So....after today's games, who are England now likely to play, should they
get to the quarters?
Anyone worked it out?

Re: World cup thread
Whoever finishes FIRST in our group will probably face Brazil in the quarter final. Every incentive to finish 2nd.

Re: World cup thread
I`m hoping for a competitive but 80% pace Belgium vs England game today (tomorrow at 3am here ) ending 1-1 with England picking up 4 `pointless` bookings in the last 15 minutes to guarantee our 2nd place finish

Pretending to have been kicked up in the air. Feigning injury. These are professional sportsmen on the world stage. Grown men for f*cks sake. F*cking pathetic. Absolutely pathetic.

They knocked knees.
Re: World cup thread
They know there are dozens of cameras on them at all times, yet they persist, because they clearly are not embarrassed by their antics. If they win, then job done.

Americans have a lot of spare u's though, so they have to splice them into other words for color.

That article appears to confirm that the correct spelling has always been Colombia.Rick_Muller wrote:I recall both spellings at school - and this article sheds light on the subject too...

Re: World cup thread
A really annoying time wasting tactic is celebrating a goal, which can go on for over 2 mins. A rule should be brought in whereby a maximum amount of time is allowed following a goal being scored, say 45 seconds, and after that time the opposing side can kick off, even if the whole of the celebrating team is still doing some stupid dance move near the corner flag.

A good reason to switch to having the world cup draws being done for the KO stages after the group stages are complete.Claret wrote:This is where it all gets a bit farcical. Japan and Poland not trying and both Belgium and England wanting to lose

Must've been in the England v Belgium thread, but it's because of the timings of the next round of games and the distances involved.Imploding Turtle wrote:Where?
It wouldn't be fair if one of the teams who play today is drawn against one who played their last group game on Monday to play their R16 game on Saturday, for example.

Re: World cup thread
That's easily solved by adding a few extra days in between the group stages and the knockout stages.Tall Paul wrote:Must've been in the England v Belgium thread, but it's because of the timings of the next round of games and the distances involved.

How does that solve the problems of team A getting three more days of rest than team B?Imploding Turtle wrote:That's easily solved by adding a few extra days in between the group stages and the knockout stages.
And where are these extra days going to come from, bearing in mind we're kicking off our Europa League season less than two weeks after the World Cup ends?

I'm not saying do it for this world cup.
Re: World cup thread
Obviously, but the logistical issues will still be the same, if not worse, given there is another 16 teams in 8 year's time.Imploding Turtle wrote:I'm not saying do it for this world cup.
