This guy won Bastards the Premier League and you guys choose to forget that just because he was a megaphone of a voice demanding justice for people who were killed by police incompetence and then lied about by the police and press?

Hillsborough broke him in the end and he walked away from Liverpool unable to continue as manager. How on earth he was ever able to attend all those funerals and offer so much support is beyond me. I'm not an advocate of the honours system but if there is to be one with football included then this one is fully merited.

No it doesn’t. He’s merely a footballer who has already been richly rewarded. There are far more deserving people who get ignored.

Long Overdue imho.

Nothing to add except he is a good man who was dealt some tricky stuff to deal with and actually did his best and made a difference as best he could, always with dignity. He and his wife stood tall and took on more than many would.

(He could play a bit too).

I had the pleasure of meeting Kenny at a charity golf day at Hillside GC, around 11 years ago, in aid of The Marina Dalglish Appeal.

My boss at the time, who is an avid red, had organised the day and Kenny was guest of honour. My boss made a point of ensuring I sat next to him at dinner in the evening, precisely because of my allegiances and it was the first thing he asked me when we got chatting. His response was 'wow, you must absolutely despise me' but no, I now don't, because he was the most down to earth, charming gentleman you could wish to meet.

The rest of our table was made up of Liverpool fans who were all in awe of their hero and he went round the table introducing himself to every single one of them, not taking for granted they knew who he was, and answered all their questions about the club, the manager, the players etc.

As much as I wanted him to fulfil the idea that he would be horrible, given his success with that lot, he was genuinely a lovely man.

Thoroughly deserved. A legend. Became manager at a difficult time and produced probably one of the best Liverpool teams that could have shone in Europe had it been allowing to play.

Fully deserved if for his support of the Hillsborough fans.
The truth of the whose to blame arguement will never come out.Its a combination of cowardice by South Yorkshire police in handling late arrivals and then failing to act by unlocking the gates to allow fans getting crushed onto the pitch in time.

The honour was meant for Kenny Daglish Senior of Phoenix Nights

Cant stand Liverpool or Blackburn. And hes Scottish!!! So as poster above who met him says youd automatically want to find a reason to dislike him.

But always came accros as one of those rare people who was excellent at everything he did and a decent person to boot. Was listening to interviews with Graeme Le Saux and Ian Pearce before and both spoke so highly of him.

For anyone to do what he did and attend 96 funerals they deserve recognition (not that he did it for that). Add that to his success as a player snd manager and he deserves this. In fact I already assumed he had been knighted.

An excellent player and manager and a good man.

One of the best footballers ever to play in the English League. His list of honours as a player and a manager are remarkable - and most Liverpool fans regard him as the best player in their history....which for a club with their history is some honour.

But to then top his football career with what he did for the families and his off the field work is even more amazing. He was probably knighted more for the off field stuff which is probably right but he does deserve it for his football career aswell.

It’s really unfortunate for us that he managed Blackburn but hey ho putting local rivalries to one side it’s does not blemish his career one bit - if anything it shows how brilliant he was to do it with the worst club and worst set of fans in the history of football....even George Clooney will have sha-gged the odd munter !!

He and his wife Marina have raised over £10 million for their cancer charity which has helped to fund an oncology unit in Liverpool.

One of only three men to win the top flight title with two different clubs. The there being Cloughie and Herbert Chapman.

"How on earth he was ever able to attend all those funerals and offer so much support is beyond me."

That is a fact that many people overlook. As you said, Tony, just how difficult must that have been?

Two quotes from an interview with Alan Hansen.

"Kenny Dalglish was brilliant after Hillsborough and continues to be so and it was his idea that the families should be allowed to come into the club, to speak to the players."

"When the funerals started, I went to the first one and it was hugely traumatic, but I said to Janet, my wife, that they would get better.

"But I was naive and wrong because every one was worse than the one before, each family going through emotions and pain which I could never imagine."

When I was 10, I met Kenny Dalglish on a train from London to Hastings, where he was going to play in a " Charity " match. This would have been 1974...and not too many people in England would have recognised him, but mad keen on Football as I was, I asked him for an autograph. He was great and I remember my mother saying what a nice young man he was to come all that way from Glasgow to play !!

I like his self-deprecating humour, I saw him being interviewed about his Celtic debut in the Scottish League Cup Quarter final 2nd leg, in September 1968 against Hamilton Academicals....He got 20 minutes at the end, by which time Celtic were 13-2 up on aggregate.... " Jock was nae taking too many chances with me, was he ?

Top man, fantastic player, and as for the Rovers connection, well...nobody's perfect !! ;) ;)

This highlights the danger of assuming certain readers have the intelligence and wit to recognise irony when they see it. Quite a clever comment from Turtle, I thought.

Never liked him from the days of England v Sweaty Socks. He only went too Evilwood for the brass and left when hard work was needed. Still don’t like him but it’s not just him have disliked Newcastle since 1974 and Celtic since pitch invasion

Celtic & Rangers both horrible teams to play - even for friendlies.
Let’s hope we don’t draw Rangers

Indirectly he played a big part in Rovers demise, at a charity dinner I attended up in Newcastle where Kenny and Shearer were speaking, they both agreed that their years at Blackburn were torture and they hated every minute of it, Shearer went on to say that it's his one big regret, not just in football but in life that he went to Ewood even saying he actually threw up when he first put their shirt on.
