Jay, his dad and that Gareth Seddon (former Salford player) often meet at the Hub at Turf Moor. I think they run an agency or something.

Gareth Seddon & Kiko Rodriguez are both agents working for DRN Sport. They have a lot of our younger players on their books. They are not Jay's agents though, he's with Beswick's at Stoke.

OT but there were quite substantial queues outside the ticket office this morning. Easily 50 people in the line waiting.
Presume season tickets on sale or seat swaps.
Whatever it was, it was nice to see.

From today's Times ....
Burnley in Jay Rodriguez talks as West Brom plan clear-out
Burnley are in talks to re-sign Jay Rodriguez from West Bromwich Albion. The forward spent five years with his hometown club before a £6 million move to Southampton in 2012. He has been made available after West Brom were relegated from the Premier League this month.
Rodriguez, 28, scored seven times in 37 league games in his first campaign in the West Midlands after a £12 million transfer from St Mary’s a year ago. He is likely to be among a number of departures from West Brom, who want to reduce their wage bill and reshape their squad.
Rodriguez’s season was clouded by an allegation that he racially abused Gaëtan Bong, the Brighton & Hove Albion defender, during West Brom’s 2-0 victory in January. He was charged by the FA but the allegation was not proven. An independent commission said that on the balance of probabilities it was not satisfied that the striker made the comments that were alleged.

Sky sports are reporting that West Brom want over 20m for him. I'd love to re-sign Jay, but I hope it's for the right price.

If it's £20 million and anywhere near the wages mentioned I would prefer we looked elsewhere. The positive with Jay Rod is the background stuff in that we know he will settle in the area and the fans like him.

Could be argued he was a better player when we sold him for £6m. By any analysis £20m is pie in the sky

Re: Jay Rod
He's 26, scored 9 goals in a crap side.
That has to be worth £20 mill of anyones money.
There is a limit, we're still not Barcelona, but Jay is a winner. He never gives up and is a game changer. He would also suit SD's style of football. I would love to get him back, but then I know it's going to be very tough to get the deal done.

Re: Jay Rod
I think our Board know what he is worth, and that there will be no sell on in 3/4 year's time. We will offer £15m maximum
and if that is not accepted move on.

£20m is a lot of money, but then at 28 he still could have another 7 or 8 seasons in him which then makes the fee seem a little more palatable.

About as spot on as you can get.Lord Beamish wrote:If Dyche wants him, that’s good enough for me.
If, IF he signs, then add the Mr Dyche factor and then the extra 5% drive he would have playing for his home town club, then there's no reason he can't get a dozen league goals.
To have 2 players able to score 10+ league goals each, goes a very long way in this league to surviving comfortably.

Sold him for around 7 mil so would be buying him back for 13 mil. That makes it sound better.
Re: Jay Rod
I said at the end of the season Jay-Rod would cost £20m.
And if Wood is worth £15/18m then 20m is a fair price.

Re: Jay Rod
I get the logic of where Rodriguez might fit in for us - natural second striker, comfortable dropping into midfield, so ideal as a sort of number 10, especially playing off Wood, who doesn't really hold the ball up in the central areas with his back to goal. And as ever, of course if Dyche has identified him as a player who can help us move forwards, then that should be more than good enough for any of us.
But....I can't say he's the sort of player I had down as our greatest priority this summer. He's more refined than Barnes, and probably more comfortable dropping into midfield than Vokes, but he's not radically different to either of them and his recent record isn't that much better, either. He looks to me like a player diminished a bit by injury (he's less explosive than he was in his earlier years), but whose wages are still a bit of a hangover from the promise he showed before his injuries.
That said, I wouldn't get hung up on reputed transfer fees of £20 million. That no doubt will include every staged payment and every add-on under the sun, including international call ups, us winning Europe, and us surviving for about 5 more years, that sort of thing. If we sign him, and we ever end up paying the full amount (whatever it is), then he'll have more than paid for himself.

Re: Jay Rod
Peoole who keep saying ah but he scored 7 in a bad side keep forgetting he was part of that bad side.
Re: Jay Rod
It seems as if we have opened talks re. possible transfer of Jay Rod.
but doubt we will wish to pay 20m or so for him. 15m max. would be about right in my view.
Even that may be too much and he would probably have to take a pay cut
as doubt we would offer him as much as he is/was getting at West Brom which, I believe
was close to 70k a week.
Can he offer us something? Well, if Dyche thinks so then that's good enough for me.
The issue for me is whether Dyche can get an extra 10-20% out of him.
Don't think he has much more pace left and at 28 may not have that much left in his locker,
so to speak.
Personally I think we could get better for that sort of money especially if we looked further afield.
And younger and pacier too. Possibly more of a risk admittedly.
We are probably favourites but there are a few other clubs interested.
Palace and Bournemouth according to some reports.
Still, shall be interesting to see whether we do land him.

This is the problem though, these younger pacier players are 15m.jurek wrote:Personally I think we could get better for that sort of money especially if we looked further afield.

.
Anyone whos cut it in the championship with 20 goals is 15m.
An injured Wells was 5m, and he only had 12 Championship goals and no premier league experience.
IF we sign J-Rod, he will know us inside out, we know him inside out, and it might all just click back into place.
If he comes and grabs 10-12 goals we will all be extreamly happy with the purchase.
There's no reason at all why it shouldn't work out, and the fact he can play multiple positions is a benefit for us.
There's a reason there's not many players who fit our budget who can score 10+ premier league goals a season.
We can't afford another couple of risk signings, or to give a young league 1 striker a chance.
We could possibly have well over 50 games this season, a strong proven squad with 2 players per position is what we will need, if we are to keep out of any sort of trouble with relative ease.
Re: Jay Rod
If it goes to a bidding war against the likes of Bournemouth, Newcastle and Palace etc then we will lose out - they will be prepared to pay over the odds
Hodgson rated him very highly when at Southampton and he would prob have gone to Brazil if not badly injured
Given the position WBA were in when he signed for them, it seems inconceivable to me that his agent didn't get some sort of relegation release clause written into the contract.
Poor work by his agent but WBA will know they can hold out for a high bid
