£12m for Shaqiri is an absolute snip these days. We won't get him at that price, they'll be too many other clubs in for him. I see Spurs are interested now as well (according to the tabloids) and they can easily afford to throw £12m at Shaqiri and just leave him on the bench. Depends whether he wants to play first team football I suppose. He'd be THE main man if he came to us. Imagine him and Defour in the same team!

Only Andy Cole & Alan Shearer in that list you could debate were world class. Even with Cole he wasn’t world class at Blackburn.

We’ve had Paul Gascoigne and Ian Wright that we’re in that bracket in their earlier days, Gascoigne certainly was.

Could any of the rest of them of played for Barcelona or Real Madrid?

Some of the rest are laughable, Benni McCarthy and Craig Bellamy, do me a favour

Tugay was good but he peaked too late to be of interest to any of the big clubs.

Graeme le saux.. Prem winner and possibly England's best left back since 66.. Euro 96 semi finalist.

Henning berg.. Prem winner, played in world cup, champs league winner.

Alan shearer.. Nothing needs saying.

David Batty.. Prem winner and england regular.

Damien Duff(at his peak).. Maybe debatable, but Ireland's best player.

Stephanie henchoz.. Played in world cup for swiss.

Tugay.. Uefa cup winner, outstanding Turkish international. Tell the turks he's not world class!

World Class relates to the absolute best of the best; not just players who happened to have played at the top level for a while. There's plenty of average, good and even great players to have graced the Premier League, Champions League, World Cup etc but only very few would be classed as World Class in my opinion. Messi and Ronaldo would have improved any team on the planet over the past 10 years so those two are your World Class marker. I'm not having the likes of Benni McCarthy thrown in with those two ha ha!!

There are very few World Class players in the Premier League these days, even given all the money the big boys have. De Gea is the only one from United who could go and play anywhere else in the world currently. De Bruyne at City, absolutely. Harry Kane at Spurs. Salah at Liverpool, Hazard at Chelsea. That's pretty much your lot. All those guys could move to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Juventus et al and walk into the team. I'm not convinced there's anyone else. Clearly your view of World Class differs greatly from mine though!
