Joe Bryan £6m
Re: Joe Bryan £6m
Interesting the window opens earlier this year on May 17th, I think that's even before the Play Off Finals have been played. It closes before the PL games start. It will be a mad panic after the World Cup.

Although to be fair to Stephen Ward I don't think Robertson would have offered us much more, if anything this season, as Ward has played that well.ashtonlongsider wrote:Think SD has a certain type of left back in mind. He very nearly signed Andy Robertson from Hull last summer. That would have been some coup and the lads going to be playing in a Champions League final later this month.

Yeah but besides that........aggi wrote:Except that Mee had already spent a reasonable amount of his career playing as a centre-back (more than he'd played left-back) whereas Taylor has never played centre back.
Re: Joe Bryan £6m to Burnley
Just appeared on News now that it is believed Mr Dyche has won the say and we will sign Joe Bryan for the £6m first reported.

Bristol paper...
Bristol City have targeted Southampton defender Sam McQueen as a replacement for Burnley-bound Joe Bryan.
The Robins full-back is poised to join the Clarets for around £6m according to the Mirror and the same report has revealed that Lee Johnson sees McQueen as the ideal replacement.

It’s not that weird.
Doesn’t Ward only has a year left on his contract?
He could easily be off.
We’d have 2 quality replacements in Taylor and Bryan.

Not with Burnley. The press that's been mentioned are usually spot on.claretspice wrote:I think "reported in the press" is a stretch isn't it? I've only seen it suggested by HITC and I'm not sure they are even pretending it's based on any intelligence.

This referred to the suggestion Bryan would automatically signal the end for Taylor, not the possibility of Bryan signing, which certainly appears to have foundation.FactualFrank wrote:Not with Burnley. The press that's been mentioned are usually spot on.

I know it's only TeamTalk but they are pushing his signing as a done deal in an "exclusive".

Re: Joe Bryan £6m
Couple of reports suggest this is nearly a done deal or has actually been completed:

Personally, I don't necessarily see it as the end for Charlie Taylor. Dyche has shown that he will buy players he believes have the necessary ability rather panic-buy somebody just for a position we need cover.
We saw it in his first season in charge when we had only 2 proper strikers, Vokes and Ings. We did get Ryan Noble in on an extended trial but there was no panicky "Gifton Noel-Williams" type of signing .
It worked for him that season. Arguably we came undone the next season when Marney got injured and we hadn't bought anyone to provide the same level of cover.
And there are other examples of us bringing in more than one player to cover a single position. For example. we brought in Paul Robinson when we already had Heaton and Pope in the squad.
So Dyche's thinking in terms of bring in players seems very consistent to me. It isn't a case of him asking a single question like 'do we need cover in this position?' or 'does this player improve the squad?' it is a combination of both these questions but the factor of whether the player improves the squad or not is always the most important consideration.
I suspect that if we do get Joe Bryan then Dyche would simply like the two "spare" left backs to compete for their places. Whether we could keep them both happy enough to stay in the squad is a different scenario and Taylor may leave but I just suspect Dyche would be happy to keep him and see how he responds to the competition.

Yep that's the one....not sure what happened to him this season though.
I though Southampton looked really poor when we played them on Turf....defo 2 points thrown away by us.

LB. Have scrolled a few articles to see if the word 'winger' is used anywhere and it isnt, so assume it's now 3 x players into 1 x LB spot.Wile E Coyote wrote:positionally ?

Just had a look on a Bristol City forum and the general consensus was that he is better on the wing than at LB. There were also a few comments saying he played very well in CM when played there on the rare occasion.
Also saying that losing Bobby Reid would be the biggest blow. What do we think to a double deal? He could offer us something different up front/number 10 role.

Living down in sleepy Somerzzet, I'm surrounded by CIty fans who are genuinely gutted at this. Looks to me to have everything to be a very effective wing back. Bobby Reid will also go if a prem team comes in for him - swap him with Wells?

Bristol City fan in peace.
Firstly, if you do land JB for the rumoured £6mill then it's undoubtedly a good bit of business for you guys, and he will leave with the best wishes of the majority of our fans. Joe has consistently improved over the years and deserves a shot at the highest level - most of our fans are resigned to the fact that Lee Johnson is a fraud, so in all likelihood he will not get that experience with us, so good luck to him.
In the first part of the season JB was one of the key players in our attacking style of play - he has a great left foot, and as the goal against MU in the Carabao proved, has a great eye for goal. The 2nd half of the season he has been poor and looked totally dis-interested (along with many others!) so the suggestion would be his head was turned at Xmas.
He is a Bristol lad, very grounded and comes from a good family who will always keep his feet on the ground. No-one at BCFC can begrudge him the shot at the PL, and I'm glad it looks like it'll be with you guys as opposed to plenty of others.
Good luck, and I really hope JB does well for you.

Sean Dyche played for us and is held in high esteem - whether there are any ongoing connections between the 2 clubs who knows.
