50th anniversary!
Makes me feel old I was on the pitch at the end celebrating and some tw@t nicked my bobble hat Never saw who did it but it broke my heart coz I had loads of badges I'd collected on it.

Perhaps there is someone reading that and feeling guilty Capn!
Perhaps it can be returned to its rightful owner....

I went to EVERY one of the 1968 home and away youth cup games, along with a mate in his mini.

I am going, with Eddie Cliff.
Re: 50th fa youth cup anniversary
£19.68 a ticket or can you pay on the gate?
Re: 50th fa youth cup anniversary
Just getting ready to make my way there and excited and a bit emotional. Great memories of that night and little did I know I would ultimately get to know Alan West vie his future wife Cathie who I havent seen for40 years! Just the loveliest couple then and I am sure they havent changed. I think 340 for an event like this that is not even orgaised by the club is remarkable!!

Re: 50th fa youth cup anniversary
What was the gate that night ? I went on and was in the cricket field stand with my Dad. One of my earliest memories of the Turf
Re: 50th fa youth cup anniversary
I thought the cricket field stand was being rebuilt at that time.

Me too Bfc, but I only lived a few miles over the hill in Loveclough and did a lot of distance running back in the day, so I ran both ways.Bfc wrote:I went to EVERY one of the 1968 home and away youth cup games, along with a mate in his mini.
I could have done with a lift back in the mini though.

The 1914 Final.
In the 70's/ early 80's? Esso Garages gave out FA Cup coins if you bought enough petrol.
My Dad only bought petrol from Esso until he got the 1914 coin.
It's one of my most treasured possessions. It was used as a golf ball marker for years with pride.

Re: 50th fa youth cup anniversary
WHAT a cracking evening. 350 people celebrating this event. Amazing. Paul Fletcher compared events superbly especially given the poor mike set up he had to deal with! It was a real privelege to be there. It was good to be reminded just what an achievement winning this trophy was way back then. THE youngest side ever to win it! Little old Burnley beating City, Everton, United and of course Coventry after being 1-0 down on the first leg. (If I have got any of that wrong, apologies as I have had a few). Sad that Eric Probert and Joe Brown are no longer with us but all the side spoke so well about their memories and their lives since the Cup Run. To a man they spoke brilliantly and played along with the running joke (you had to be there). Skippy and Fletch sort of stole the show from a comedic point of view but all of the players added a unique poignencyto proceedings and all were quite rightly allowed to shine. Like all of us I am at peak proudsville of my team, my club and our fans at the moment but tonight it is at another level. We are such a people club. Real people and that was writ large tonight. Well done to all concened.

Totally agree with your comments Woody. I was talking to Dave Thomas's lovely daughters and wanted Dave to sign my menu card on the back. (Although he has Glaucoma, Dave can still sign his name and also plays golf.) His daughter put the White card onto the White tablecloth. Dave put his pen to the the cloth as though he was going to sign it. She shrieked "dad your missing the card and nearly signed the tablecloth". We all laughed with Dave, he knew what he was doing.
It was good to see 4 other ex Clarets also came to support the event.
