Re: Worst so called tourist location you have visited ?
I had a really positive experience in Lisbon, went into a strange bar though which had multicoloured glass on the outside and was pretty psychedelic on the inside. I may not have come out of there as sober as I went in.
The worst place for me, and not because there's anything inherently wrong with the place but Marrakesh was just too much for me, in terms of being accosted by everyone and even some women selling beauty stuff were grabbing my ex and trying to almost force things onto her like henna or bracelets and make her buy stuff. I guess that's how they make their money but it made me uneasy.
Morocco itself, beautiful, the city of Marrakesh, again, beautiful, amazing food and culture, except the sales people in the markets.

Pyramids an Cairo. I must have been seriously uneducated, as expected to see all sorts of hieroglyphics and hidden rooms etc, so paid some Egyptian bloke even more who sold me hook line and sinker about this will be the last year people can enter them as they are sinking, to enter them, and basically its a steep ramp down in to a couple of rooms and totally bare wall with no depictions etc, he then says, oh , they are in Luxor.

They never offered me any. Maybe I don't look like a drug user.thatdberight wrote:You can't move in Lisbon without being offered drugs by North African types. Mars what is otherwise a really nice city.

Tunisia. We went In 2014 to the hotel that had the shootings one year later. Hotel and beach and pools decent enough.
Outside was awful.

Only one answer for me, Marmaris in Turkey is the ultimate pits. Please do not go swimming in the sea, as you will be swimming in an open sewer.

Marrakesh and Cairo..
Both complete dumps and not much to do (enjoy a few cheap beers)
Won the trip on a competition but would never go again

Hang on. It's not really a tourist place anyway. Just for passing through. Having worked there often I know some good places and the air and traffic is better now the overhead railway is up and runningPstotto wrote:Bangkok

That 'Gnome World' website is brilliant. I wonder what language it was translated from.
It looks so bad I want to go.

I didn't know Mars was a city. I thought it was a planet. (Unlike Pluto.)

I stayed in a hotel in Manchester once that was named the Elton Bank. When I came back to England a year later, there was a shooting there. Hope it wasn't in my room. (The landlord also offered to keep the bar open past closing hours "for my pleasure". I declined his offer.)

Re: Worst so called tourist location you have visited ?
I found most of Paris to be quite underwhelming. It's possible to have a good time there, as long as it isn't in the places that are listed in the big touristic guides. It's better to chat with someone who lives there, or who has traveled there a lot, on the Internet before going there, because if you just go to the "big name" locations, you're likely to spend lots of money to spend hours and hours in queues, and to get your wallet stolen anyways. Meanwhile, some lesser known places such as the Musée de l'Orangerie, Musée de l'Armée, Musée de la Vie Romantique or Place Blanche are fascinating! They're not obscure either (hell, what is obscure in Paris?) but if you're rushing in to the Eiffel Tower, to the Musée du Louvre or to that one famous square on Montmartre I can't find the name of, you'll just be crushed between masses of tourists, you won't see a lot of things, and everything will be expensive ; well, at least, significantly more expensive than anywhere else in Paris, which isn't the cheapest city ever to begin with.

Re: Worst so called tourist location you have visited ?
Good to see Paris getting a mention , not that it’s not worth a visit ( it is) but the tourists are on a level even Rome can’t surpass. It’s a grubby expensive overcrowded place best visited in winter . Dublin bit of a sh1thole , The worst actually country without a doubt goes to Tunisia , while the beaches and hotels are ok outside are sh1tholes ( literally ) the hawkers and beggars are terrible , only went for a wedding and thank the Lord was only 4 nights .Food was poor too, and the local stuff inedible . Should have known the omens were bad as even at the airport there was a huge flood in the bogs with a literal “ lake of sh1t” to welcome us to Tunisia..it proved apt.

It's all subjective as one or two have said Majorca. All I can suggest is the've never seen the real island. To my wife and self the most beautiful place on earth and we return time after time.
As for tourist places I dread, in the UK Cromer must come top for me and yes Playa de Las Americas is a place I try to avoid.

Completely agree with claptrapper about London Zoo. Bored senseless. All of the animals were either on their hols or asleep. When I had a quick chat with one of the keepers and told him I would pay good money to see a scrap between a tiger and a lion or a bear and a buffalo he looked at me funny and walked away. Downright awful.

Is it true that Accrington became a tourist destination, when Dr Livingstone came looking for Stanley?

Traffic is quite reasonable compared to Manila or Jakarta. The only issue with Bangkok is there isn't much breeze.Pstotto wrote:'Nothing wrong with Bangkok'
Probably the biggest joke comment of the year. What about the traffic, for starters?
Singapore maybe boring but return flights to places which are more interesting are very cheap.

Benidorm is a **** hole although probably in part because of the Brits it attracts. The old town is actually nice.
Dublin is a grubby, dirty place with from what I saw, not much to do unless you want to hear diddly dee music and get ******. Cork is far nicer.
