Fanzone
Yesterday the Fanzone was quite busy, but why the heck did they have the BIG screen showing highlights and interviews (with sound) whilst having 2BR blaring out tat tunes?
Neither were clearly heard as one audio was over the other
Please BFC, bin off 2BR for next season to allow football fans watch, AND hear, the audio on the football related entertainment on offer.

Re: Fanzone
This is a good point. It would surely pay for itself in the long run and wouldn't necessarily just have to open on match days. A Clarets themed pub / with plenty of screens showing football, good beer, decent food and an experienced team running it would surely be a viable business proposition in itself. You could potentially even operate other services out of it (ticketing / merchandise) that people struggle to get to during the regular office hours. You'd hope that somebody in the commercial department would be able to see the opportunity. The club will never be as cash rich as is is now so if ever there was a time to take a punt on something this is surely it?Mrpotatohead wrote:If only there was a building for sale near the ground which the club could buy to make it more suitable.

I agree it would be good if it worked. But the fact it's boarded up suggests it's not exactly a license to print money.Bacchus wrote:It would surely pay for itself in the long run and wouldn't necessarily just have to open on match days. Re: Fanzone
I'd expect that the affiliation to the club would bring in customers that the Park View in it's guise as a run down local with an iffy reputation selling crap beer never could have done. I've no expertise in the pub trade so I might be miles out, but there must be plenty of examples of failing pubs that have been turned around with the right investment and management.NottsClaret wrote:I agree it would be good if it worked. Either way, I'd be disappointed (but hardly surprised) if the club weren't investigating the possibility. If we really are to establish ourselves as a Premier League club then expanding the non-football side of things is surely something that needs to be considered.

Pretty sure I saw a tweet from Darren Bentley suggesting the club had looked into it on more than one occasion but it wasnt a viable investment other than "once every fortnight"

Re: Fanzone
Fanzone opens at club. Over next 4 years or so The Park View, Foresters, Burnley League and the Con Club all shut. Coincidence? Don’t get me wrong but I’m no lover of crap pubs and some of these have ridden on the football trade without any investment for decades. However, once they’re gone all we’re left with is a tent that ran out of beer on the last day of the season.

Re: Fanzone
The pub trade in general is on it's a$se. More people choosing to drink at home with low priced supermarket deals have done this. Higher pint prices in pubs don't help either.
Also, breweries are struggling to find landlords willing to go into the trade as it's well known if you do well they screw you down even more...long hours for not much return!
Couple that with a move for a lot of people to 'craft' beers and you have a problem with your normal high street boozer....

Re: Fanzone
The Park View had a metal fence around the entire building and car park on Sunday. There was a sign on the front of the pub saying..." New owners, new ideas"
So possibly it has been sold?

Re: Fanzone
Fanzone is a great idea, but it’s a pretty poor experience by and large. Long queues, overcrowding, very few seats and the prospect of standing in a car park with a pint in January isn’t massively appealing.

Re: Fanzone
And, as we all know, there WAS but no longer, the Park View has been bought which is why it was all railed off last weekend. I'm told its been bought by Heineken. If they've any sense, they'll open it as a fanzone type pub on match days.Mrpotatohead wrote:If only there was a building for sale near the ground which the club could buy to make it more suitable.

If it’s been bought by Heineken it will inevitably continue to serve crap beer, and will therefore be no competition for fanzone.

Re: Fanzone
We wouldn't all know this had changed Tony, not everyone lives on the doorstep of Turf Moor. Glad to hear it has been bought though, hopefully they will provide a better facility than the club currently do. Can't help but think the club missed a trick here. Although I doubt it would have generated a significant profit for the club, it would have been nice for them to provide the facility.ClaretTony wrote:And, as we all know, there WAS but no longer, the Park View has been bought which is why it was all railed off last weekend. Re: Fanzone
Why buy a pub, pay rates and staff 52 weeks a year, when you can throw a tent up and turnover more in 4 hours than the pub would in 2 weeks with minimal overheads.
Can't see it ever happening

I picked up the info via the bloke with the burger van on Sunday when I was down there for the game.Mrpotatohead wrote:We wouldn't all know this had changed Tony, not everyone lives on the doorstep of Turf Moor. What is it with this beer snobbery ? I had an ale from the Bowland Bus on Sat and it was lovely but if there was a pint of Heineken not that it will only do Heneken) and a shorter queue in the Park View I'd probably go there.scouseclaret wrote:If it’s been bought by Heineken it will inevitably continue to serve crap beer, and will therefore be no competition for fanzone.

To be fair that burger van man has been renting land off the park view for over 15 years so he will have a decent idea of what’s happening to his business.
I’m glad the club haven’t invested in that ugly building. Fans zone is decent and with a few minor changes (more beer, less/no 2br) it would be perfect.
The overheads for the fans zone will be tiny compared to an old building which probably needs a million spending just to make it look half decent.

Re: Fanzone
Basically they need to make it better than a tent with beer so that they can support themselves for the rest of the year on 19 guaranteed pay days plus whatever else they can pick up on weekends. Every pub in Burnley is on it's arse during the week. The students seem to have dried up, and if your earning you're not going out drinking midweek anyway. I plat in the pool league and the teams on Monday night only seem to have a few pints even with the footy on during the season. I hope they turn the PV into something decent and I'm glad it's going to keep going as a pub.

He'd have more than a decent idea. He was told that his usual pitch was blocked off and he had to contact the new owners to get a pitch and they placed him right in front of the pub doors on HPW. So he knew who he'd spoken to.Inchy wrote:To be fair that burger van man has been renting land off the park view for over 15 years so he will have a decent idea of what’s happening to his business.

Re: Fanzone
The point is, not everyone is bothered about a choice of decent ale, but a lot of people are so if you don’t offer it you’re alienating a significant part of your potential customer base. Generally speaking, the reason pubs shut down isn’t to do with economic conditions and the like, it’s simply because they’re sh!t pubs.Blackrod wrote:What is it with this beer snobbery ? Re: Fanzone
If a pub serves decent beer/larger/ale at a decent price then it’ll do well.
The fanzone is popular because they serve decent ale at a reasonable price and although busy the wait isn’t that long.
The only downsides to it is when the weather is crap and having 2BloodyRecords there drowning out any sound from what’s being shown on the big screen

Re: Fanzone
Building a more permanent structure will just bring overheads and it will be empty most of the time.
The club should just get a bigger tent and stick some heaters in it. I went to a wedding in the Peak District on NYE. Was freezing outside but nice and warm inside.

True, but grassroots clubs have licensed clubhouses. When not in use they hire them out. If Jimmy Jacks FC can make a go of a licensed building, I’m sure Premier League Burnley could.Inchy wrote:Building a more permanent structure will just bring overheads and it will be empty most of the time.

But we already have several cooperate facilities which are used as function rooms. I wonder how often they are used midweek. I doubt they are always booked up
