Travellers have taken over Thwaite's Brewery site in Blackburn
They've fully occupied the site and have denied access to staff. Police can't do anything because they haven't the resources to physically remove them. They are causing a right mess apparently, stripping brass from the place and all sorts. It's a joke that our police force haven't got the manpower to deal with something like this.

They'll move on once the locals start introducing themselves to their horses.

Manpower?
They've always got the manpower if they really need it for this sort of thing.

Send the army in then.
Imagine if they took over West Minister and the Houses of Parliament? They would all be jailed instantly.

Re: Travellers have taken over Thwaite's Brewery site in Blackburn
I think it's all down to whoever owns the land the 'travellers' pitch up on. If its Council owned land, the Council can usually move them fairly quickly, if its privately owned land (I presume this site will be), its up to the owner, via their solicitors, to shift them.
Failing that, as others have alluded to, the Police should just let the wide eyed, chin dribbling locals wander near the fine looking mares at the camp and those Romany type people will be off sharpish.

Just read that Thwaites IS private land and therefore the police have no powers until a court order is produced. This can't happen until tomorrow as courts don't sit on a public holiday....

I would suggest that many would be startled with the actual number of officers on duty today. Some seem to think there will be hundreds kicking about. Dave and Tess' cuts are real. The thin blue line is just that.

Perhaps a member of the public could phone the old bill and mention they feel intimidated by a possibly racist comment made on the site? I’d imagine helicopters will be scrambled full riot units mobilised , teams of councillors for the victims etc

And lets not refer to them as travellers. They are parasites, cockroaches, vermin, leaving behind as much $hit as they can. We've had an influx of them arrive over here since they were thrown out of Ireland.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote:That's usually why gypos pick bank holiday weekends to do stuff
The reason they are so hated is because they intentionally outcast themselves from society, don't contribute a penny but instead steal, litter and treat any area they are in with utter contempt. The whole purpose of their 'way of life' is to make it easier to get away with breaking the law.

If this thread was about Muslims moving themselves into somewhere without permission, this would be on page 5 or 6 by now.

Re: Travellers have taken over Thwaite's Brewery site in Blackburn
I wonder if anybody has ever totted up how much, nationwide, it costs Councils to clear up after travellers?
Doing a quick google finds a lot of local paper stories: eg one from 2017 from the Express & Star saying that it's cost West Midlands "more than £1 million per year"; one from a year earlier from a west London paper saying "Travellers have cost Hillingdon Council £200,000 in clean-up costs this year" etc etc etc with £20k here , 50k there on and on.
It must be in the tens of millions nationwide.
They largely get away with it despite what they do being entirely predictable. Couincils seem to prefer spending council tax money to clean up after the event rather than tackle at source.

The longer it goes on the more costs will be incurred and the Council can ask for a bigger budget the next year. By being lenient they also won't face any claims for treating a minority group unfairly. They ll probably be able to tick a few boxes on the equality form.
Re: Travellers have taken over Thwaite's Brewery site in Blackburn
They trashed the kids park just of harold avenue on stoops they trashed hargher clough rec and just kept moving between the two places. Cost thousands to repair and clean up. The "leader" said they would leave Burnley only after his granddaughter had her baby at th Edith Watson so the counil let them stay. I cannot think of one benefit they bring to society. Anyone who sympahises with them wouldn't want them anyway near their house.

I would pay to watch that.

They moved on to some land near me that was owned by Tesco awaiting a new store development. They were booted off in under 48 hours. If they get in the way of big corporations they are swiftly dealt with. Not where they are but who's toes they step on.

Not being well acquainted with travellers, what's their objective by pitching up on private property? Setting up camp somewhere only to be booted off shortly afterwards seems like a colossal waste of time and effort.
