid, especially in the air, but his distribution is pretty poor and he has a tendency to dive in a bit.

I'd also say it's no coincidence that Tarkowski has had some of his poorest games having to accommodate Long alongside him. If Mee did go I'd want us to replace him with a defender who is capable of playing on the left.

I agree Aggi but that is not the Dyche way. He will give Long enough game time to either hang himself or cement his place in the team.
Everyone gets a chance with Dyche, that is why we have been so successful

As well as he’s done, if Mee goes I would hope we bring in another centre back to start with Tarkowski.

Agree done very well filling in for Mee but should Mee leave be hoping we’d be spending money on a new centre half.

He's looked more assured than Tarky in the last two or three games. In fairness Tarky never looks as comfortable on the left side. Long has been very good though and I think he'll get better with more games... something he'll hopefully get next season in the Europa League and League Cup for example.

I am chuffed for Long and would add that we need to bring in a left sided centre back as cover for Mee as a priority. Tarks doesn't look as composed in the left sided centre back slot. As it stands at the moment we have 3 very capable Centre Backs one more is a priority, presuming of course Ben stays.

I like long he's done well when he's come in, if we want to make another step up we need better.
