I’ll never truly get my head around the snide vitriol and needless opprobrium directed at Brian Jensen by some on here.

Did he actually? I can't imagine he made much, who would want a XXXXL goalkeeping training top worn by one of the worst goalkeepers I've ever seen? He was one big soft goalkeeper.FeedTheArf wrote:Or use the next few months to flog all of his Crusaders training gear he'd accumulated on eBay like he did at Burnley... not for charity but his own pocket

1 good season doesn't disguise what a poor keeper he was. A massive crybaby when he couldn't get in the team too.

I still have flashbacks of Jensen running out of his area and picking the ball up at Luton

Do you remember that brilliant night at Chelsea where he was excellent, and saved a penalty in the shoot-out. Do you remember that promotion season?
So what if he picked one up at Luton FFS.

He had a good 6 month in the promotion season, 6 months in 10 years doesn't give a fair reflection on his ability as a goalkeeper.dandeclaret wrote:Do you remember that brilliant night at Chelsea where he was excellent, and saved a penalty in the shoot-out. Do you remember that promotion season?

Go on then, based on the fact he spent the majority of his career in England as a championship level goalkeeper, what DOES give an indication to his ability? A mistake at Luton, and bringing a player down in his first game (Palace seems to stick in my mind, but could be wrong).

Coaching kids locally to me. With all the luck in the world you don’t get to play Chamionship & Premier League football if you’re a bad keeper. Bad games...maybe. Not a bad career.

He had an unbelievable game on a win at Bradford when we were in danger of going down under Stan.
Still didn't get MOM in the match report.

His own goal away against Birmingham was another hilarious moment, the goal from Paul Ince on the Turf summed him up, big giant frame but you could blow him over

Re: ARTICLE: Beast back at Bury after Crusaders release
His performance at the Turf against Reading under Coyle(I think) was one of the best goalkeeping displays i have seen from a Burnley goalkeeper. He was world class that night they battered us he made some world class saves and we ended up nicking it 1-0 thanks to the little magician that is Robbie Blake.
But on the whole i do agree he was a poor keeper.

Old Parry Grant was probably a better Keeper than Jensen; but not always in the eyes of the Manager of the time.

Re: ARTICLE: Beast back at Bury after Crusaders release
I could never really understand why we signed him in the first place. Stan must have had his pick from a large number of keepers that summer, and we ended up with a WBA reserve. Loved by many Clarets, but not even a good keeper, never mind a great one, the penalty saves aside. And yes, I was at Stamford Bridge on that famous night.

Oh yes, almost forgot this one! My mum once got his autograph on a plain white paper bag, in Oddies bakery in Padiham at lunchtime after training finished. The Beast bought a sandwich and a pie!

C'mon CT, you must have known because of various other threads this was a flier. Plenty in the keep net. The only question is will u let them go? Personally I liked Jensen, even felt sorry for him after his last game at Barnsley, because the ten in front of hie were no better

Re: ARTICLE: Beast back at Bury after Crusaders release
The goalkeeper that played in our first ever promotion to The Premier League and run to a cup semi final, played a huge part in the run in and he gets stick like this.
Shouldnt surprise though as Arfield who scored a winner at Ewood (and was generally an excellent player for us) spent the last two or three years getting stick (along with Boyd, Jones, etc).
Beast was a good keeper and extremely important for us.
Jay left us and gets his name sung for the opposition
Shackell captained us to promotion and gets booed
Seems our fans dont like us having succesful players!

No denying that in the promotion season, he played some blinders. He also had some nightmares in the very same season.
Outside of that one season, he was a distinctly average goalkeeper, although to be fair to him, it shouldn’t overshadow the part he played in that great season of promotion and cups.

Re: ARTICLE: Beast back at Bury after Crusaders release
People are saying he was a bad keeper (or even average)...
Do You realise how good you have to be to play a season at championship level? Or even a game?
He played almost 500 professional games, almost 400 of which at West Brom and Burnley in the top two divisions.
Average

That he made it to the highest level by playing in the premier league of course means that he wasn’t an average keeper, but this isn’t comparing him to an average Joe.
He’s being compared to Championship keepers, by which standards I firmly believe that he was pretty average. Move up to the top division and he was mediocre at best.
You’re not making a sensible comparison.

The cry of Beast from the terraces was a regular, so he can't have been all that bad.

That Wigan game at home was the turning point. After that we were going down with or without Coyle as it just took the wind out of our sails.

Could never understand the love in with Jensen from some of our supporters. The vast majority of his time he was poor, especially the 2009/10 season. He was to big and fat to get down in the corners and he couldn't read the game
