I'm not a massive royalist but have enjoyed it very much so far. The cello and harp musicians are brilliant at the moment. We do this kind of thing exceptionally well.
Re: The Royal wedding
Not a royalist but wife had it on in background. A few minutes was enough. What on earth was James Corden ( the irritating s*d ) doing there ?

I am not a big royalist but when you look at Trump I think it's preferable. Good luck to the lad losing your mum so young and coming through all the adversaries thrown at him he seems a decent bloke and I wish them all happiness.

Bishop Curry and the gospel choir. The look on some establishment faces was priceless.
Hope the red white & blue cup final is as enjoyable.

a huge expensive charade, a collection of privileged toffs, monied and titled landowning elites. All those with rugby union , army officer connections.
Polo, lavish housing, on grand estates.
BBC goes into overdrive, as do the red tops, and idiots ranting on about clothes, and shaming anyone who doesnt drool over this drivel.
It looked like a huge PR job , milking the faux love in with the USA.
Millions living in abject poverty, government cuts are rife, and we are meant to doff our collective caps to these saps.

Careful, as mentioned recently we were a Rugby Union team before switching to Association Football in 1882 and you're happy enough supporting a team with Rugby connections.Wile E Coyote wrote:a huge expensive charade, a collection of privileged toffs, monied and titled landowning elites. Re: The Royal wedding
Being a staunch Royalist myself, I have to agree with post #6….”Britain at its best”. No one else is capable of pulling off an event with such pomp and ceremony with military precision. “Stand by me” happens to be one of my all time favourite songs and the Gospel choir nailed it! No question Bishop Curry’s words raised a few eyebrows, at one point Prince Chuckie looked like he was falling asleep. Nice to see the weather co-operated.
I’m a big fan of Harry and the Royals in general. In my mind the “Invictus Games” are brilliant, good for him for heading up such an inspiring event.
God Save The Queen.

A grand do was that.
The only thing that was missing was a few of them soldiers bayoneting them screaming Comanche twa*s in the throat.

Each to their own. I get why some dislike it so much but i felt proud to be British today. We are the most inclusive nation in the World and embraced her heritage and colture without breaking stride (as should be the case). We've got our problems but on the whole we're a good bunch. Im Proud to be British, especially today

Re: The Royal wedding
I didn't watch it all but saw enough to see that they can still put on a good show. I much prefer what we have and a us style head of state.
Nice to see a good sermon from the bishop as well, delivered with some passion, too many seem to bottle it with a full church and end up with something wishy washy.

Re: The Royal wedding
I didnt watch it live but been catching up with UK and foreign press reports. Looked reet grand to me.
It's created much positive comment in the foreign press I've looked at, compliments mainly centred around how it wasn't over-formal and was inclusive and hugely well organised/carried out.
German press especially lapping it up.

I don’t live in a posh area what’s so ever, yet there was street party’s all over the area today, the sun was out and the mood around Burnley was fantastic.
We had no money growing up yet I have never felt the need to complain about the fact the royal family apparently gets funded by the tax payer! Personaly I love it! Each to there own I suppose but I’d never let somebody else’s fortune upset me!

What happens if an unelected queen or king turns out to be a despot?Holmeclaret wrote:Worth it for as long as the armed forces swear loyaly to the queen instead of the country, preventing a despot from ever taking over.
Anyway, our armed forces might swear an oath of loyalty to the head of state, but it's the PM and the Cabinet who hold the real power and they are accountable to Parliament. Our current democratic system has proved to be adept at stopping despots, regardless of kings or queens.

The way some describe Meg & Harry you'd think that Superman had married Wonder Woman, they are so perfect.
Also, the idea that she comes from a warm and loving family obviously couldn't be farther from the truth. How else do you explain that only her mother was invited from her side of the family?
No brother or sister, no cousins etc.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! Proves how normal Harry is, judging somebody because they are from a broken family whilst everyone seems to be judging someone for being born into a privileged family!?!?Spijed wrote:The way some describe Meg & Harry you'd think that Superman had married Wonder Woman, they are so perfect.

Re: The Royal wedding
There isn't, but it's just the narrative that makes it sound like she comes from a good family. Why can't the commentators be open and honest about her background, rather than paint a picture that suggests something that isn't true?Burnley1989 wrote:There’s absolutely nothing wrong with that! 45 million pounds that shindig cost, and that is a very conservative estimate, and the taxpayer foots the bill. I think your attempt to detach the royals from this is either tongue in cheek or very naive.
