Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Hardly news....we’ve looked at him several times whilst Dyche has been manager.
He’s just trying to fill column inches by announcing something plausible to fill a gap in tomorrow’s paper....

That's okay.
I believe they're similar age and similar ability

Ben's my favourite player btw
Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Ability is one thing but can Dawson benefit his defensive partner as well as Mee has?
Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Very good point. But if Ben wants more money than we want to pay then we need to move on.DCWat wrote:Ability is one thing but can Dawson benefit his defensive partner as well as Mee has?
I don't think the negotiations are done yet though

I always thought WBA paid pretty well, better than us, but this site suggests he's on £40k a week.

Tin hat time
Could "we're looking at Dawson" be a ploy to kick Mee negotiations up a notch?

Apparently the club have resigned themselves to having to sell Mee this summer according to a number of rumours I've heard as well.
Hoping they are proved wrong but the contract negotiations are clearly not going well

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Austin
Rodriguez
Blake
Akinbiyi
Fletcher
Chaplow
Gray (Andy)
Gray (Andre)
Even Keane.
All left for supposedly better things and few ended up better off. We have surpassed all of their ambitions.
Even Trippier who bettered himself we adequately replaced.
If Mee goes he goes. I dont think he will. But we are bigger than any individual.

Our success is built on team spirit all on or about the same money no fancy fans no jelousy no sniping behind backs. If Ben has to go for the greater good then so be it. Four million pounds plus a year then the rest start hammering on the door we will be in trouble. UTC

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
I said months ago I thought it highly likely we would be trying for Dawson again - regardless of Mee’s contract situation.
Dyche is a fan and the fact he can play right back as well as centre back to a high standard probably makes him a more enticing prospect than some others as it takes competition up a level in two positions.

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Phil Jones provided the perfect demonstration as to why you need a left footed centre back in a pairing. Ben is certainly the best English left sided centre back, if not in the whole division. It will be almost impossible to replace him and as he is a smart lad, he probably knows it.

Don't think he has really been injured the last couple of months has he ?
Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Dawson is a right sided player so couldn't replace Mee ( as could not Tarks)

Not sure how accurate that site is, Tarky, Barnes, Pope and JBG have all signed new contracts this season which would put them towards the top earners.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:I always thought WBA paid pretty well, better than us, but this site suggests he's on £40k a week.

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Burnley fans might find it inconceivable but it could just be that Ben fancies a change of scene, rather like Arfield, his best mate. When he signed as a 22 year old - or whatever he was - he mightn’t have exepected to see out his career with us. His next decision is a career defining one, so it might not be down purely to money unless we were to offer him something extraordinary. An extra £10K a week and playing in front of a bigger regular crowd - say at leicester,West Ham of Newcastle, for example, might be more appealing to Ben that we might think.

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Phil Jones is good enough for Southgate and the World Cup squad.
Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
It’s a fair point. Maybe he thinks he’s achieved all he can at Burnley as it is hard to see us bettering our league position, so that only really leaves a successful cup run, which is always a bit of a lottery. Hard to keep motivating yourself when you have already achieved (and possibly exceeded) your goals. A change of scene would present a new challenge and new motivation.Cubanclaret wrote:Burnley fans might find it inconceivable but it could just be that Ben fancies a change of scene, rather like Arfield, his best mate. I have seen Ben during his absence and he DEFINITELY had a medical issue looking at the mount of work and strapping around his chin. so this preserving the payout from a transfer is well wide of the mark.

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Highly unlikely Ben will ever play a European game or international game for someone else, I assume he didn't for City, so he has to be mindful that when he has his slippers on telling stories to his grandkids, he isn't saying "I wish I hadn't rushed at that move to West Ham and missed out on the chance to play a big European game in my career".
As I just put on the other thread, the odds of a huge, huge tie in late August now appear much higher. I imagine the players would regret missing out on it more than the fans would, and I'd hate it.

I don't think the players care anywhere near as much as fans, I see players as simply doing their job. The whole pretending to really care often a media thing and almost saying what they have to say. I wonder how many of our former players still watch us regularly now?CrosspoolClarets wrote:Highly unlikely Ben will ever play a European game or international game for someone else, I assume he didn't for City, so he has to be mindful that when he has his slippers on telling stories to his grandkids, he isn't saying "I wish I hadn't rushed at that move to West Ham and missed out on the chance to play a big European game in my career".

I believe if a bigger financial offer was on the table for each of our players, the entire lot of them would be off in a flash and all churning out the lines we've seen from Arfield about how it was a ''no brainer'' and he cant wait to get started. Will Arfield be back on the Turf?
We saw it with Jay Rod, a local born lad through the youth team, if ever loyalty was to be tested, that was the moment and what happened? he jumped ship instantly as quickly as he could. I haven't ever seen him return to watch a game unless he's been sat on the bench of the opposition.

Re: We're looking at Dawson to replace Mee
Just reading through a few of these posts and it sweems we rate Mee more highly than those not at the club. Someone has posted that he is the best left footed cb in the PL, league, country (can't remember which, maybe the world, who knows). Okay if this is the case why are the big six not battering our door down with stupid offers that they can easily afford? Teams mentioned on here that he 'might go to'; Leicester, West Ham, Newcastle? If you really are so highly rated why would you go to any of these clubs? It also kind of destroys the argument about him leaving for a career move given that it would not necessarily be so. So if he left for any of the above (and I don't believe he is going anywhere) it would only be for money, not better prospects as none of the above are going to trouble the big 6 anytime soon.
