Guardsman wearing a Turban
Guardsman wearing a Turban
Should he have to wear the bearskin hat or not ?
The idea of a uniform in the military is to look the same. In civilian life there shouldn't be an issue at all with wearing a Turban. Is this just a show of being PC compliant ? If a Jew joins should he be allowed to wear a scull cap or Trilby type hat instead or should an Arab be allowed to wear Arab headwear instead ? This is about parades not actually fighting.

You seem a bit obsessed, if you don't mind me saying so. A lovely sunny day and all you can think about is THEM.Blackrod wrote:Should he have to wear the bearskin hat or not ?

Re: Guardsman wearing a Turban
I thought the idea of a military uniform was to represent your unit according to the circumstances - hence battle uniform, dress uniform and so on.
This is clearly for ceremonial purposes so who, really, gives a toss ?

Does it affect his bayonet
Re: Guardsman wearing a Turban
Maybe he should contact Derick Trotter to develop a bearskin for him.
Something along the lines of the TCT 9( Trotters Crash Turban )

Re: Guardsman wearing a Turban
Sikhs have been wearing the turban in the British Army since before the First World War. I believe over 109,000 of them were either killed or injured in the 2 World Wars.
I guess it's fine for them to give their lives, but not to wear the turban.

just look at the uproar and riots this has caused.
Not to mention all the people calling him names and castigating him here.
Ooohhhh, this is making sooooo many people go all beetroot-faced.
Re: Guardsman wearing a Turban
Don't think anyone's called him names on here. It's divided opinion and is about whether a set uniform should have to be worn. e.g. An Orthodox Jew playing cricket in black or refusing to wear chefs whites even though the employer says that must be worn.

If they turn up and do their job they should be able to wear whatever they want

Obsessed.
Re: Guardsman wearing a Turban
Yes some could turn up trainers and dirty t shirts really. Imagine making people all wear the same thing in this day and age. It's oppressive and they can't express their individualityClaretMoffitt wrote:I agree, I mean why bother with the uniform at all?

Sikhs have been in the British Army since 1846. I'm pretty sure none of them fought to their deaths while wearing trainers and dirty t-shirts.

It's about time we moved on.
Since when did any army person do the job we respect them for wearing a red top with shiny buttons and a big black beehive on their head? or sitting on a horse for that matter.

Re: Guardsman wearing a Turban
Jews are already allowed to wear skull caps, but you don't see them because the bearskin hides it. Though I'm not sure if wearing a skull cap is a specific part of the Jewish religion anyway - isn't it just that they wear a hat? In which case a bearskin would do on its own?Blackrod wrote:Should he have to wear the bearskin hat or not ?

have you even seen the picture ? He's wearing a uniform other than a change of head wear.ClaretMoffitt wrote:I agree, I mean why bother with the uniform at all?

The question you should be asking is does his head gear change affect his ability to perform his job ? I think not

At least it'd come in handy dressing wounds in battle.
Although I do believe that a soldier does keep his first aid kit under his bearskin.
