Lancashire League Cricket today

Post by Dressinggown » Sun Jun 03, 2018 6:57 pm

Lowerhouse beat Norden today in a low scoring thriller at Liverpool Road.

The Home side were in trouble from the start and at one point were 81-8. The 'House rallied but were still out for 131.

Norden were cruising towards an easy victory when the game became the 'Paddy Martin Show'. I've not seen a better spell of spin bowling in many, many years.

He just ripped through the Norden batting. The visitors fell well short.

Martin's Bowling figures:

6.2 overs - 5 maidens - 7 wickets for 3 runs.

Outstanding.

Wowzers.
Well done Paddy!!

I'm guessing they're his best figures, but it's only a guess.

Rawtenstall beat Littleborough so they've already equalled last seasons total of two wins.

Sub pro Brett Pelser got 6 wickets as Littleborough were 88 all out and then got 50 not out with the bat. Rawtenstall won by 7 wickets.

The Norden professional is also a top class bowler.

As i mentioned in my other thread Paddy was outstanding. It was looking decidedly iffy for Lowerhouse as the batting never got going and the big hitters of Heap, Ocky and Franky were all out cheaply. Fortunately Finch and later on Charlie Cottam steadied the ship a little and you could sense Norden were frustrated we got away from them a bit.
Their opener hit 50 and they were looking nailed on until he was superbly stumped and then Paddy took over. They couldn't deal with him at all and he ripped through them. A great win in front of a big crowd in the sun.

East Lancs got hammered last week by Darwen. They'll be joining Rawtenstall in Division Two next season.

Be interesting to see how how many of the teams who've been in league for years make Division One next year.

Lowerhouse, Burnley, Ramsbottom, Accrington plus maybe one more? Maybe Todmorden or Church.

If there's one team you want to beat with 25 overs left, it's that one. 8-)

It will basically end up with the teams who are paying amateurs in the top division and everyone else making up the league below. On a side note I see my team Colne got another hammering today at Darwen. We seem to be reverting to type after a promising start, looks like the pro runs have dried up after a good start.

Have they dropped in one of their old pitches from the 90's? Bowling figures like that were commonplace at Lowerhouse on those days!

Indeed. I thought from where i was sat he got the length just right. It was an unpredictable wicket which helped. The delivery that got Franky out was a real snorter..really bounced up on him.
