We recently experienced the arrival of a group of travelers to 'enrich' the area. During the short time they infected the locality with their own special brand of poison, amongst other things, these vermin:

Set up camp on a grass verge next to the by pass, ruined the landscape and when finally evicted left behind a mountain of mess for the local tax payer to have to pay to deal with
Broke down the gates into a local nature reserve and repeated the above antics
Saw a sudden and short lived spate of bicycle thefts, beginning when they arrived and ending, coincidentally when they were finally removed from the area via a court order
Saw an increase in thefts from vans and break ins to garages, sheds and outbuildings, timescale as described above.
Local school children attacked on their way home from school, after managing to avoid the smashed bottles and human excrement they had spread across the underpass. Police advise was for school children to avoid using the underpass to travel to and from school. The alternative route is that they cross an extremely busy 60mph by pass at the busiest times of the day. Thankfully, teachers from the school stood patrol at the underpass to allow safe travel for the children.

So you can imagine the lack of sympathy I have towards these parasites.

I don't think the majority of us have anything against fellow human beings living their lives in a different way to the the majority of society.
What most people do object to, however, is if any part of society is treated differently (or less leniently) for committing crimes.

We have seen lots of programmes recently about the huge fines and sentences you can now get for fly tipping - how is leaving the mess that many of the travelling communities leave behind them any different ?

The travelling community is a part of society that seems to be treated differently by the authorities in a whole range of areas - tax, law, etc. I am all for treating minorities different for positive reasons where this is needed but not when this is allowing them to get away with not paying tax or committing offences just because it might cause friction between communities. As in all communities / minorities clearly its not all of that community who act in that way.

I bet you'd rather have me as a neighbour than a band of travellers

Part of the problem with the world today is people like you making excuses for and defending law breakers who don't give a damn about society so I really don't know why you care about them so much.

Large numbers of these " Cultural enrichers " go back to a village in Ireland for Christmas, Rathkeale, Co.Limerick ( from memory ) and I know from talking to a member of the Irish Police, that they breath a collective sigh of relief when they return to the UK in the New Year !

Should we be asking, is their presence in the UK condusive to the public good ?

Two ringleaders just been sentenced, just over 4 years for one 3 for the other. A third is on the run after skipping bail, and a 17 year old will be given a slap on the wrist by the youth court.
So, in summary, 100 'travellers' break in and cause over £250000 of damage and steal everything of value from a business premises. They are given a police escort out of the area, with the stolen goods on board, and just 2 end up inside, for no longer than about 18 months.
Good job crime doesn't pay.

Mines quite simple, a huge crime was committed and there has been a pitiful punishment.

I'd have a hard border for these vermin and kick the lot of them back to Ireland. If we are stopping decent folk from Europe settling here why do we have to make an exception for these **** ?

I wonder if the police would have been so accommodating had 100 Burnley fans done the same?

No doubt the liberals will be up in arms, but the blunt truth is that the police and judiciary are frightened of the 'travelling' community. I'd challenge anybody to disagree, no one else gets away with the things they do.

Not enough prisons. Senile out of touch judges afraid to be seen to be picking on a ‘minority’ group. This country is a soft touch, crime pays and the criminals know it.

What on earth has being a "liberal" got to do with it. Or do you think it is the opposite of a "conservative".

Whatever your politics, the powers police and the judiciary have to deal with this sorts of incidents are crap.
