Could do worse. Will be much more affordable wage wise than Toure.
Although if we get Yaya over the line, that would be a fabulous coup.

We aren't going the break our wage structure to sign him without the knock on of others wanting more.
Be a good player and would improve our first team.

Playing behind the striker fine but not as a winger. Does not track back enough for Dyche. Ward had acres at Stoke down the left. Be great off Wood/Barnes though

Sean Dyche must be reading this board. Every time I say I'd sign a player, we get rumoured to be going in for them.

Good player but seems a right little t**t.

There's absolutely no chance of this happening, you don't sign for Bayern Munich & Inter Milan then move to Stoke for anything but cash.

Re: Xerdan shaquri
If this is going on then:
(1) Walters and Bardsley will have given references to SD and the club over his character
(2) Walters and Bardsley will have spoken with Shaqiri about our club and given him the low down on all aspects (including how our wage structure works)
(3) Shaqiri will have given some indicator that he’s interested in talking to us/moving to us.
Would definitely be an upgrade on what we have in the squad and would enable us to mix up our style of play a bit more than is possible at present.
If the numbers work out, the desire to come is there, and SD really wants him here then surely it’s a no brainer....

Yaya Toure and Xherdan Shaqiri - what are people smoking, really?...
...is exactly what I said before we signed Steven Defour, a current full Belgian international just after being promoted out of The Championship.
Just saying.

That's a fair point, I said the same. I couldn't even believe we looked set to sign Brady and Robertson in the same few daysjedi_master wrote:Yaya Toure and Xherdan Shaqiri - what are people smoking, really?...

Re: Xerdan shaquri
Well he ain’t staying at Stoke so could be something in this.
I thought he would be on at least £80k a week given his previous clubs but if he’s on a bit less than this - say £60k then he won’t be far off our wage limit I reckon.
If there is any truth in this i’m not worried about his character as Dyche will not sign anyone who does not fit in.
In terms of him as a player I think he would be a perfect no 10. Busy, low centre of gravity, 2 great feet and able to get his shots off very quickly with little backlift. He’s a better quality version of Danny Ings and our squad is missing this type of player

Here’s an interview he did for a Swiss magazine in March. I’m not sure that would impress Dyche.

Re: Xerdan shaquri
What is this belief that some people have that all our players are on the same money and signing someone on a bigger wage would have a knock on effect?
With all due respect, does anyone really think Scott Arfield will be on the same as Steven Defour?

Re: Xerdan shaquri
Mike Garlick in his interview I read the other day mentioned that there is not a big difference between the wages of players in the 1st team squad. He also stated that we are now competitive on wages with the average PL club.Juan Tanamera wrote:What is this belief that some people have that all our players are on the same money and signing someone on a bigger wage would have a knock on effect?

Take ManUre, Chelski and Citeh out of the equation as clubs who spend BIG and pay BIG then the Arse, Spurs and Liverpool who may make higher profile signings but rarely for Mega dosh and who pay at a level between that of the 3 mentioned earlier and the majority of the rest. Aspiring wannabe clubs like Leicester, Everton and West Ham may push the boat out for some players but have the majority of their squads on pretty 'ordinary' (as though there is anything ordinary about £40-60k per week) wages.
Re: Xerdan shaquri
I've never heard of one our players moaning about the club in the press, yet this guy has at Stoke, good player but not the character we want

Danny Ings was small, played no 10 role, great first touch and always liked to get a shot off quickly. He could beat a man and also liked a showboat / trick. He was also not scared of a tackle - they are all characteristics that Shaquri has got its just he has done it on a higher level and probably likes to run with the ball more.

Yeah but my point was you don't move from Milan/Bayern on a big long contract to Stoke (In a new country) without a pay rise.dsr wrote:You might move because Bayern Munich and Inter Milan don't want you any more?
Re: Xerdan shaquri
Depends what he's offered and who's offering. Why isn't he playing for Barcelona? There's two likely reasons. 1 - Stoke offered more money; 2 - Barcelona didn't want him.KRBFC wrote:Yeah but my point was you don't move from Milan/Bayern on a big long contract to Stoke (In a new country) without a pay rise.
Re: Xerdan shaquri
Shaqiri would be a steal at £12m. But he'll end up at a bigger club on wages we wouldn't pay. So I reckon no chance.
Re: Xerdan shaquri
Aye probably West Ham bound on £100k a week

Re: Xerdan shaquri
Expect a close-season where we are linked with several higher profile players from relegated clubs.
Challenging summer for us, in addition to addressing the quality/cover deficit in certain areas, together with boosting the squad for the Europa League - we are losing big characters, Arfield and Marney, possibly others who embody the Dyche ethos.
It's going to be important to retain that next season as we're inevitably going to have to dig out PL results on occasion with the demands of European fixtures,

If this is the quality of player we're looking to attract, then I'm encouraged. A 1st eleven player who, with a SD pre season, could most definitely take our style of play forward.

Danny Ings was a lot taller, was a striker, right-footed with a bit of pace and worked hard tracking back.TVC15 wrote:That’s got to be one of the stupidest exaggerated comments in the history of the Universe ever ever !

There's absolutely no resemblance to Shaqiri, who even the Stoke fans think is lazy with a bad attitude.
I stand by my statement that it is the worst comparison known to man.

Re: Xerdan shaquri
Shaqiri is a world beater on his day, but I couldn’t think of a less Dyche type player than this. Small, lazy and a bit of a maverick. However when he’s on it there’s few can match his skill and ability to unlock any defence.
Re: Xerdan shaquri
I think he's more like Peter Crouch.Diesel wrote:There's been worse on here to be fair.
Re: Xerdan shaquri
That doesn't make sense, he didn't have to chose between A or B, he already had a nice long contract at Inter Milan, he didn't have to go anywhere. Reports at the time said he was stalling on a £60k a week offer from Stoke, so they had to throw more cash at him to convince him to join. He probably feels like he's due a pay rise and a nice new long contract elsewhere, I doubt he'd take a pay cut to join us.dsr wrote:Depends what he's offered and who's offering. Ffs the comparison to Danny Ings was more because he was the last no 10 type player we had since Robbie Blake and it’s the playmaker kind of player we don’t currently have.
If someone else disagrees fine - to say it’s one of the worst comparisons ever seen is just a bit f’in silly - but hey ho.

Re: Xerdan shaquri
I'd be very surprised about this - i've always thought he's a bit like Ross Wallace in that he has a tendency to do the eye-catching bit of defending now and again, but he's not one for doing the ugly unglamorous and unheralded running every one of our team is expected to do. But perhaps I'm being unfair and if Dyche actually does want him, then fair enough.

I wasn't comparing them as players, just in terms of their approach to the defensive side of the game.

To be fair he looked like Souness with that awful raking challenge he did on Loftus Cheeks calf near the end.
He also has a look of Charlie Drake about him - though I think Drake was right footed
