I'll be there. Really looking forward to seeing them.
It's probably going to be the best best gig ever for me, I've seen Queen, Roger Waters The Wall in Berlin and Bowie 5 times.
I've just got a feeling this will trump the lot!

Re: Stones at Old Trafford Tuesday
Stretford Railway Club on Chester Road (5 mins walk) has a nice car park if you give them a ring they will let you use it,
Said there would be a small charge but let us use it free of charge as 5 of us called in for a few (cheap) beers

I'm jealous - wish I was there tonight, a long time since I saw the brilliant Stones live. I know it's only rock'n'roll but I like it.
Those of you going, have a great night.

Not my cup of tea at all. Mick Jagger trying to sound and act like Don Covay never really did it for me but got to take your hat off to them for their longevity.

Seen them on quite a few occasions. First time was Nelson Imp when it cost me 40p equivalent. Seen numerous stadium tours with most expensive costing me 300 times more than the first one.

Re: Stones at Old Trafford Tonight
The Rolling Stones have done hundreds of concerts of course, and the counter-culture one at Altamont Speedway Free Festival, in California nearly 50 years ago, is particularly infamous....it had an attendance of about 300,000.
There was a lot of hard drugs and drinking, and the Hell's Angels were 'assigned' security duties for the event [mistake],... one man was murdered, three others died, and bunches of hippies were beaten up by out of control rockers....it was a bad scene man
The video footage is very good quality for the time, and is worth a view.
- the man who was murdered by the Hell's Angels [Meredith Hunter] was brandishing a gun, and some eye witnesses have suggested that Hunter [off his head with methamphetamine] was out to do serious harm to Mick Jagger or one of the Stones, or somebody else on stage...this incident is on the link at about 6 minutes.
This is a pretty good version, from the event, of 'Sympathy for the Devil'.....'Under my Thumb' is also worth a look...this is just after the murder and Jagger is clearly put off his stride by events.

Re: Stones at Old Trafford last night
I've never seen the Stones as I have not been quite a big enough fan to bother (I like them but not mad about them) but one of the coolest things I've ever seen was recorded at a gig somewhere when a guy ran on stage and ran towards Keith Richard. Richard, not knowing what the hell the guy was going to do, kept playing until the perfect moment then swung his guitar off and, in one marvellous movement, crowned the guy round the head with it, rendered him immobile, then put it back on and continued playing as if nothing had happened. Security carried the guy away and the Stones were no worse for the experience. Marvellous moment.

Although musically perhaps they may have been better 50 years ago. It was made even more amazing by the sheer energy displayed at the age of (in Charlie Watts case) 77 years old! Outstanding.

Re: Stones at Old Trafford Tonight
An absolute nightmare. There’s an entertaining snip in the film where Santana drummer, Mike Shrieve, is narrating to the newly arrived Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh about how the’stewards’ had beaten up the singer from the Jefferson Airplane during a performance. They looked somewhat bemused with Lesh saying ‘you mean they’re attacking the musicians? Well that doesn’t sound right’. The next shot is of a poncho sporting Garcia turning on his heels with guitar in case and making a beeline for the helicopter before it departed.hampsteadclaret wrote:The Rolling Stones have done hundreds of concerts of course, and the counter-culture one at Altamont Speedway Free Festival, in California nearly 50 years ago, is particularly infamous....it had an attendance of about 300,000.

I've never been a big fan of theirs but had the chance to get tickets for the Rolling Stones gig at Coventry Ricoh Arena last Saturday. My son who has watched loads of live gigs by many different groups, summed it up as "The .. Best .. Show .. Ever!". Amazing to watch and listen to the energy and buzz these old men continue to display even if they look like every note could be their last note in the case of Watts and Richards.

Bit the bullet and shelled out 2200kc (About 75 quid) for a ticket for their show here on the 4th July. No small amount considering our lower salaries, but hey, they wont play here again i dare say.
No word on support for here yet, so hoping for someone decent.
