Sarcastic nonsense.lovebeingaclaret wrote:Great idea. We pick 76 children whose parents cannot afford the fee, then we pick the next 76 for the following season, etc.
When all the children whose parents cannot afford the fee have had their day we start again. Hopefully this will guarantee Burnley FC will remain in the Premier for the next 100 years or so in order that we can get them all fit in.
Its best to sod the poor kids whose parents work overtime and have worked hard all their lives to provide a bit extra for their kids ... why should they have the special day.
We could take this further ... why should well paid multi millionaire footballers kids get to walk on the Turf after the last game of the season. Shouldn't we force them to adopt kids whose parents cannot afford the fee for at least one day ... in fact what about for all time. Obviously, once adopted they should have no rights to be a mascot, especially as their peers who still have parents who cannot afford the fee will be waiting their turn.

The web page says you'll be placed in a queue.
The reality is 'beep beep beep' cut off.
Anyone got through this morning?

Maybe an indication of just how popular the offer is.Notsosuperstevedavis wrote:The web page says you'll be placed in a queue.

I can't - for obvious reasons - give exact details, but there are teachers in local schools who take food in with them to feed kids who go in every day without breakfast.lovebeingaclaret wrote:So really there is nothing to substantiate the claim that there are kids starving in Burnley.
Now, whether or not this is due to genuine poverty, (or in some cases poor / inadequet parenting), isn't the point.
The simple fact is that there are quite a number of kids in Burnley who go very hungry. Maybe starving is a slight exaggeration because we don't allow kids to starve in Burnley.

I can believe what you say but surely if parents are not ensuring their kids are fed this is child cruelty and negligence and the teachers should be instructed to report this. What happens during the six week holiday when their are no teachers to feed them?nil_desperandum wrote:I can't - for obvious reasons - give exact details, but there are teachers in local schools who take food in with them to feed kids who go in every day without breakfast.

Teachers frequently flag up concerns about "apparently" malnourished / neglected children with their line-manager, and sometimes social services do get involved, but as you probably realise, there are incredible demands on this service, and none but the most severe get thoroughly investigated.
However, with regards to your 2nd point: Lots of evidence to suggest that children do go hungry during holidays, and that the government is aware of this.
