Not only was Trippier head and shoulders above the rest but showed proper urgency no one else had. Take Kane out of it of course. He did what he does, class!

MoM. a brilliant performance from Tripp
Re: Kieran Trippier
Kieren Trippier did as I'd expect. Important player in this formation. Wasn't pleased at Ashley young using seniority over him and taking that free kick.

Re: Kieran Trippier
Southgate must have put Walker in just for the pace. Ferdinand nailed it in his assessment when he said "facing your own goal when a cross comes in was unforgivable".andyh wrote:Not sure I see the need to play walker at all. Tripps isn’t as quick but has much better delivery. As a centre back surely Cahill is the better option either the squad they have. However really they missed Ben Mee tonight. A left footer on the left of the defence would have been better than maguire who in turn would be better on the right than walker.

I would love for him to be allowed to stick some of them deep lying first time crosses over.
It seems to have been coached out of him.

Possibly his best game to date in an England shirt and he is definitely a level above where he was with us and that is no slight against Burnley. Credit to him for working hard and improving under the staff at Spurs and England.

Shows young players that if you are released from a "big" club at a tender age,if you apply yourself and learn the game in the lower leagues, there is still a chance to hit the big time. Also proves he picked the right move by joining Tottenham and waiting for his chance once Walker left. for Tripps.JohnMac wrote:Possibly his best game to date in an England shirt and he is definitely a level above where he was with us and that is no slight against Burnley. Re: Kieran Trippier
Southgate has found the perfect position for him and defo MoM.
Still has a defensive mistake in him at FB, see Woods’ goal at Wembley, but he stands out wide, chalk on heels, and when he gets it you know good things will happen.

Chris Wood was our top scorer last season, and yet many people still can't drop the s from his name,it seems to be a brain freeze when posting,a number of people have made the error.

Re: Kieran Trippier
Well I for one rated Walker ahead of Tripps. However Tripps has nailed the full back slot.
Walker on the other hand showed he isnt a centre half. And with his insistence on not being one himself may be lucky to get back in.
Overall I still think Walkers the better full back. But Tripps deserves to keep that shirt now. And we also need to pyt a ch in at ch.
We should do what the succesul italy, germany and spain sides tend to do. Play our best system. Which sometimes means leaving out good players.

Easily man of the match today. I have no idea why they didn't use him more.
Never wasted the ball. Excellent crossing. Good defending.
Keeping a Champions League finalist out of the team.

Re: Kieran Trippier
tripps was man of the match by some distance. first half he was unplayable.
Re: Kieran Trippier
He was excellent
Re: Kieran Trippier
He was immense last night. The best player on the pitch by some distance. Kane will get the plaudits and I'm not bothered about that at all but Trippier was the stand out player. I thought it said a lot that Maguire and Trippier dictated our play in the second half. It certainly doesn't reflect well on Alli, Lingard and Sterling anyway. It wasn't until Rashford and Loftus-Cheek came on that the midfield actually started to pick up the ball deeper to try and probe a bit more. Young, Alli and Sterling should be out of the side on Sunday for me; Rose, Loftus-Cheek and Rashford in.

Re: Kieran Trippier
Southgate has a real dilemma in that two of the best players in the squad are right backs. However he is not solving it by playing Walker at centre half.

Re: Kieran Trippier
I wish he'd have been able to put more crosses in, but he kept turning inside and passing back/sideways. We need to look to be giving him the space to put balls in, as that's his strongest part to his game. The reason why he doesn't get the space is because he doesn't have a full back behind him overlapping. And I agree with ClaretLoup regarding Walker. He didn't look comfortable.

Re: Kieran Trippier
Whereas Walker has the pace and control running with the ball at speed to get behind defences. A real tough one for Southgate but he seems to have invented a system so he can play Tripps and Walker.
Re: Kieran Trippier
Credit to the manager.
Trippier has the cross of Beckham.

Re: Kieran Trippier
Take nothing away from his performance he was very very good last night BUT is it just me who finds it shocking that we don't have someone better for taking free kicks. Yes have him on the kicks that are further out where you're floating it onto the head of another player but when it comes to trying to beat the keeper he's nowhere near as good as the likes of Robbie Blake or Ross Wallace, never mind David Beckham.... do England not have anyone else in that situation?
I'm so pleased to see him playing though. For me he'll always be one of our own.

Re: Kieran Trippier
Walker is fine there. Maguire is the problem. Super offensively. Driving forward. Defensively, the liability all game. Cahill in there next up. No doubt. So much better defensively. I actually think Walker would be miles better with Cahill beside him instead of Maguire constantly charging forward and leaving Walker exposed. Think Walker was in panic mode a few times. Cahill

This obsession with ball playing defenders has let to them taking to many risks on the ball that are going to cost us.
IF IN DOUBT GET IT OUT.
Re: Kieran Trippier
If Loftus-Cheek is available on loan i'd have him here in a heartbeat, fantastic player, I suspect he'll be starting for Chelsea next season though. They have some youth set-up at Chelsea, a profitable machine churning out quality young footballers at some rate.
Re: Kieran Trippier
I'm not sure that's true, Tarkowski made a few errors for us, he's still a centre back. Judging him off 1 game in a new role is a little strange and unfair. I don't even think the penalty decision was correct, the Tunisian ran into the elbow, soft.dougcollins wrote:As mentioned, Walker made 2 glaring errors to prove he isn't a centre back.
