Expected to go for £18 million. Makes our offer to WBA for Jay seem more than generous:

Shaqiri for 12. Rondon for 16.5. Plenty of other examples out there too!

And what is the contract situation with these players ?
How long do they have left ?
We know Rondon has a £16.5m release clause.

What wage do you think someone like Gotze will be asking for ?

And seriously why would these players who have played at Bayern Munich, Inter Milan and Stoke (!!) come to Burnley when they have clubs like Liverpool after them ?

We could waste a lot of time and effort going for these players or we could focus on trying to get players who would actually be happy to join Burnley.

Its not necessarily whether these would or should come here. Its just that the price they move for should be reflective of what less talented and older players go for.

Regardless of wages. 26 year old world cup winner Gotze at under 20m with 2 years on his contract at dortmund left is way better value than 29 year old relegated rodriguez.

English players are so overpriced but while we continue to stick to the domestic market we can't complain at the fees or refuse to pay them

Given that WBA signed Rodriguez for £12m a year ago (with 2 years left on his contract) I don't think he did that much last season to bump his price up that much.

Toni Kroos - Madrid > Bayern - £20M (a few days after winning the World Cup)
Alexis Sanchez - Barca > Arsenal - £30M
Diego Costa - Atletico > Chelsea - £31M
Cesc Fabregas - Barca > Chelsea - £27M

Callum Chambers - Soton > Arsenal - £17M
Adam Lallana - Soton > Liverpool - £25M
Danny Welbeck - Man United > Arsenal - £17M
Luke Shaw - Soton > Man United - £30M

All in the same window

Gotze has been ill for a couple of years, Myopathy I think it is.

So fitness and weight are potentially always going to be issues for him.

Yes that's cheap for a player with his ability, but he's always going to need careful management and it would be interesting to see if he would be able to play 38 games in a season in the PL plus cup games etc

Bit of a One Hit Wonder; he’s not done much since “Somebody I Used To Know”.

Avoid.

WBA asking 20m for Jay is the initial negotiation strategy they don't believe they will actually get that and we would be crazy to pay it
