Too early to tell, but if I was a derby fan this would concern me. History is littered with brilliant footballers, who failed miserably as managers. Going for someone with no experience feels like they've already given up the dream for another season.

Quite an exciting appointment for Derby. Better than giving it to some of the failures that refuse to get off the merry-go-round.

It will be interesting to see how he gets on, especially with the amount of cost cutting that will be going on there, so it’s not like he’s going to get the chance to throw all the money at it. He’ll have to work shrewdly if he wants success.

They've tried just about every other variation of manager so why not give it a go?

I believe they've got some good young players coming through that Rowett didn't use so that might help him.

Unless we "swoop" in and nick a couple.

Me too. He comes across really well and intelligent. Can tell he is not your stereotypical "stupid" footballer as they say. Also seems a decent bloke.

Same.

Plus he will potentially have access to contacts that others wouldn't through the clubs he's played for and his Dad and Uncle.

Comes across well and wasn't afraid to move away from West Ham to prove he could do it as a footballer away from his family connections.

He walked from West Ham because they'd sacked his dad.

I can see this happening maybe Terry in a coaching role and playing when required,of course he would have to take a wage drop, but if he still wants to compete at a decent level i can't see many other Championship clubs signing him.

I like Lampard and I'll never pass an opportunity to post the video below.

People need to be careful what they say, I bet this guy cringes everytime he hears his name now.

Theyve afforded lampard.

If lampard wants terry he will get him. Just doubt he will make that move for him.

Sometimes I think club chairmen think all the players will become as good as the superstar footballer they have appointed as manager. I like Lampard but he would have been better learning his trade as a number two or coach then move up.

I thought that would be patently obvious to everyone. He has never been a manager before.

It can be seen as an exciting appointment, but not good or bad.

You think it's a good appointment because........

They too are cutting costs because they've overspent so much in the two seasons in the Championship they are going to have to cut their wage bill to come into line with FFP. That's the reason Terry has gone.
Well thats an interesting play off final we have

Hes exceeded all expectations already. Anything else is a bonus. Very good job well done for a young english manager in his first job.

Digging my post up about Derby & Villa, interesting to note that they are two of the three clubs Steve Gibson is targeting in his complaints to the league regarding their overspending re: FFP.

Pots and Kettles. He starts to complain now he’s stopped doing it. He’s been propping Muddlesbrough up for two decades.

His argument is that they sold players last summer that they didn't need to sell (Adomah, Bamford & Gibson) to come into line with the FFP rules but others are not playing by the rules. The two play off finalists were the clubs he was mainly targeting.

I understand that; my point is that they only sold those players because he’s no longer willing to finance them. It was necessity, not virtue.

Not his unwillingness to finance them, but to ensure the club didn't break FFP rules - or that's what he said.
