Re: How many cars have you owned?
An ex - works Mk1 Escort RS 1600? Wow, that'll be going for a fairly large fortune these days. There was a Mk1 RS1600 rally car in Gulf racing colours for sale recently, and that was up for £125k. Tail out cornering at every corner!

Don’t remind me BennyD - my brother and friends keep reminding me about what it might be worth now! It was roll caged, dry sumped, oil coolers in the boot and used to be driven by Will Sparrow in the 70’s, in the Tony Pond era I believe!

When did you sell it and who to?

Re: How many cars have you owned?
Ah yes; Tony Pond had a stint in the TR8 and put it through the wire at Knowsley safari park. Trouble was, the wire was the outside of the lion enclosure and the nose of the car was under a watering trough! Great rally cars in those days; Escorts RS1600s & RS1800s, TR8s, Chevette HSRs, Sunbeam Lotus’s, Lancer Turbos, Opel Mantas, Skoda 130s and even the odd Lada. Rear drive ruled until the Audi Quattro came along and moved the game on. Oh happy days!Hozz wrote:Don’t remind me BennyD - my brother and friends keep reminding me about what it might be worth now! Re: How many cars have you owned?
Just Claretandjew's old one
Re: How many cars have you owned?
Inbetween owning my own car atm,but from 1988 to last year I had 11 different cars.
My fave:
Fiesta xr2i-Not lightning quick but not many would keep up with me on country roads;not even a 'bobby beamer'
Fantastic roadholding.
Could take the left hand bend down Bacup road at the old quarry at 70mph without any fuss.
Also owned rather more mundane motors such as a 1.6 Rover,1.4 Strada,1.4 cavalier,1.4 Astras ×3,1.4 Rover,1.4 Peugot 205,1.1 Uno and a Talbot Matra Rancho (7 seater) which had to go because the lads took it for granted that I was the away day driver.

Re: How many cars have you owned?
I owned the first roadster for 4 years, my longest with any modern car. I missed it so much I bought another and now wish I had kept that one as prices are buoyant and can only increase IMHO for the better onesBennyD wrote:That’s a fairly eclectic, but impressive, list. I really like the Alpinas you’ve had, I might have a look at one one day and see if they are as good as I think they are!
The B5 was up there with the very best, true hand built Alpina, 4.4 L supercharged to 500bhp. The ultimate Q car and easily returning 30mpg
Early days are suggesting I won't come close to that in the Mustang
Older B10, B3s are great value v. BMW M counterparts and engines good for high mileage if looked after. Good support network through the Alpina Register Forum

Re: How many cars have you owned?
I might have a look to see what is available when I get the itch to own one. Unfortunately, the War Department have will almost certainly have a different idea.

Re: How many cars have you owned?
Add Lancia Stratos and Saab 99 to that list. I used to love rallying back in the day, my Dad used to take my brother and I to the Lombard RAC each year. Stately home stages on Sunday - Sutton Park, Knowseley, Clumber, Chatsworth, Harewood amongst others. Then Kielder, Grizedale, Dalby and an assortment of Welsh forest stages Hafren, Sweet Lamb, Dyfi to name a few. I lost interest late 90s after Colin McRae and Richard Burns both left Subaru. Sadly both former British World Champions are no longer with us.BennyD wrote:Ah yes; Tony Pond had a stint in the TR8 and put it through the wire at Knowsley safari park. Re: How many cars have you owned?
To be honest Dark Cloud, the Alfa was a great car. Owned it from brand new for just over 5 years (the longest I've owned a car), and it never missed a beat. Only time in a garage was for routine services, ran like a dream, and not a bad drive.Dark Cloud wrote:"Some nice cars there". Bet you wouldn't include the Alpha 156 , but I have always wanted one!!

Re: How many cars have you owned?
lot of cars listed, as a family we all like cars very much but far to many to start listing, Ford Anglia to start and now have Abarth 500 Esseesse and RR Velar plus an Acura RL3.5 Most fun car to drive ever, Abarth 500.
Best car for him, 1957 Porsche 395 (I think) convertible rebuilt in California, everyone asked about his Noddy car, for me original 2001 Audi Allroad 2.7 biturbo with 4 ride heights, solar sun roof, which was faster than his 911 Targa 0 - 40.
Best looking car we've had, Triumph Stag, love the look of this car, would like an E-Type to top it but he says no!!

Re: How many cars have you owned?
I've been driving since 1982 but not actually owned many cars as I've been driving a company car for about 30 years. As far as those I've owned goes:
Hillman Imp (VRE601G) - first car cost me £50.00
Mini van (T reg) - sadly written off (not my fault)
Mini 1000 (S Reg) - my favourite
Morris Marina (R Reg) - it's a cliché but this was a dreadful car
Datsun 120Y (R Reg) - nice looking car but a rustbucket
