Best save I have ever seen - live
Chris Pearce, Leyland Daf Trophy v Bradford City away. CP threw himself to make a full length save in the bottom right hand corner (as you face the goal), the ball came out to the edge of our area and was hit into the opposite corner, ie top left - CP leapt up from the ground and somehow got right up and across to tip it away.
Anyone else remember it? And if you do, do you agree that it's the best save you have ever seen?

Re: Best save I have ever seen - live
I was there that night and Pearce certainly had the best game oh his life I remember that. Unfortunately I don`t remember any of the individual saves.
Did not we get a completely undeserved 1-0 win with Futcher notching in customary cool fashion ?
Best save i have seen live from a Burnley keeper has to be Heaton v Zlatan at Old Trafford in the 0-0 draw...the more I saw that save repeated on TV the more I do not understand how it did not cause him an injury it was hit with that much ferocity

Alan Stevenson against Villa F.A. Cup 5th round 1974. He was superhuman about fifty times.

For me, Tom's save from Charlie Austin's header at Southampton last season. What a save that was.

Re: Best save I have ever seen - live
The one most memorable to me is quite recent when we played down at Southampton last season. It was quite early in the game and Charlie Austin powered a header towards the bottom right corner (left from where I was sat in the away end) and how Heaton got down and pushed it round the post was extraordinary. On TV didn't do it enough justice because live it was unbelievable.
The Zlatan one was also amazing but from the other end it didn't have the same appeal as the Southampton one.
Edit: Beat me to it PTW!

Loads over the years, but the one by Ederson (city) from Aaron Lennon this season was quite brilliant.
Not from a Claret, of course, but stunning, nonetheless.

I have to agree. Toms at OT last season was amazing, I also remember Nick the Greek pulling off a brilliant save from a header in injury time in the cricket field end, cant remember game though.ElectroClaret wrote:Loads over the years, but the one by Ederson (city) from Aaron Lennon this season was quite brilliant.

Agreed, I was there and sat right in line with it, It was a goal all day, absolutely no right to make that save. Austin's face said it all. The finest save I have seen so close up.paulus the woodgnome wrote:For me, Tom's save from Charlie Austin's header at Southampton last season. What a save that was.
The save made the trip worth while.

Marlon Beresfords save was a beauty away at York in the FA cup
I had a chat to him about it in the players lounge after a game against Stockport some time after
It was a tremendous save and he remembered making it

Alan Stevenson from Peter Cormack, in front of the Kop, in the FA Cup replay 1973.

Marlon Beresford away at Liverpool in the league cup. Tuesday night game and Jan Molby hit a ferocious top corner goal until Marlons hand came from know where. They ran the save on soccer night for a few years in the starting credits.

Daveptclaret says it was ‘jdrobbo at Turf Moor’
Nice to get the recognition for a pretty standard save from a header

Totally agree with you on that one Electro,at the time I thought wow that's one of the best saves I've ever seen,it prevented us beating the Champions elect as well!ElectroClaret wrote:Loads over the years, but the one by Ederson (city) from Aaron Lennon this season was quite brilliant.

Re: Best save I have ever seen - live
I must say that Popes save against Southampton in the recent home game was pretty special. Ultimately it saved us a point.

Re: Best save I have ever seen - live
I’ve posted my choice earlier but Nick Popes from Benteke, after he’d come on for Tom, was excellent.
The one with his left foot at the JMac end. He was under some pressure.

Tony Waiters, can't remember where or when, possibly at Coventry. The ball was lobbed over him but he managed to dive backwards and scoop it to safety. Actually, maybe he tried to do that but failed.
What a memory I have!

Arguably the best display of shot stopping by a Burnley keeper over the last 50 years.piston broke wrote:Alan Stevenson from Peter Cormack, in front of the Kop, in the FA Cup replay 1973.

Ben Mee when he headed it from his own goal line whilst down with an attacker approaching. Was is it against Stoke City?
