Losing fans

Post by Colburn_Claret » Sat May 26, 2018 7:05 pm

No not us.

It gets on my tits that the fans of the losers desert Wembley in droves, as soon as the final whistle blows. It happens at every play off final, every cup final. Villa did their best, especially second half, didn't they warrant some sort of appreciation from the fans.
Would WE have just cleared off if the result against Sheff U had gone the other way. I'd like to think not, but maybe I'm being biased.
There was a time in the 60's, 70's and 80's when both teams did the lap of honour, and the winners and losers were acclaimed by both sets of fans. When did it go downhill like this. There must have been a first. Shelf U certainly didn't hang around, but who started this phenomena of being a bad loser.

Of course we would've gone if we'd lost, we don't hang around at TM when we lose.

There are fans that don't hang around at Turf Moor when we're winning, but I've stayed and applauded the team off many times when we've put in a great display, even though it ended in defeat. All you can ask is that the players give their all, and if they do then they warrant some appreciation.

I drove down with 4 others, but my Dad went on one of the coaches. He said on the way back, the time it took to get out of the carpark, he could have got off, gone to a pub, got p1ssed and then got back on, before it had moved 100 yards. I think had we lost, people would have just wanted to get the hell out of there.

I meant a collective we.

Some stay and applaud, others applaud on their way out

GodisadJ from my viewpoint as long as the team have tried their best they deserve my support as they leave the pitch - as the team tend to disappear rather quickly from the pitch in such a situation we wouldn't have to hang on long !

Fans used to hang around in the 80's after a loss.

Often heard chanting "Teasdale out".

I'm sure our players did a lap of honour at Wembley 1988. Granted, the circumstances were different; just one year after almost going out of existence and a lot less at stake in the game.

I think the majority of our fans stayed to show their appreciation to the team.

Isn't it down to context?
Had we lost to Stockport I would have been away very rapidly. We didn't really deserve to be at Wembley that season after failing miserably to get anywhere near the top 2 places. The players didn't really deserve a Wembley appearance after a pretty poor season. (Of course we all enjoyed winning, but I wouldn't have been cheering them had we lost - esp. against 9 men!).
Putting forward the opposite argument I was happy to cheer the team when they were relegated under Dyche.
Let's not forget that the play-offs are a reward for failure if you aspire to gain automatic promotion.

I went to a game at Emirates toward the end of the season. I understand it was the last home game for their manager. I enjoyed leaving the ground - having recognised the efforts of the Burnley team - and walking to the underground and getting on the train with no queues. it may have taken an hour longer if I'd stayed....

I've forgotten the result of the game....

After the Sherpa Van I think most stayed behind to applaud both teams......

I remember Steve Bull coming past and everyone singing “Bullshit, Bullshit.........” with him conducting the chant and laughing his socks off

We couldn’t believe we’d just seen the Clarets at Wembley.......worth a standing ovation for all of ‘em....

Losing affects some fans more than others , not sure why you would be bothered about it

Unfortunately the late Arthur Bellamy had a habit of scoring at The Hawthorns.

I might be sad but feel a show of appreciation win or lose can only encourage our team.
