Has a Rovers fan really, honestly just called Colin Hendry World class?
He's a world class conman and wifebeater but a bang average donkey of a player.

Scotlands best at a time when they still were decent, and a Premier league winner.Braindead wrote:Has a Rovers fan really, honestly just called Colin Hendry World class?

Wages, Ego, Attitude. If he could satisfy our club's criterea in all 3 categories he would be okay for us. He won't though so he isn't.

Time will tell i guess . The manager did say that there going for quality over quantity this season these players would fit that criteria
Re: Shaquiri £12 million bid from Southampton
£12m for Shaqiri is an absolute snip these days. We won't get him at that price, they'll be too many other clubs in for him. I see Spurs are interested now as well (according to the tabloids) and they can easily afford to throw £12m at Shaqiri and just leave him on the bench. Depends whether he wants to play first team football I suppose. He'd be THE main man if he came to us. Imagine him and Defour in the same team!

We’ve had Paul Gascoigne and Ian Wright that we’re in that bracket in their earlier days, Gascoigne certainly was.
Could any of the rest of them of played for Barcelona or Real Madrid?
Some of the rest are laughable, Benni McCarthy and Craig Bellamy, do me a favour
Tugay was good but he peaked too late to be of interest to any of the big clubs.

Colin Hendry.. Prem winner and best Scotland defender of all time.
Graeme le saux.. Prem winner and possibly England's best left back since 66.. Euro 96 semi finalist.
Henning berg.. Prem winner, played in world cup, champs league winner.
Alan shearer.. Nothing needs saying.
David Batty.. Prem winner and england regular.
Damien Duff(at his peak).. Maybe debatable, but Ireland's best player.
Stephanie henchoz.. Played in world cup for swiss.
Tugay.. Uefa cup winner, outstanding Turkish international. Tell the turks he's not world class!
Andy Cole.. Nothing needs saying.
Craig Bellamy.. Debatable again, but a better player than Santa Cruz and McCarthy, who are both world class.
Roque Santa Cruz.. Champs league winner, Paraguay's star forward.
Benni McCarthy.. Champs league winner, south Africa's star forward.

You could argue that about Defour then.Graham25goals wrote:All competed at the very top, along with the very best at the point in their career while at Rovers. That is my definition of world class.
Edit- and yes shaqiuri is world class IMO.. Not a Dyche type though.
This nonsense about being/not being a Dyche type, what is it all about?
Is it this ridiculous misconception that he just goes for hard running, hard working players?
Then you are doing a great disservice to not only Defour but also the likes of Brady, Gudmundsson and Hendrick.

Funny that - because we are now spending more money than you lot have in your entire history.Graham25goals wrote:Why care about having lots of money when your board will never spend it..?
You record signing last year was Hickory Dock (or whatever he is called)....less than a million. Infact we spent more on one training pitch than that.
The difference between us and your dumb f-uck of a club is that we won't spend what we haven't got.

Re: Shaquiri £12 million bid from Southampton
World Class relates to the absolute best of the best; not just players who happened to have played at the top level for a while. There's plenty of average, good and even great players to have graced the Premier League, Champions League, World Cup etc but only very few would be classed as World Class in my opinion. Messi and Ronaldo would have improved any team on the planet over the past 10 years so those two are your World Class marker. I'm not having the likes of Benni McCarthy thrown in with those two ha ha!!
Alan Shearer was one. That's your lot off that list. The rest were good players, winners even, but not World Class. Saying David Batty is World Class is like saying Jordan Henderson is World Class and that's just laughable.
There are very few World Class players in the Premier League these days, even given all the money the big boys have. De Gea is the only one from United who could go and play anywhere else in the world currently. De Bruyne at City, absolutely. Harry Kane at Spurs. Salah at Liverpool, Hazard at Chelsea. That's pretty much your lot. All those guys could move to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus et al and walk into the team. I'm not convinced there's anyone else. Clearly your view of World Class differs greatly from mine though!

Defour is very 'reigned in' from the player he was when you signed him. I'm not sure you'll see shaquiri accepting defensive resposabity so easily.Juan Tanamera wrote:I was on about Defour being/not being a Dyche type of player.

He’s good, but nowhere near World Class
World Class Players:
Cristiano Ronaldo
Neymar
Lionel Messi
Robert Lewandowski
Zlatan Ibramhimovich
Pirlo
Kevin De Bruyne
Thierry Henry
Zidane
Luis Figo
Ronaldo
Rivaldo
Jaap Stam
Nemanja Vidic
Luka Modric
Harry Kane
That’s World Class, only really Alan Shearer fits that bracket out of your list.
The rest are either just decent top flight players or bang average players.
